Any good freeware/payware AFB sceneries?
Sheppard AFB and Mountain Home AFB are available elsewhere. There is a compatibility patch by Holger Sandman for Mountain Home at the Orbx site. This is in the Central Rocky Mountains section of Orbx.Jim

Are you a aircraft person or scenery person?
Scenery. Mostly military. Mostly home made. Also your occasional Zeppelin. Like me some FA-18, C-130, T-38, A-10, T-6a Texan II, Diamond DA 20.Jim

Pacific scenario with GUAM as a hub.
Sounds good. All I'll have to do then is seperate out the road types and compile.Jim

Pacific scenario with GUAM as a hub.
Count me in Dean. I did my first tour as a Naval Officer onboard USS Proteus when she was at Polaris Point. Enjoyed the land, people, culture...as a matter of fact, there's not much I didn't like about Guam.If you can get the roads data into a kml, I can produce roads.Jim

What is your test airfield?
Errr... NAS Pensacola. With NAS Pensacola, Saufley Field, Whiting Field, and Outlying Field 8A, in the same general vicinity, there's plenty of things to do. With NAS Jacksonville reasonably close, you can do point-to point seaplane/amphibious testing and add in NAS Meridian for a decent cross-country triangle.Jim

Lights...a new progam...?
Yes Stan, that is correct. Object libraries are used to store 3D models that can be used wherever you want to put them provided you have an object placement program. They will generally be located in the "Scenery Design" section of the Avsim library. Generally, if you are interested in improving an airport, most new users will seek out a placement program which will allow them to place most Microsoft default objects wherever they feel the need. Then comes the use of object libraries by others (like me), then maybe an airport modification program like ADE or FS Planner, then some ground/terrain mods with SBuilder X, then making your own custom objects. Look at the beginning scenery design thread that is pinned to the top. It's a slippery slope...welcome aboard!Jim

Lights...a new progam...?
No problem. I believe we need other freeware folks to do the same. In FS8 and 9 we used to be able to find freeware Macro's for just about anything.Jim

Lights...a new progam...?
Lights ! is a set of library object lights that can be used in FSX by means of an object placer program. The files in the "Scenery" folder go in your FSX addon sceneryscenery folder, and the files in the "Texture" folder go in your FSX Addon Scenerytexture folder. The objects are then placed into the desired locations with the placement program.Jim

What do you look for in a good GA airport?
It really depends on who you're making the airports for. For a person who's not familiar with the airport and most who only occasionally frequent the airport, a half dozen of the most recognizable buildings, filled in with generics would be more than adequate. For a more discerning clientelle, do as much as you can without getting bored or frustrated and canning the project.I rarely go beyond the flightlines with anything custom unless it's a wow factor or such an integral part of the local landscape that it really needs to be there.Even though it looks really good, I don't generally go in for custom tarmac and runway textures. They are an FS8 carryover and I believe it would be another of those things that one would have to redo when FSvNext comes out. I do believe in using photoreal ground textures when available, but unless the resolution is better than 1m/pixel, to me, it just looks more jagged and washed out the closer you get.I like to have one or two "Wow's" in each scenery whether it's a hanger that is fully functional or something else of comparable detail.Just my two cents.Jim DhaenensKNTUKNIPKNPAKPWACGAS(Floyd Bennett)...and othersFOR FSX

Red Structures - O"Hare?
They look to be the standard FSX blast fence....red and white are the proper colors.Jim

Static Aircraft Scenery
I tried many things, but what finally worked was renaming all aircraft parts, and getting rid of the reflective texture tags, then exporting it as an ".x" file, then doing amanual compile with MAKEMDL....a real pain, but do-able.Jim

Some thoughts on the new design tools from Abacus...
I'm one of those folks that never really got into Gmax and purchased FSDS V2.X and now 3.0. I was looking at EZ Scenery as a simple method of building up the areas around my airports with buildings and other objects, but haven't purchased it for the reasons I've seen here: If you want anyone else to be able to use your scenery, they have to have the libraries installed. I've used Runway 12 before as well, and have the same problem with that.Since FSDS 3.0 came out, I've been able to export my objects as .mdl objects and place them with SceneGenX with relative ease. I use the building creation tool in SGX or FS9 native library objects to populate the outlying areas of the airport. The FS9 .mdl and associated placement xml should be the "New" .api in my opinion. The .mdl simply becomes part of the airport.bgl generated during the compilation process. Jim Dhaenens
