    PMDG B737 NG

Ringo,Are you using your FS9 in full-screen mode? If so, do you have the latest drivers for your Graphics card? Do you have the latest DirectX? These all can influence the menus in FS9. If you do have all these, try uninstalling all PMDG products from your hard drive and then install the latest ones. (v1.3 for 600/700 and v1.1 for 800/900cheers,
  2. Armen,It seems to me that you have quite a bit of overclocked things ticking in your system.. I am not much of an overclocker, but a O/C'd CPU and GPU, plus XPSP2 grows a very large purple cloud in my mind about "strange crash"es. FS and MS applications in general produce strange crashes even on a full normal system. Try resetting those for once..Just my 2 cents..Cheers,
  3. Dom,Matchpoint is at your side, bad linking is on mine. Hopefully this one will give you the correct target:http://rfinder.asalink.net/Maybe you already know this one, but if not you will find flight planning a new meaning from now on if you are a PMDG simmer. This site is always updated with the latest AIRAC cycle from Richard Stefan and has many-many usable features to give you a perfect flight plan at the bottom line.Upon entering, please click on "Free Area" on the right side of the page. There are more neat stuff for planning inside the payware area, but I found the free one is just up to my needs.
  4. Most of the time planning the flight (i.e. the time frame before my plane actually leaves the gate) takes about 30 minutes. This is what I do after choosing a destination:- enter the plane at the departure airport- ActiveSky 2004 loadup for weather- www.pmfp.com for flight plans - a great online tool!!- put the flightplan into the FMC, FSNAV, AS 2004, and optionally FS9 for IFR ATC guidance- based on distance and winds calculate required fuel with PMDG fuel planner utility- start loading fuel with FSBoarding- Set up the rest of the FMC, MCP, other systems.- by the time you are finished with the before pushback checklist, it is already 30 minutes later. And you are still on the ground, but certainly ready for pushback. This is the closest I can reasonably get with FS9 and PMDG to the real procedure. It makes simulator-flying so much more realistic. On the other hand it streches a 2-hour flight to a good 4-hour show at the computer - do not try this at home if you have a wife and kids!!!! :)Cheers,
  5. Gentlemen,I am sure this is a real issue, I have faced it several times as well. The FMC however needs proper wind information to calculate descent profiles, including T/D, rate and so on. Do you always properly configure the FORECAST sub-page on the DES page regarding winds, QNH and temperature?Cheers,
  6. Hand flying this plane is just a breeze. I usually fly SID's with the A/P off, especially when the SID requires frequent inputs. Usually this phase lasts until the aircraft is at about 7-8000 feet, then I switch the A/P on to deal with the rest. Same deal with landings. Only difference is that I usually let the A/P line her up on the ILS and then I take manual control. It is a pure pleasure to fly her down to the RWY in normal weather conditions. Yet the best impression it made is that you can safely land her in critical weather conditions - head down on the PFD/ND style.A word about FSNav; I try to match reality as much as I can, so whenever I enter a route in the FMC I enter it waypoint by waypoint, or airway by airway for two reasons: to make sure everything is the way I want it to be, and to model the pre-flight tasks real pilots do as well.Cheers,
  7. Kerke,Having Adrian and Randy said the technical stuff allow me to give you an advice: Try not to compare the two products in technical matters as PIC was originally made for FS2000 which is way behind the capabilities of FS9. Another good way to get around comparisons is to try and get used to the specific needs of the newcomer. I have flown both planes as well and I certainly know that I had to make a few deals with PIC here-and-there just to make sure I USE the product the way it should be used. Now the NG should be used a whole lot differently than PIC, as they do simulate two different aeroplanes indeed. I look at it as if I had a new dog after the other one died. Both of them are dogs, may well be the same kind, but you can never say "a dog does 'X' when 'Y' happens".Just my 2 cents..Cheers,
  8. Cliff, you should bring up Start menu - Run dialog box, and then type "dxdiag" in to execute the DirectX diagnostic tool. There you have several pages, including sound. It will automatically examine your system when you click on the corresponding button.I dare to ask if this sound you are hearing is more like a distortion to the original sound, or is it like a blowing wind sound? Sure is a dumb question, but there is an outside wind sound that comes alive after PMDG installation and in the first days it used to annoy me to death.. ;)Cheers,
  9. There is a difference in thrust management between the two airplanes. On Boeings you have to push/move the levers in an analog way, symbolizing the amount of input you want to make to the EEC. Airbuses' levers only have 'detents' they are like a giant switch, which is telling the computer how to control the engines (in what mode). Now when you are descending in a 'Bus you keep the levers at the FLT detent, but when you reach your minimums, the voice reminds you to retard those levers to the landing roll position (I don't know what that is called)Cheers,
  10. Chardy,Unless you have a system that is capable to display the virtual cabin smooth enough to be enjoyable it is not necessary to have this utility. On the other hand it is a very neat tool indeed, you can use it for many more things than just walking around in the cabin. Just to mention fly by view, walking around the aircraft on the tarmac, head latency in the virtual cockpit etc. etc. I guess that PMDG has included support for this tool because many simmers own it. It is however your choice to purchase it or not. The 737NG is fully enjoyable without AC2004.Just my 2 cents..Cheers,
  11. Rob,If you are talking about an emergency, when all the pilots bail out and the always eagerly awaited question is asked on board: "Is there anyone on this plane who can land it?" Then yes, you will probably be able to put it in a landing configuration and possibly do an autoland. At least this is what I came to after asking the same question from myself. For the rest, I would wait until a real pilot responds to this. But then, in FS you can f. it up as many times as you want to. ;)Cheers,
  12. The NG represents the perfect ratio between modern conception of engineering and manual input into flight. The cabin is as quiet and comfortable as can be and the flight deck is the most inviting place in the world. It's the atmosphere that pulls me.The whole aircraft gives me the feeling that it is "good as it is".Besides that, the triple seven even tops that with a huuuge fuselage...Cheers,

    PMDG GPS

Hi there,It is completely out of my imagination why an equipment like a Garmin GPS would be needed on this sophisticated simulation of the NG?!? Going by common sense it appears to me that if it would be of any use, the real thing would certainly have it. Instead it has INS and navigational data.Someone pull the throttle back on me but I somehow have the feeling that if a person asks for an MS GPS in PMDG 737 NG than he was not quite sure what he was purchasing (if even so..)Cheers
  14. Vulcan,OFF, but the site under this link is rather a mighty good utility. Thanks for sharing with us, who did not know it existed.Cheers,
  15. 'Queen of Airbus' being the closest match to what I feel about this plane without insulting anyone there. Sure is a great piece of technology, but that's not why a man calls a flying giant "The Queen of the Skies"Cheers,

    APU Usage

Hello There,As to my knowledge, there is a restriction by Boeing, I believe it being FL180 above which altitude APU can not be operated under any circumstances.Cheers
  17. I will do that, thanks for the quick reply, Mats!
  18. Hi there,I've been busy trying to populate the V1 VR V2 speeds on the speed indicator, the manual says the values should be entered by turning the inner knob but I could not find a way to turn it to set the speeds and weight. . Can someone help me on this? Thanks,
  19. For any bug, problem, that seems to be nonsense, try deleting your fs9.cfg file for once, and run the game again. When it is loaded up, quit, and let the program rewrite a default fs9.cfg.After you reload your sim, many problems are solved concerning the 800/900 update, i.e. engine failures, unwanted crashes, systems not functioning as stated. I do not know how, but it just worked for me, no problems at all, no matter how hard I try to bring it down.Hope it helps,Cheers,
  20. Aah, there, thanks! It seems that the -900 variant is barely able to make it to KSFO from KBOS. Is it going to be able to reach there from NY? Isn't it a rather risky choice? Thanks,
  21. Hi there,We were making plans with my pilot-mate to take our brand new 737NG out for a flight from KJFK to KSFO, and I was wondering if any type of the 737NG family is capable to carry out this distance safely, while fully loaded with passengers.Any experience on this? Thanks in advance, cheers,
  22. I guess you have these labels that go over the windscreen, like the registration letters for MALEV Hungarian Airlines, that you can paint separately from the fuselage. These white lines pretty much stand where that label bmp should go, so this may be either a model or a texture aid for repainters or programmers to know. I would not be surprised if you would find some more of these if you had a single color fuselage and you would look closer.Cheers,
  23. Hi there,I've had very similar problems, no matter what trick I did, FPS was low, by no means acceptable although I have a decent system to run FS9. Then I realized that I had two sound cards, one inbuilt my motherboard and one installed in PCI slot1. I was using my MSSW joystick plugged in the PCI sound card, but had the game and the system running on the motherboard one.By uninstalling and removing the PCI sound card, and using the joystick on the MB plug, all the FPS problems were gone.Is this similar to your case?Cheers,
  24. With the extreme high quality we have seen from PMDG so far, this would be the top. I have been keen to fly a decent 777 in FS9, but can only plan for shorter routes now with the Malev 737-700 in my garage.Just pay a moment to think: You load up your sim with all the things you usually do, and there you have the following choices you can make:PMDG Beechcraft 1900PMDG 737-600/700/800/900PMDG 747 Queen of the SkiesPMDG 777And all of these with the extreme high quality known from PMDG..Gee..Cheers
  25. By flying the routine flight you fly the most, you have the experience in programming the FMC and flying the route. I'm going to fly my own routine flight, which will be LHBP-EBBR (Budapest, Hungary - Brussels, Belgium). This way I will have the chance to see all the differences in programming the FMC and completing the route, since I am already much familiar with the 600/700 method.I strongly suggest everyone else to do the same, and fly an easily accomplishable, well-practiced routine flight. This is the best way to make a comparison IMO.Can't wait, though..Cheers,
