Earlier a statement was made that a STAR is assigned by the approach controller. In the US this is usually not (I won't say never) the case. It is almost always assigned by the Center controller. The altitudes that they start at is almost always above the Approach Controls Airspace. Just for some background I have been a controller for 34 years with the last 17 at Santa Barbara Tower/TRACON. Tony Megowan By the way Tom I like the picture. Did the same flight about 4 years ago. A dream come true. What a flight

This will bring back some memories. My late father was a Flight Engineer on the DC-6's, 7's, Connies (still my favorite all time airplane), and the CL-44. In fact I have several of his old flight manuals for the Connies from Slick Airways. I can't wait for this one. -
JeffThanks I will do that. The aircraft really is beautiful in person.

I wonder if someone wold be interested in this one. It is owned by Ty Warner. It is amazing what beanie babys will get you. It is based at Santa Barbara Airport in California. I am an Air Traffic Controller there and can probably get any pictures needed.http://jetphotos.net/showphotos.php?regsearch=N888TY

Hello All We use it mostly to reidentify an aircraft we have lost radar contact of or to identify an aircraft if some other form of radar identification cannot be used.

Hello All These are indeed military fixes. Every now and then we do get a civilian (at least i think it is civilian) L1011 launching rockets. KVBG is an airport in our airspace so I work it all the time. Tony Megowan ATCS Santa Barbara ATCT/Tracon

JD Got the file you sent me. I ended up doing a full reinstall of Vista and all is right with the world. If you ever have any questions on Terminal Procedures I am a controller (both Tower and Tracon) at Santa Barbara Tower/TRACON in California. I would be happy to assist with any questions.
