  1. Hello Jim Well I followed the PMDG link and uninstalled/re-installed FSX and don't quote me on this as I haven't done extensive testing but there was a definite improvement. So thanks for all your help it's very much appreciated. I shall stick with it because there are things in FSX I couldn't do with FS9 which have made such a significant difference. Kind regards Alan
  2. Hi all I'm new to FSX (just migrated after years with FS9), I can't work out how to save changes, for example un ticking the 'flying tips' option it always 're-ticks itself. Other settings like graphics or traffic and frame rate all seem to default once I've finished a flight even though I have saved the settings. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you Regards Alan W
  3. Hi Jim Thank you very much for your detailed explanation. Unfortunately I'm not much the wiser due to my lack of knowledge and confidence interfering with the norm certainly where MSFS is concerned. Nevertheless I'll read your post a few times more-it might sink in. I've installed FSX Deluxe straight out of the box, I've added one UK2000scenery airport, FSUIPC and Prosim Jetstream aircraft for FSX. With regard to my PC, I specifically ordered one that would cope with FS9 and it does very well but FSX seems hopeless. All FSX settings are set at default. I've attached my PC specs. Would you mind having a look and telling me what you think? Intel core i7-(four core,10MB cache) 3.6 GHZ Memory 16384 (4x4 GB) 1600Hz DDR3 Quad channel Hard drive 2TB RAID 0 (2 x 1TB, SATA 6Gb/s,7200RPM,32MB Cache) Graphics 2GB GDDR5 Nvidea GTX680 Much appreciated Regards Alan
  4. I think I can manage that but will have to wait til tomorrow. What will it prove? Thanks Alan
  5. Thanks but I wouldn't know where to start with that one. What exactly is it? Sorry not that PC literate Regards Alan
  6. Hello all I have just migrated to FSX from FS9 after many years. I have to say the transition has been painful. I'd read lots about FSX being slow and hungry for power and it's not a lie! However controlling the aircraft with my homemade control column is exceptionally good. I'm using Prosim and their Jetstream 737-800 aircraft and it's an excellent combination. I'm going to persevere but first I am experiencing this CTD which occurs usually when I click on one of the options on the menu at the top of the screen. I receive the "fatal error' message which I have learned very quickly is common but also there appears to be many resolutions to this problem. I'm wondering if anyone can share a secret or two on how I might cure this problem or indeed where to find and use some kind of logging? Thank you in advance for your advice Regards Alan W
  7. Hi Could that be SP3 (service pack 3) Not sure just a thought hope it helps. Regards Alan W
  8. Thanks to a fellow simmer I've just found I was directed to download and install REX essential which is destined for FSX. I'm using FS9 but I don't know what if anything I can do to get this working again other than a re-install which I really want to avoid. Installing REXEssential is all that I have done before this issue arrived. If anyone can help that would make me very happy!! Thanks all Alan W
  9. No desperately trying to avoid a re-install. Others have had the same issue and they resolved it without re-installing. It's just their OS was XP and mine's 7. There is a patch for this for XP but not for Windows 7 Cheers Alan W
  10. Hi all I find myself with this issue after re-installing the most recent version of REXEssential + overdrive. The FS9 splash screen appears and the Prosim modules start but that's it! I have to open the task manager to shut down the splash screen. I read in one post about other programmes active in task manager related to FS9 and there are several listed and I believe this is the cause of this problem. I've tried a system restore and deleted FS9cfg but this makes no difference. I understand there is a patch but this is only for Windows XP. I'm using FS9, Windows 7, Prosim and their Jetstream model 737-800. I'd be grateful for any help as It has just taken about 8 months to get my sim up and running and it was running really smoothly after a PC change and migrating to Prosim and months and months of new additional wiring so I'm pretty frustrated that this has happened! Thank you all in advance Alan W
  11. This is related to the screen resolution. Reduce the size of the FMC pop up window and that will resolve it. Regards Alan W
  12. Hello all I'm considering migrating to FSX from FS9 and am looking into whether it's worth it and which version to buy-standard,deluxe or gold etc etc. Any feedback would be welcome Thank you Alan W
  13. Hi I have a boxed copy of the PMDG 737NG 800/900 for FS9 complete with instructions. You can have this free just pay for the postage. Let me know if you would like to send it. Cheers Alan
  14. Hello all My 737 800/900 has developed an issue where the throttle levers advance when the engines are not running. FS always, since last week following a memory card upgrade crashes when PMDG is loaded, usually anywhere between 2-4 minutes of being loaded. I've tried default aircraft and it doesn't crash. The only issue I can see is the levers may somehow be causing this to happen Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you ALW
  15. Hello all I've updated my GeForce 8800GTX card and now the PC crashes when FS is running. Normally just after take off. I haven't ventured off my normal routine i.e start up taxi etc. The previous version was 285.58 and the newer version is 306.81 I've also updated FSUIPC to 3.999w Two days previous I upgraded the memory from 2GB to 4GB (acceptable) according to Dell but didn't experience any issues with this. I have a Dell XPS 710 Quad Core. If anybody has any ideas what may be causing this CTD or can point me in the right direction I'd be very grateful. Thanks in advance Al W
  16. Hi Don't know if this what you're looking for but have you saved your flight plans into the FMC using the FMC on screen 'SAVE' prompt? I think it's LSK 3 or 4 left?
  17. http://www.precisionmanuals.com/pages/downloads/paintkits.html Hi Is this any good to you?
  18. Hi This sounds like a conflict between assignments. Check the assignment in PMDG for the A/T and then check the assignment in Fs2Crew, I think you'll find they are sharing the same assignment. Uncheck the option in Fs2Crew and see if that works. Cheers Alan
  19. Hi A/T should be selected prior to entering the runway. With regard to TOGA, advance the throttles to around 40% N1, then press TOGA. Prior to this have you selected the flaps setting and confirmed the V speeds in the FMC? Also make sure you have entered V2 in the IAS/MACH window on the MCP. I hope this helps a little? Good luck Alan
  20. Hi Martin Not sure about your specific issue but I never turn off the autobrakes until either I've vacated the runway or on stand. I always thought the brakes disengaged automatically at 80kts when reverse thrust is disengaged and then manually brake from then. Might not be that useful but it was just a thought!! Cheers Alan W
  21. if you fly the SID as published then you will need to set the MCP to the initial altitude for example 4000ft and once you've reached that point set the next altitude for example 5000ft and then press VNAV after each change of altitude assuming you have the SID entered into the FMC. When I descend I start the descent 10nm before TD at a rate of 1600ft using LVL CHG or V/S. You will notice on the Navigation display a green arc which will settle at the point the aircraft will level off. Excellent instrument to work with. For speed management if you use VNAV the aircraft will fly using the FMC so no adjustment necessary on your part. Of course you will need to take over when landing. Arm the autothrottle when entering the runway Hope that helps a bit alan
  22. Hello Pete Unable CRZ means the aircraft can't achieve the next altitude because not enough distance is being allowed to achieve this. For example you are at FL10000 and your next assigned FL is 15000ft but with only say 1nm to achieve this. I would check your flight plan and route first then once entered into the FMC check again the distances between the waypoints etc. Set up the FMC with your route and make sure you are entering all the details of the flight on every page. Make sure you have the correct ALT set in the MCP. Once airborne above 400ft engage VNAV then A/P and it will do the rest for you. Shout if you need anymore help. I'm not a pilot but I used to have this all the time when I first started out Alan I meant engage VNAV
  23. Hello Pete Can you be a bit more specific about what you are trying to achieve? I'll see if I can help Alan
