Why I am not happy with MS and Flight
frankla replied to frankla's topic in Microsoft FLIGHT Archive
Arwen and NewthogI know MS is not making Flight for us and that makes what they have done with Flight even more wrong. People must identify with a product. I have tried to get some of my nephews and younger friends interested in flight simulation . The first thing they ask is to fly the F18 (from acceleration) or a passenger jet. They identify with those planes either because they have flown on one, or have seen it in a new modern movie. An average non enthusiast will not identify with nostalgic planes like Stearman and conventional geared planes who they ridicule as puddle jumpers. That is why this product as is introduced will not work on masses they want to attract. Unless they come (very soon) with DLC that allows big iron flight (long range), Flight will sputter. To me not seeing that is bizzare. But hey, some one may call me stupid for exactly saying that. :)P.S. I am GA pilot and fly a piper archer in real life, but when I check the screen shots on AVSIM screen shot forum, they are, by far, mostly of passenger jets. -
I am not really sure why, but stupidity has always frustrated me. Okay I was trying to preserve some dignity; I should have said ' it angers me'. I know it is a flaw with me, not with those I perceive to be stupid. But I think I might not be alone with this flaw. Watching what MS is doing with Flight is like watching a car wreck about to happen. I would yell at the driver and tell him he is going on the wrong direction on the freeway, but he refuses to listen. After several attempt at trying to tell him to change course, my evil self tells him " Okay fine..You should get what you deserve" (how many of you are wishing for failure of Flight?). I have realized that my anger and frustration is not about another person's stupidity, but about my inability to affect the stupidity and thus the result. Frank

My take on MS Flight... and the future of simming
frankla replied to Francois_Dumas's topic in Microsoft FLIGHT Archive
I believe the new structure allows for a world simulator not just flight. -
Second Interview with Joshua Howard... sigh...
frankla replied to dighost's topic in Microsoft FLIGHT Archive
None of us flew out of all 25000 airports. But most of us want to fly from the airport in our home town. In that aspect, 25000 was brilliant. -

He said world coverage and 23000 is a crazy idea. What else do you need to know to agree he is not planning on it. -
The guy at MS said, today, that to have 23000 airport and world coverage is crazy. I take that to mean that there is no intention of creating the world. So to me it is clear that it will never become what FSX was.

Arwen,How do you feel about Flight now that it is confirmed that it will never have the whole world? -
Is this guy for real (Howard) leading ms flight

why couldn't they give us the vanilla as base product and then sell us chocolate as add ons? -
Most non enthusiast I know are interested in heavy iron
frankla replied to frankla's topic in Microsoft FLIGHT Archive
I agree, but many people would still think a Pilatus Turbo Prop is a puddle jumper. BTW..what are the speeds of those planes? -
d) MS can't do it all itself
-
I am a GA pilot. However, all non enthusiast people that I know of are interested in large jet aircraft. To them flying a Cessna is slow, boring and dinky. Just go to commercial airports and see how many people are spotting the commercial jets getting excited at the roar of these jets. I still scratch my head at what MS was thinking when they decided to get average Joe interested in Flight with a Maul.

+1 I won't invest until I know what the plans for it are

What does it even mean that it doesn't have a cockpit?

I agree...what kind of incentive is there to buy more points upfront?

Available From 29th Feb
frankla replied to Christopher A. Barbas's topic in Microsoft FLIGHT Archive
Most flight enthusiasts are ready to go prep3rd which is 10 bucks a month for the sim engine. I don't think they only spent 70 dollars . People have to realize it cost a lot more to develop games. Developing a flight simulator is even riskier because the improvements will be nominal for each release of the genre. How many people would buy a new flight simulator because it had slopping runways? Not many. So how is Microsoft going to continue the genre without losing money? Flight's DLC marketing model is the only way for all of us to have a continuous development of our hobby. -
It is generally agreed that MS will not introduce Flight with an empty Flight store. Assuming that MS will have expansion packs at Flight's release time, how useful would Beta testing be if it did not include testing the expansion packs? Is the beta only on just the free demo or more?

Are you sure Flight will never "Grow up?"
frankla replied to Rush1169's topic in Microsoft FLIGHT Archive
:( They haven't announced it yet. But look at the fire storm of publicity it has caused. Perhaps a great marketing ploy? After all if they deliver what we want after all this controversy, they would have huge number of loving fans! When you buy a car you own it. A software does not change ownership because what you buy is a license, not the software itself. MS will always own it. As owners of your hypothetical car they can demand that you service it the way they want it. Its the same concept as a lease, When I leased a car many years ago, they required that I do not modify it or use aftermarket parts in repairs. The only aftermarket parts they accepted in "their" car were break pads, filters, windshield wipers and tires. -
