Greetings!

I am building a new PC.  I have been away from Flight Sim for 3-4 years (pre Steam and pre p3d).  My new build will be for FSX Steam, but I also do Photoshop and Video editing.  I anticipate using FSX Steam, PDG 737, Orbix, Rex,  most all of the goodies.
I am guessing my system will be overkill for Flight Sim, but would like confirmation of that.
I will be overclocking the CPU.  This is my third build of a system.  As I only build system every 4 years or so, I am going high end.
I respect the contributors on AvSim and hope for some feedback.
Thanks guys!

This is my current wish list:

CPU: Intel i7-6700
MSI Graphics Card GTX 980 gaming 4g
ASUS ROG Maximus VIII HERO Motherboard
2 - Samsung 850 EVO 500GB 2.5 inch SSD
G.Skill Ripjaws 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 SDRAM
EVGA SuperNOVA 850 Watt G2 80+ Gold
Fractal Design Arc Midi R2 Mid Tower Case
Corsair Hydro Series H100i GTX CPU Cooler
Windows 10 Home 64 bit system builder OEM

Looks like a killer to me. I would only make 2 changes based on the calibre of your build and experience. First, Gskill is now doing the Trident series ddr4 sticks, and these are the enthusiast level high clock/low cas parts. Second, the gtx 980ti will give you the extra headroom of +2gb vram and more cores for not that much more money (think p3dv-whatever). EVGA is my personal pick there, the hybrid specifically. All else, awesome. Depending on your locale, the i7-6700k is in limited supply, but early adopters report good over clocking. Have fun!

Nothing is overkill for flightsim... However your selected system is about as good as you can get.

Just one thing about the ram, get as fast as you can afford, 3200mhz would be great.

Good luck with the build.

I hope thats a 6700 with a K on the end. Or you won't be overclocking.

Not sure if the non K version is available at the moment but I thought I would mention lt just in case.

Thanks for the good advice guys.  I can't find the tridents for sale anywhere.  I don't think I will go the extra $150 for the Ti version of the 980 (gotta stop somewhere).
Yes it's the k version, but it isn't available anywhere yet either.  :)

Yup Ryan, you got me.  Retired dentist.

I won't be pulling the triger on this build until the cpu is available, so probably have some more time.

Thanks for your help.
