  1. I'd rather they used up disk space instead of causing memory leaks. You can always get a bigger drive if you want more space. Nice rivet detail on the 'copter'. Thanks again for the texture placement info.Kim
  2. Thanks for the good information. I'll be checking by setup of FS9 to look for any misplaced texture files. By the way, which payware aircraft did you find the texture misplacement with John?Kim
  3. I'm afraid my older computer would grind to a halt or at least display a slide show running triple monitors and FS9. However, if I ever get a faster system and use a triple monitor setup (would be nice), your color suggestions make sense.Kim
  4. Does your joystick have a button assigned to that function that you don't know about and it's sending spurious button presses? Weird! How do you know it's your joystick disconnecting the APP button?Kim
  5. I've really been looking forward for this one and by appearances, worth the wait. Now I'm going to be on the lookout for the release of the DVD after seeing some of it. NICE! :-kewl Kim
  6. I agree with Bill, you are going much too fast for a landing approach, but still, that shouldn't stop the AP from locking in on the glideslope as long as you're below it when you try to capture it. I still don't see any command buttons on the AP mode panel lighted, at least from your screenshot, which indicates the AP was not engaged at the time. Does the APP button even light up when you press it during the approach? Maybe you can get better screenshot at the moment the AP misses the approach.Kim
  7. Terry,I managed to get some available time today to install the 0802A Procedures and now my PMDG 747 FMC is very happy, at least with KSEA so far. I did keep my original 9 Dragons VHHX.txt version however. I'll give the 747 a workout this weekend. I bow to your greatness. Thanks for the temporary link.Kim
  8. I run in full screen mode for flying, so I don't see the taskbar anyway. Since I have an Nvidia graphics card, I usually switch to windowed mode to use the main FS start menu due to the aircraft preview screen going black problem in full screen mode. I'm going to break down and get Nhancer to solve the problem though.I like your color suggestions for the MS blue title bars, Microsoft has no color taste, kind of cartoonish. However, I might use the color scheme from the PMDG 737, dark gray with light blue font. Green is a little jarring, even in the 747 FMC. I suppose that's why Boeing used the green color font for the 747 FMC, easy to see.Kim
  9. I just put version 1.2 on as well, my AP followed the approach just fine the other day. I notice that your AP is not engaged in your first JPG and you have ALT HOLD set. Did you disengage it before you took the screenshot? One warning about a problem I ran into. PMDG updated the AIRAC data to version 0802 with this update, but not the SIDSTARS. That may be causing you a problem. Try manually entering the ILS frequency in the FMC and see if the approach works then.Kim
  10. I always hide the thing. It just looks like a wart across the top of the screen when you're flying anyway. It's easy to just hit the ALT key when I want to use it.Kim
  11. I haven't heard of this site either, but from what I've read here, I'll be sure to avoid it like the plague from now on. All the freeware developers should be respected for the hard work they do, not stolen from for somebody else's gain.Kim
  12. Terry,Thanks for helping me out here. Yes, I did want the procedures for the PMDG aircraft. It was late in the evening when I posted the question and my brain was tired and starting to go to sleep. At least my signature gave you a clue. I just downloaded it now, but I won't be able to install it and check for file corruption or some other gremlin until this Friday the 25th of July. Hopefully, my FMC in the Queen will be happy now at KSEA. I already have the VHHX 9 Dragons SIDSTARS in my original folder. Thankfully I had the foresight to make a copy of it this time.I really appreciate your time in giving me this version. I updated my PMDG 747 Queen to version 1.2 and forgot that PMDG was going to update the AIRAC cycle to 0802 or I would have saved a copy of the original FMCWP folder. I really don't want to pay for the new AIRAC cycles until I upgrade to FSX in the future, but I might have to break down and do it to keep my FMC database current if I ever decide to join a virtual airline. Thanks for all your hard work in maintaining the Terminal Procedures database.Kim
  13. Is there any way to obtain Terminal Procedures version 0802? I'd like it to match up with my slightly older AIRAC Navdata version at least for the moment.Kim
  14. Tabs,Thanks for the reply. I checked and noticed that the AIRAC cycle number is now 0802 in my FMCWP folder. That had to be changed with the update since I had an older rev number before. I gather that I'm going to need to update my SIDSTARS as well to make the FMC happy. As for the newer wing flex modeling, well, I'll just have to update to FSX and the 747X someday to get that feature, although I'll need a new computer for that one.Kim
  15. First of all, thanks to the PMDG development team for the fantastic update to their 747. It's better than ever and much more polished.Just a couple of questions with my FS9 747:1. Was the nav data (AIRAC and Terminal Proceedures) updated or changed and what cycle was used?2. I'd read awhile back in an earlier post here that the FSX wing flex model was going to be applied to the FS9 747 in this update. Was that addition dropped or doesn't it work within FS9? I still have the three wing segment bends in flight after the update.Kim
  16. I have Ultimate Defrag and personally I love it. I really like the graphical interface that's shaped like a disk which shows where it's placing your files while it's defragging. It does help speed up texture load times with FS when you defrag by selecting the 'high performance' and the 'by file name' options.Kim
  17. Robbie,If you don't have a large setup of FS, just uninstall it, or if you do, some new drives come with software that allows you to transfer your software programs to the new drive. However, you will have to do registry editing to make FS work. In my case, I needed to purge out a large, cluttered setup of FS, so I just uninstalled everything. There have been posts here about how to edit the registry for a drive swap if you don't want to do reinstall, just do a search if you want to try this. When you go to do the reinstall or the move to the new drive, first make sure that you create a new folder on the new drive so that you have an empty folder to point to when you get around to installing FS. If you decide to do a reinstall of FS instead of a move, do a complete install so that you get the option that allows you to point to the new drive and your new folder, for example, D: Flight Simulator (whatever you previously named it). FS will then install the large bulk of it's most accessed files on the new D drive, while the shortcuts, exe. files, cfg. files and flight save files end up on your C drive. All scenery, texture and aircraft files end up on the new drive, which you then can properly and efficiently defragment. If you put FS on first, it will end up on the outer rings of the drive, getting the fastest access.Kim
  18. I've been watching for the release of this DVD for awhile. Glad to hear it's getting closer. More training is always good on this complex and challenging aircraft.Kim
  19. I bought it and definitely found it to be a worthwhile purchase. I like the disk-shaped graphical interface that shows you where all the files are being put. Make sure you defrag by setting 'high performance' and 'by file name' when you perform the defrag. But another worthwhile addition is to get new separate hard drive that doesn't have the OS on it and install FS on the very outer ring of the drive using the above settings in the defrag program. This really helps performance.Kim
  20. Here's two videos of landings at this airport, one is from a 737 cockpit view. You can see why this airport is so hazardous! And here is one from an airport in France I've never heard of and the runway elevation changes wouldn't even be modeled right in flight sim to try it! Really hairy! Check out the slope of the runway! The pilot looks like he's almost going to hit the end of the runway when he lands. Kim
  21. Aren't there two check boxes under the AFDS section in the 737 PMDG options menu called 'throttles override' and 'controls override'? This option exists with the 747 but I can't check out the 737's options at the moment to verify this, my spouse is on the other computer right now. You can also set a larger 'null zone' in FSUIPC for your controls so if you accidentally bump them, you won't get an A/P disconnect.Kim
  22. Hi Steve.I've finally got two stable setups of FS9, so when something you're not expecting happens, you tend to go "Oh @#%$, not again!" I'm so relieved to find out it was a normal occurrence. I just hadn't noticed it before with all my constant scenery tinkering. Now I'm at the point that I'd rather fly my aircraft than software hack. :-beerchug Kim
  23. Yep, that's it. Thanks for the reply. I hadn't thought of that little quirk. Makes sense though. I guess you learn something new everyday. :-dohKim
  24. Just a quick question. I've got a second copy of FS9 on another computer and I hadn't run FS9 on it for about three months. All that this particular computer was used for was Windows Update and some Internet use, no other programs were installed or changed. When I fired up FS9 on it yesterday, the scenery setup ran at the beginning load screen, but then seemed fine on subsequent loadings and I had no problems. I've noticed that this invariably happens to FS9 following a long period of inactivity (I was using FS9 on another computer). Has anybody else noticed this behavior?Kim
  25. Jordan, with laptops, the more you spend, bigger displays, faster CPU's, etc., the more you get. Laptops tend to be more money than desktop units as well. However, I am partial to the Hewlett Packard 9000 series, but if you want a bigger display, faster CPU and added memory, the price will go WAY up.I've got an HP 9000 series with a 19 inch screen and an Nvidia 7600 Go graphics card, but it doesn't run FS9 as well as my Dell desktop with an Nvidia 7950GT card. Both of my computers are several years old and I'm really waiting for Windows 7 to come out before I buy a new computer (I don't like Vista and I need to save up the money for now anyway). On top of that, the laptop gets really HOT when running FS9 or other computer games. Why do you want a laptop anyway? You can get a lot more horsepower in a desktop than in a laptop for the same amount of money.Kim
