  1. Couldn't re-install FSX from the original DVDs but did get it to work by copying the Gauges directory from my laptop to the desktop machine, and the gauges now appear fine. Presume that the Gauges directory and files within had somehow gotten corrupted. More for those interested: Dual boot MacPro 1,1 (2006) when upgraded (??) from Win 7 to Win 10 loses ability to read and access its optical drive (only in Windows). Can only read optical drive if booted with a bootable disk in the drive and when you try to swap it for the FSX disk you can't close the tray from the Apple keyboard drive key and the drive is not usable. I networked the laptop (Macbook Pro) dual boot to MacPro and was able to read FSX disks in its optical drive, but couldn't do a repair to FSX because the FSX install setup couldn't find the .msi installer, for some unknown weird reason, because it was right where it was supposed to be, on the install disk on the laptop. Moral of the story: should never have upgraded to Win 10. It all worked fine in Win 7. Ah, progess.
  2. Thanks for the responses. I never did get it to work with the 7300. However, I did bake the ATI HD5700 in the oven to reflow the circuit board and chip solder connections and it now works. Reinstalled it, and low and behold it has the same issues with missing gauges, so it must not be an issue with the VRAM. I'm going to copy my current FSX installation to a backup drive and then reinstalling FSX to see if a fresh install makes a difference. If so then I'll move the old stuff back over and see what happens. Thanks for your help.
  3. Hello all, After a bit of forum searching with no results I'm posting this question. Odd display issue here. The ATI 5570 graphics card (1 gb vram) in my computer failed and until I either do an oven-based reflow on it or buy a replacement I installed the machine's original Geforce 7300 GT (256 mb vram) back into the computer. But now when I try to run FSX, I get no gauges on any aircraft and the gauge locations on the panels (2d & 3d) are transparent. I also reset all the display settings to their minimums, no change. The 7300 GT worked ok in FSX years ago in both XP & Win7 and seems to work ok in most other applications (except that on Flightradar24 I can no longer see anything in 3d mode). Any ideas what the problem is with the gauges now? Machine is dual boot MacPro 1,1 (bootcamp) running Windows 10 Pro 32 bit. 15 GB memory. Win10 is running DirectX 12. Thanks for any help.
  4. I posted this yesterday to the support forum over at QW and got a response (reload the saved flight). Tried it and it didn't work, tried some other things as well (saving while taxiing instead of while stopped, etc.) also to no avail. I am posting the question here in the hope that there is a larger user base here who may have been through it. I still have some additional ideas to try; uninstalling FSDT KLAX V2 & using FSX default KLAX is one of them. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Flight DL1404 headed from KLAX to KSLC. At the hold short line for RW25R the ground cart is somehow re-attached to the aircraft, even though I disconnected it before pushback. Images listed below are not posted, since that requires a third-party host, but the sequence indicates the problem. Image 1 Completed pushback at gate B 53 after cold & dark start, using external (cart) power & then APU. Notice no cart connected. Saved flight here. Image 2 Hold short at RW25R. Saved flight here. Quit flight. Then loaded flight, panel missing the FMC information, so I did the ATC route uplink again, and set the SID. But huh??? the ground cart is somehow re-connected. Can't disconnect it from the QW pull down menu, which shows it as disconnected. Image 3 In the air after take-off from RW25R. Flying fine even with the cart. Does the cart affect the aerodynamics of the aircraft? Doesn't seem to, although I would expect it. Image 4 Still flying OK but sure looks weird. QW pull down menu still shows cart disconnected (red), but it most certainly is not. Those connecting cables must be really stout. Image 5 Over Long Beach on SID OSHNN. Nice view except for the cart, still dangling.

  6. I finally figured this out. Turn light bloom off in the display settings. Also occurs with several other converted FS9 aircraft (including SR71A). Problem even worse with Sp2.
  7. Thanks for the response. I usually fly in full-screen mode and was looking for a way to do it within that mode, but after some head scratching I figured out that the only way to do it was in "windowed" mode. Thanks again.
  8. I've got a laptop (MacBook Pro) running boot camp XP connected to a flat screen HDTV via the Mac's mini-display port and a HDMI adapter. I can run FSX Sp2 cloned on both screens but haven't been able to run different FSX windows on each (for instance, spot view on the HDTV and 2D cockpit on the laptop). When I change the Nvidia setup from cloned to non-cloned, all I get on the HDTV is the blank desktop wallpaper and icons. I understand how to run a dual monitor setup from a desktop computer with a dedicated graphics card with 2 outputs (VGA & DVI) but I'm not sure how to get to separate signals out with the mini-display port.I searched the fora and found no topics dealing exactly with the specifics of getting 2 different signals out of a mini-display port.Any ideas? Is there a topic and posts I've missed in my search? Thanks.

    FS and Mac

The Macs works fine. I have a Mac Pro and a Macbook Pro and run both dual boot (Apple's bootcamp-which comes standard with the Macs) with both FSX and FS9. You have to buy XP, Vista or Win7 separately. I'd recommend a USB mouse with the laptop instead of its trackpad, which can be a little flaky in XP. I can suggest a Mac reseller who will install XP OEM with your purchase if you PM me.
  11. After watching the Thunderbirds at the Dayton Air Show recently, I downloaded and installed Bob Chicilo's FSX update of the Kirk Olsson F-16. What a sweet aircraft! Works great after some cockpit and panel tweaking except for one thing. Whenever I encounter a fog or fog-like texture (like a ground haze at an airport) the entire screen goes to white, except for certain artifacts (like spray from wheels on wet pavement), in all views but the regular cockpit view--see attached jpeg. If I change the weather to clear skies, no problems. The condition seems to prevail in more than one incarnation of the aircraft, including the Tbird and the RDAF E-174 (clean) with the drogue chute and its default panel. When I switch to a different aircraft (the default FSX Baron 58) in the same saved flight, with the weather set to something other than clear skies, no problem; no white screens, all foggy like it should be. Any others have the same problem? Any ideas out there of a way to get it to work with weather other than clear--like a setting in the aircraft.cfg? I've tried a variety of different settings, including turning off cockpit tooltips and flight tips and nothing seems to work except for the clear weather fix. Thanks for any help.
  12. I downloaded and installed kbwi2k5v2.zip which is a great rendering of KBWI. Are the jetways operational? Are they controlled with the NAV1 radio? If so, which frequency? I did a search on this in the fora. Found no answer, and see nothing in the readme either. Thanks.
  13. Thanks for the help. I tried exactly what you did, and it seemed to work in one session, but then when I started a new session, the GPS window wouldn't display at all, so I decided I must have done something wrong. I guess I was on the right track after all. Thanks again.
  14. I've downloaded Ken Mitchell's add-in panel to the IFDG Airbus A320 and would like to change the keyboard command for the GPS window back to shift-3 (from shift-5) like it is for all the FS9 default aircraft. This means I will also have to change the bottom panel keyboard command from shift-3 to shift-5. Is there a way to do this? Thanks.
  15. I have searched the fora and can't find this directly addressed, although I'm sure I'm not the first to ask.I have realism set to "detect crashes" but have also tried with this setting disabled. When the aircraft crashes, the sim automatically restarts at the beginning point of the flight or the last saved flight point. Is there a way to disable the automatic restart? I'd also like to do this in FSX.Thanks.
  16. I've downloaded the Saint Maarten scenery pack (princess_juliana_intl_scenery.zip) for FSX & installed it and it's OK except that the panel and box trucks at the airport have no texture on them. They're just black shapes. I've checked the install locations & everything is where it's supposed to be, based on the readme file. Any ideas what's wrong? Thanks.
  17. Searched awhile & couldn't find this subject, so I'll ask.I'd like for my FS9 flight to continue (windowed) while I read the LVLD767 manual in a PDF window. Whenever I try this, the FS9 program pauses if it doesn't have focus. Any way around this? Thanks.
  18. Thanks for the one real response. I've checked the METARs and the FAA webcam site and found the following; my local time is 0217 UTC, the latest NOAA METAR for Fort Yukon (PAFY or PFYU) at http://weather.noaa.gov/weather/current/PFYU.html is time-stamped 0156 and the one before that was stamped 0136. At the FAA webcam site at http://akweathercams.faa.gov/viewsite.php the latest pictures (one each for camera orientation at N, NE, S, & W have time stamps of 01:47:58, 01:50:01, 01:54:10 and 01:52:06 respectively. Those pictures are updated about every fifteen minutes as indicated in the loops for each of the views. I can certainly check the METAR site and the FAA webcams and adjust the weather accordingly in FSX (and have done so in the past), but the question was really about why there is a discrepancy between Jeppesen and the other information, since I would surmise that Jeppesen is getting their information from the METARs. In reading some NTSB reports on aircraft incidents/accidents I noticed that on occasion the Jeppesen airport information with regard to construction on taxiways, etc. was not current (in particular in connection with a fatal Comair CRJ-200 crash on RW26 at Lexington, KY in August, 2006) so maybe that also applies to the weather data from them. Thanks again.
  19. I've been doing some flying in Alaska and noticed that the real-time weather that FSX donwloads from Jeppesen doesn't match what the real weather is in Alaska at the specific locations I'm flying, which I can determine from the NOAA/NWS Metar reports and the FAA's Alaska webcams. Anyone know what the problem is with FSX/Jeppesen? Thanks.tnbriggs
  20. Downloaded the registry utility (http://tweakfs.com/download/fsx_reg_utility.zip), ran it and it fixed the problem. I've had a couple of crashes w/SP2 (forced cold reboots to resolve) but nothing insurmountable. Thanks.tnbriggs
  21. I've downloaded the FSX SP2 patch and tried to install. I then get the "Microsoft Flight Simulator X Service Pack 2 requires the English version of Flight Simulator X." error. Edit the registry as suggested in Bob Arnson's blog/RSS (http://www.joyofsetup.com/2007/12/16/flight-simulator-x-service-pack-2-available-and-how-to-work-around-common-problems/), but I have no entry in HKEY_Local_Machinesoftwaremicrosoftmicrosoft gamesFlight Simulator10.0. Instead it exists in HKEY_CURRENT_USERsoftwaremicrosoftmicrosoft gamesFlight Simulator10.0 and so I've edited it there per his instructions. However, the SP2 install still gives the "english version" error message. I guess I could go the uninstall-reinstall route for the RTM, SP1 & SP2 but I'd rather not. Any ideas? Thanks.tnbriggs
  22. I've downloaded and installed Bob Chicilo's 2 updates to the old FS9 Alphasim SR71A Blackbird (freeware) but when I try to fly the a/c it crashes FS9 to a MS 'call home' prompt. The original Alphasim a/c (from the Alphasim downloads site) runs fine (except it has no functioning cockpit or panel) so I think the problem must be with the update files from Chicilo. Some of the update files are xml files and may really be for FSX instead of FS9, but I'm not sure. Anyone else have this problem? Thanks.tnbriggs
  23. I downloaded the freeware version of this from the Alphasim site. It has no instrument panel in the cockpit view and the VC doesn't have any switches or gauges that function. Is there a instrument panel & gauges available somewhere that will work with it? What's the process for getting the instrument panel into the cockpit view? Thanks.tnbriggs
  24. I've been trying to land the POSKY 767 at PHOG rw02 and can't seem to get it on the beam. I'm flying a GPS approach (not ILS) from CAMPS and the plane never aligns with the runway soon enough. It's usually off to the west and not even parallel to the RW
  25. Thanks to all. I never could get the downloaded flight plans from Simroutes to load properly in FS9 so I ending up bringing the route list from Flightaware into Super Flight Planner and making the route from there; and it seemed to go OK
