  1. I actually used the live assist twice before i bought it. and it was very helpfulThis a.m. the tool bar in my email program is gone, the one that allows you to indicate messages as spam, not spam, friends, etc.. and last night my computer had the 'blue screen' crash meltdown. "Closing windows to save its life. :>)... check Bios, drivers, etc"... I had to unplug the computer to get it off. fun.. :>))
  2. Hello Bruce,You're way ahead of me. 'mobo'install-haven't a clue...I just uninstalled NAV and installed Bitdefender. which immediately screwed up, wouldn't let me register, crashed my computer, dumped my incoming emails in the "deleted' folder. :>( So I called that guy in India we all know so well.. :>)) spent 45 minutes on the phone. If it had been someone who could speak English it would have taken 10 minutes. (But people in China can't understand my Chinese either.)At least I could contact someone.Impossible with NAV, or DELL, or Logitech, or...It's working for the moment but the spam program seems to be more complicated than NAV.. I'll see how it is. It's probably just me, not liking to fool with computers AT ALL.. I don't like flying electrons.. just beethoven, mahler and calypso.... and sushiI did check that other thread....Cheers,
  3. Thanks Emile,I also heard it was difficult to totally uninstall Norton. Suppose I just turn everythng off?I can also go to the local computer genius...Bill
  4. Ggot a question about virus protection. When I got this Dell a year ago I also installed Norton virus protection . >((( it seems to work fine, BUT, the subscription is up in a couple weeks and I want to change products. Everyone I've spoken with says Norton is a disaster. Well, trying to contact them is impossible --Like DELL..:>)I came across a good review of-- BITDEFENDER. Ever hear of it? or does anyone have another recommendation? I also use the windows firewall which seems to work fine and Adaware..Many thanks,Bill
  5. Dynamite! Thanks Marc,Just got that gorgeous Continental Connestion Grand Bahama repaint..makes me drool. By the way, may I ask- how do I delete a livery? Tried the add/remove,looked in the Beech 1900D aircraft folder? Don't see the other livery there...Do I just delete the Installer- ? In this case- PMDGX_B1900_Air_Namibia
  6. Jeez man. DUH I should have known. the first 2-3 I wanted to look at had no previews so I assumed none did. :>)Thanks Brad,
  7. Forgot to sign with my full name--which I haven't figured out how to add to my 'signature yet...Bill Youhass
  8. Is there a way at the PMDG site to see the download liveries for the 1900D before downloading one? probably right in front of me, so obvious that I don't see it but... :-cool
  9. Randy,Got it,I thought I even looked in the aircraft folder for it...weird nite,Many thanks,
  10. I'm adding a new texture to the cfg file of an aircraft I just downloaded, but can't seem to find the cfg file that I can open w/notepad. I did this a few times several months ago, but can't figure it out now. arrgh ! :>) I even have a shortcut on my desktop just to open the cfg FS9 files. double arrgh..I open that folder, and open the aircraft folder in question. Then click on the 'state cfg file'and open it with notepad.. All it says inside is- 'engine.0 accumulated time=' I know it's in there somewhere, and I know you know where.Thank you very much,I'm running out of hair... :-) Bill
  11. Rod,The link you suggested just answered about 50 questions I didn't know how to ask...perfect.ThanksBill
  12. One mistake, of course it doesn't happen in my Twin Otter, There's no VC.. :>)just tried your suggestion.. turn off glare.. no consistant change but some I think..really depends exactly on the time, by the minute as FS changes.. I'll keep playing with it.Thanks againBill
  13. Hi Pete,That's really interesting. I just 10 seconds ago sent an e-mail to 'PMDG support about it.. ':-) The situation doesn't occur for me in the default aircraft(sorry- I still use a couple now and then), it does occur for me in the Avanti(oopps,!) but not in my Barry Blaisdell Twin Otter(that's all my add-ons)...interesting.But it also happens at dusk with no glare..humm..I'll give your suggestion a try..Many thanks,Bill
  14. Hi Jim,I haven't had this problem with the 1900D.I have a P4 3.4GHZ, 800FSB, 2GB DDR2 at 533 MHz, nVidia GeForce 6800GTO(256 M), if that helps.Although I do have a problem with no lites in the VC panel at dusk, dawn, wrong sun angle, but I'll post that again seperately.Bill
  15. Mikey,I tried this to get VC panel lights..doesn'y. Is it possible you sent this reply to the wrong post?Bill
  16. Ah ha!!! The perfect info for me.. thanks, Al...I'm into 'panels'.. very subjective, I know..At the moment, I need to stay away from the more complicated issues. like mixing and matching panels, aircraft, etc., anything where I have to go into the insides of files, computers, etc...... :>)And I see that I'm learning where my interest is , my 'path,' so to speak, into the sim world, for the moment, anyway...learning this by flying.. and asking many questions here...and getting wonderfully generous suggestions and help...Single and twin recip and turbo props...I have the PMDG 1900D (simple, eh) and the FS Avanti, and one of Barry Blaisdell;s Twin Otters, freebie that I'm actually learning to like...and some ideas for next...looking into a Bonanza, Meridian, a few others..I have a friend who has a Super Viking, the real deal.. Wow! What a plane.. Maybe someone will do one...Anyway,Many thanks againBill
  17. Many thanks Al,I've looked at their site, 'joined', asked in the forum where to see panels..but, after reading your really informative reply to my question, will probably stay away for a while.Cheers, Bill
  18. Project OPen Sky...What are these planes? There seem to be a million of them I went to their website to find photos of panels, or info...none that I could find.. didn't want to 'join' yet.. but the descriptions at Avsim files list VC so I assume they are not just AI planes..I'm sure there is a simple answer.. Dumb question, eh!! Bill:(
  19. Man, Maybe I'm too much of a novice.. but... I started a flight the other day from Kuala Lumpur with real weather.Even when I've used the FS default thunderstorm weather I've never gotten anything like this! :-cool Of course I haven't set up anything that violent either, come to think of it. I'll try it...We were being blown around as bad as the first RW flight I ever took... in a DC-3 as a matter of fact, in...1960..when the turbulence was so bad half the plane was sick, including me.Anyway..hand flying -- blown up and down 100, 200, 300 feet at a time,, blown off course.. lightning everywhere, almost constant thunder..Anybody every find this in you real weather experience?Bill
  20. Ah ha!! A flight instructor.. Just exactly what I need...I just spent 2-3 hours cruising around sim sites!Really addicting..bill
  21. Hello Bert,Many thanks taking the time for such a detailed reply. It helps even in what you don't say, just giving me more of feeling about even how to go about making selections. (I 'think' too much sometimes!)My FS email folder is crammed with info, notes to myself about planes, scenery, etc stuff that looks good, web sites, forums...... no where to stop ... :>) I do have a 3.4 or 3.8 gig P4, 2 mg of memory, nVidia 6800GTO card, etc so that's pretty dependable.I've looked again at the Meridian, and agree with you..it looks really fantastic. I also looked again at the C441 and now I remember being interested in the Bonanza from a few weeks back. Trouble is I want everything :7 PMDG also recommends starting the Avanti in 2d.. Actually that's the only way I load any aircraft as I don't even know how to load one in any other view.. Don't tell me! But I'll certainly take your advice and never change planes in any other than 2D view.So you have pointed me in a good direction and open my eyes.Thank you again,Bill
  22. Hi Bert,Thank you for your suggestion..I've seen the Flight 1 Meridan on their site a couple times. Looks interesting to me... especially as I have no glass cockpit planes yet..FSD Avanti, PMDG Beech 1900..Premier Aircraft DeHavilland DH-6 Twin Otter...I'm at the bottom of the 'dark cockpit' curve, still doing most of my flying in the 'easy modes." Then as I have time, learning the full proceedures for each plane..Do you feel the Meridian is an aircraft that I can still hop into "engines running" and get flying simply, for those times when I just want to 'fly', as well as learn the plane from the 'ground up?Thanks again. I'll go have another look..Bill
  23. Hi Vin,OOPPS! I posted my..post... then left for work. Half way to work I realized my mistake.. However, I have the same question about your Beech 1900D which I also love and fly all the time..really :>) .....although so far only in 'engines hot' mode.. Is there a way to get some light on the VC panel when it is dusk, wrong sun angle etc? or have I just missed something. Thanks again,Bill
  24. There are times when the panel in the VC in the wonderful Avanti is, to me, too dark to use, such as when the sun is at the wrong angle and the panel naturally darkens, at dawn or dusk before it comes on automatically, etc.Is there any way to get the panel lights on in the VC?I thought I had tried everything I can think of but... ?Thanks,Bill
  25. I agree with you.The steel band community is similar. People all over the country/world, know each other.. and unless the discussion turns to who makes the best steel drums }( , the support is great..Although in Trinidad it is SERIOUS business... "don't mess wit me mon!"I love it... :) Bill
