  1. The word 'Managed' means the FMGS is taking care of things. A/P & A/THR are separate, disconnecting the A/P with A/THR engaged will not change whatever mode A/THR was in prior to disconnect. You must select either Managed or Selected Speed. If you switch off the flight directors the A/THR will revert to Selected Speed.
  2. I don't so how that would cause the FMA to display THR? I only skimmed the FCOM, however it seems to be pretty clear. With FLCH selected in decent you will see THR if your throttle sends a signal that it is not at idle. Obviously this is not an issue on the real machine since the throttle is back driven. I have seen this kind of issue (usually random throttle spikes) plenty of times doing tech support.
  3. And that is likely causing your issue, any hardware spike may affect the system reducing to idle and going remaining in HOLD.
  4. Well you still need to understand the basics, you can push or pull HDG & ALT to achieve different results. You pull the heading selector for HDG select, pull the altitude selector for open climb or descent. Selected modes have nothing to do with LNAV/VNAV (Managed in Airbus terms) The basics are - SELECTED (Pull) - HDG select, Vertical speed, open climb/descent = You are steering the aircraft through the autopilot panel (FCU) just like the default FS aircraft. MANAGED (Push) - Equivalent to Boeing's LNAV/VNAV you are flying the aircraft through a pre-programmed FMGS A simple way to visualize the push and pull philosophy. Push - You are pushing to give the aircraft full control. Pull - You are pulling to take back control and steer through the autopilot
  5. Technically you can operate the A320 using just HDG SELECT, Vertical speed & altitude hold. You don't even need to program the FMGS, just enter the departure and arrival arrival airport. You can if you wish just fly raw data in rose mode on the Nav display just like the default fs aircraft. This is done a lot in circuit training real world. Personally I say follow the advice of others here, spend a little time studying and it will be rewarding in the end, The AXE is still just a medium level sim, it wont take too long to get up and running
  6. Can you reproduce the issue? A video showing the problem before speed protection kicking in would help. EDIT - Guy's the logic is working correctly according to the FCOM. In FLCH descent - Mode reverts to THR. If the throttle is at idle the mode reverts to IDLE and then HOLD. I think the problem could be if the users hardware is not fully at idle, the system can remain in THR I should probably start studying Beoing philosophy again, it's been a while :/ Regards
  7. It's been months since I have flown the 777. Why is the FMA displaying THR? It should be HOLD in FLCH in a decent.
  8. It's not a Boeing, ground speed mini compensates. Also in general terms you always increase speed to compensate for a headwind. What do you think would happen on approach iin a large aircraft if you had a 30 knot head wind that suddenly reduced to 5 knots? That is why you add Vref additives on approach.
  9. Have you ever heard of the 'ground speed mini' function on the A330?
  10. It has nothing to do with a headwind. They are simply demonstrating alpha max on an empty aircraft. Not sure what the exact number for Vls is on an empty A330, but for sure the speed is very low. The limit for Vmca is 106 knots

    Trim Angle

It should read 'Pitch Attitude'... Not sure what happened there.. Alpha floor is an Auto-thrust function, it also has to make predictions using the FAC's based on the information it is fed. As explained above, variations in ground speed along with calculated differences between airspeed and ground speed is used to calculate when Alpha floor becomes active.

So you have no idea what trim is yet you understand Alpha Max & Alpha Prot?? This all sounds like you are cutting and pasting info of the web.. you have been given links and very good advice on getting to grips with the basics, I would suggest you take that advice. If you do really want to study the A330 I would suggest reading FCOM VOL1, all your answers can be found in that document written by the people who designed the aircraft. Here is a reference - FCOM 1.22.30 Alpha FLOOR is activated through autothrust system when : • Alpha is greater than a threshold depending on the aircraft configuration, the ground speed variation, and the difference between ground speed and air speed or, • Sidestick deflection is above 14 deg and: — pitch altitude is greater than 25 deg, or AOA protection is active

Just out of curiosity, what do you want to be when you are older? A pilot? an engineer?
  14. Yes.. You will find most PMDG forum users have the updates installed. They have link a link to that page in a pinned topic http://forum.avsim.net/topic/336155-magnetic-variation-updates-for-fs9-and-fsx/

I am starting to think he has been selected as a P2F direct entry first officer with a low cost carrier Requirements are - Zero flying experience, 25 years or younger, teach yourself how an A320 works!
  16. Yes, most definitely install them.
  17. Fastest way to do it is using the ASN debug window. You can instantly create a microburst or wake turbulence.
  18. Very nice example of an empty aircraft combined with AoA protection. No stall warning because it is nowhere near a stall
  19. So with the logic of some here cars should still be handmade... let's all go back to type writers and filling cabinets.. You either move with the times or you get left behind, that's life. No one is going to wait for you
  20. I think you need to get a reality check.. No robots are taking your flying job :/ most if not all of us here will be long gone & pushing daises before commercial airlines are running automated aircraft. Think you need to slow down mate, the first automated car hasn't even gone on sale yet. And of course it is about safety.. Safety and reducing costs is and always will be the primary goal.
  21. Yes, SEC (Spoiler & Elevator Control) Spoilers assist with roll control. As explained to you previously - Side stick sends signals to the ELACS which then send the signal to the SECS
  22. lol could you imagine PMDG aircraft being created by AI! 'It will be ready when it's ready!' Nope, it will be ready in 11 day's 4 hours and 23 seconds ;-)
  23. No it wouldn't, in fact an automated bit of software that could develop complex addons would be brilliant! anyway my main job is not developing addons.. Call center technology is still in it's infancy, it has come a long way since they first started using voice recogniction. For example, I find my Banks automated service much faster and clearer then talking to someone outsourced in India. Sorry to hear about your job but that's just life. The brutal truth is if your skill is dying out then it's time to learn a new skill. (Edit - I'm willing to take flak for that statement, its just my opinion!)
  24. As someone that spends a fair bit of time in London I have come to appreciate the DLR driverless trains, they never strike about pay conditions or time off. Anyway, driverless trains & cars (coming soon) have nothing to do with having a physical robot sitting at the controls. Same deal with aircraft. We will see drone aircraft (freighters) operating a lot sooner than Captain Robot MK1 at the controls.
  25. lol, what's the big deal? You sound like someones grandad :-)
