1. I just wanna put my name on the list of those with CTD's. Seems to be an FMC problem... at least that's when I get dumped -when playing with FMC.I did get one "netframe exception" notice after getting dumped (I did capture the system notice, if needed for reference).Xp324 gigs ram installednvidia 8800One other note ....I'm almost guranteed to get dumped at TNCM using the AGZ sid.Ken
2. What Philip said. You're probably going to end up in a parking lot 3 miles down range from the runway you departed from if don't do the tutorial. The PMDG 747 is a "mash the thottle and go", the MD11 is not ....based on my :( experience.
3. How many frames per second can the human eye see? This is a tricky question. And much confusion about it is related to the fact, that this question is NOT the same as: How many frames per second do I have to have to make motions look fluid? And it's not the same as How many frames per second makes the movie stop flickering? And it's not the same as What is the shortest frame a human eye would notice? -Copied from 100fps.comKen
4. My FSX on XP days are over. Been flying exclusively on Win 7 64.Note: If going from XP to Win7, you must do file permission home work before installing -get Vista security info.My puter specsMobo: Asus p5n e sliRam: 4 gigs Video: 8800 gts 640Cpu: e8400
5. Gamer,I have a friend who works at Microsoft, Seattle, he tells me that MS has the A team from MS Office on this project. Another poster mentioned that Win7 was just a warmed over version of Vista, well -according to my source, he's be mostly right. Basically what this new team is doing is cleaning up the mess that the previous Vista team left behind.Rumor has it that the former Vista team is now at Apple, Cupertino. <----- I have not been able to verify this. :-)signed,Ken
6. Passed with flying colors!Performance -non scientific- has got to be double of what I was getting with XP home ....with the exact same hardware! OBW, Load times are at least twice as fast! And I have the Win7 64 installed on a single drive! My Xp is installed on a raid 0!!!!Md11, Rex with FS Dream Team's JFX was smooth as silk! With fsx settings at twice the load I ran on XP and water at 2x hi -vs the 1x hi on XP, I am getting the same frame rate. But wait! There's more! The whole darn airport loads into memory, with all of NY in it's glory in background!I strongly encourage all of you who demand alot from FSX, including those of you running Vista 64 (a buddy of mine has Vista 64, and he reports the same performance and stability gains) to get a new drive and install Win 7 64! XP users ...make sure you disable that UAC feature within Win7 before installing anything ...big problems if you don't! :-(
7. OMG!!!!It's beautiful! After completely thrashing the WIN7 64 Beta and almost giving up on it, I pulled up my sleeves did some homework and then did a complete reinstall.FSX and the PMDG MD11 installed without a fuss.I've never seen the MD11 (we'll load the 747 later) in such a spectacularly realistic light! The textures and lighting are just ....well,,, WOW!See this is why we sign our post with our real name. vbgAnyway, the big test tonite; the MD11, Rex and JFK 31r from KORDFor reference:Ive never used Vista so I can't compareHave only used FSX with XP Home for my flight simming careerSystem spex:e84004 gigs ram -will install 2 additional gigs tonite 8800GTS 640I'm keeping it (Win7 64) :-)
8. Well, I gave it a go. If what I experienced over the past 12 hours with Windows 7 is any indication of what desk top computing is going to be like in the future, I'm not in. What a pain in the &@($*! Now I know what you Vista guys must be/have been going through.I've never used Vista due to all the horror stories with the "system security" crap, but I can't imagine it has improved with Win 7. Freaking horrible. I activated FSX 5 times, all after "successful activations", due to some file protection that prevented FSX activation from changing a file. But more importantly, I couldn't get the PMGD MD11 Installer to work due to some "exception error". The only reason I went through this was to see if a 64 bit os was my answer to the OOM issues I have with the MD11, Rex and runway 31 at FS Dream Team's JFK combination. ...Does Vista write protect every file from every program you install? I couldn't believe what I was seeing with WIn7, when I looked at the directories I noticed all of my installed programs, and files contained within, were given read only attributes.I'll try Win XP 64.Ken
9. Glad you brought the fuel freezing thingy up.I too suffered a fuel freeze last night half way to KJFK -from TNCM, and lost an engine. 1st time that has happened to me. After some panic, I did as the FMS recommended and dove for warmer altitudes then re-fired the engine and was good to go, albeit 10,000 feet lower than the "optimal" altitude....was all moot, however; FSX crashed just as I lined up for 31R. @#@%!Kenp.s. I was running REX, also.
10. My experience has been that the aircraft has to be totally trimmed for final BEFORE 1500 agl, ie landing flaps, flap ref, weight, landing gear ...etc.I also try to make sure the throttle on my joystick is in the idle position before 1500 agl. ..I think shifty winds can also take you out of "dual land" mode.Ken
11. Thanx for the tip. I've often wondered, but was afraid to ask, how guys were posting "hi quality/HD" You Tube links.
12. I like the camera shake. In fact, if I wasn't so lazy I'd pull out my mini dv and film with it. I just like the look and feel of a hand held out in the field.
13. Edoc Walk Camera (for FSX)Search the AVSIM forum for latest link or try the link below (link is about a year old. not verified for integrity). Warning: No lifeguard on duty Use at your own risk http://speedskater.ru/download/arccvid/ezd...cameraV1_22.rar
14. Sorry guys, I couldn't resist. Kenedit: updated link
15. I can't comment on how Rex weather affects the PMDG at 35,000FT, but I can say the scenery effects are abosoluty gorgeous. The reason I haven't been at 35,000ft is because Im still in total awe of Rex below 6000 agl. Be advise that the product is huge! And you will have to allow 6 to ten minutes for it to load each and every session (you can bypass Rex anytime for normal FSX scenery), but once your loaded up everything seems to work like a hot knife through butter.Ken
16. Don't ignore the negative comments regarding the 9 series cards from Nvidia. The 9xxx series cards have unresolved issues. The Nvidia 8800gts, or the 2xx series cards are better choices.
17. Never mind. Seems my hard drive was just a tad fragmented. Embarrassed.
18. I've notice an irritating pause with the sim just as the MD11 touches down. The pause only lasts a fraction of second, but it happens all the time and at all airports -addon or default. Its apparent in real time and replays, manual or auto land. It's almost as if my puter is waiting on a sound file(s) to load ...or something to that affect. One other minor concern. I've noticed that the spoiler animation does not work in replay mode. I'm comparing this condition to the 747x which does have spoiler animation.thanx,Ken
19. I don't have an answer or an explanation, but I can relate similar experiences while landing on 13L at JFK. Although, I have to report that my experience with 13L getting "short" in a hurry has also been noticed in the 744X.Just for reference, I'm using that new JFK scenery.-Ken
20. Yeah, it's pretty #### cool. Got me out of the 747X (probaly a 1000hrs in it).I've got about 15 to 20 hrs so far into MD 11 and appreciate it more each and everytime I start it up. They're some short comings, but nothing that stops me from enjoying this bird.Ken
21. It's a fairly new JFK scenery for FSX. I can't recommend it nor do I want to flame it, as I'm sure the developers put a lot of effort into it. Shouldn't be to hard to find. ....it does have some nice Kodak Photo Spots, though. :-) -Ken
22. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kANHBzZCJrYHere's one. Just me taking her out of the hanger and crusing around the yard. Some sound toward the tail end of the clip. My only attempt to get her in the air ended in disaster 3 miles from the rnwy.Ken
23. Wow :-(I embarrassed to say I didn't make the connection until you brought up the names, Joe.Man, my prayers and condolences to the crew, the people on the ground and the Kalitta's.Ken
