  1. I tell you, this guy Mir captured the mood of KSFO. If you've never been to KSFo but wondered what it's like, just plug in the enb series bloom and todays weather -set the time to just before sunset and you'll know what it's like. Just a masterful job. There are couple things that bother me. The parking garage -in front of the international terminal- and the AA hangar seem to be too large, especially the garage.Other than what you pointed out with the rnwy markings, I think the runways and taxi are as good as I've seen ...although, FSDT Vegas are pretty damn close. 2. For you MD11'ers that might being flying the KLM MD11 into 'Frisco'.http://www.flightbeam.net/Spend the night at the airport, the night textures are spectacular.
  3. Hello all, Im confused. Are you saying that Method 'A' uses cpu vid for voltages and that method 'B' uses vcore settings? Cuz, CpuZ works with one method and not the other, that's the part where I'm lost ....maybe really lost. :-)....And for reference, the heaviest load I'll use is FSX.With the Clunk method, the CpuZ graphic shows 48x100 with volts, or vid, at 1.35 -I get the same reading with cpuz and hwinfo but Real Temp shows 1.400.With the HardForum method CpuZ, HWinfo32 and Real Temp all report 48x100 as being 1.411.Real Temp, CPUZ and HWinfo32 all follow the HardForum method but not the Clunky. Why? I'm using 1.57. Is there a later rev.?Thanx guys
  4. Interesting finding here ....maybe why some of ya's have been laughing at me with regards to my voltages:http://www.clunk.org.uk/forums/overclocking/39184-p67-sandy-bridge-overclocking-guide-beginners.html#post110904Over clocking using the guide linked above, using the 4.7 to 4.9 method, seems to be a lil misleading on the cpu voltage. When the cpu is running under hvy load (4800x100) CPUID 1.57 and HWinfo32 show the turbo frequency but still report the voltages as 1.35 however, Real Temp 3.67 reports the Turbo mode volts as 1.39 to 1.40. So it seems that if some of you who are cranking up your manual cpu volts to 1.36 and beyond might actually be pushing your CPU into no-mans-land when in Turbo mode. I can only imagine what the actual volts are with a base set at 1.38.Now I know, based on what the dood linked below tells us in his "how to overclock to 4.8" guide -if I'm reading it right, is that the cpu is probably going to need 1.40 to 1.42 volts at 4.8GHz. So that leads me to believe that the Real Temp 3.67 reading (above paragraph) is probably showing the correct volts under load and that CPUID and HWinfo32 are not.http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1578110Ok, now here's the interesting part: CPUID, HWinfo32 AND Real Temp 3.67 all agree on the Turbo voltages using the method described by the Asus rep. at Hardforum.com. The only significant differences that i can between the two overclock guides that might cause the voltage discrepancy is the way the two methods use the "By All Cores" settings. Clunk uses the "can adjust in OS" while the ladder uses the "by per core" setting. So, if anyone else can confirm the voltage discrepancy, then that might explain why the 1.41 to 1.42 volts I use at 5.0GHZ (based on the Hardforum guide) is in the green zone and that why some of ya's only running at "1.36 plus" volts are having issues.p.s. Im using the 1204 bios
  5. "So, what's under your hood and how fast does it go?"Hi Dave!I'm sorry if I've been a lil off topic with my recent posts in this thread.Something tells me I need qualify myself. I don't think I'm getting much in the way of credibility around here ....maybe its my 'FunknNasty' handle. Or maybe it's because I'm lil too informal around here. At any rate...About me:--I'm a middle aged white man born and raised in Silicon Valley -that's in Nor-Cal for the uninitiated.--I've been over-clocking puters since the tech support dood told me I needed a 33mhz FSB bus for smooth play.--My 1st job (working for someone other than family) was stuffing mobos for Osborne computers -the 1st """laptop""", again for the uninitiated.--Family business was buying and selling IC's (Integrated circuits)before my 1st real job.--Puter games that hooked me as youngster were F-14 Fleet Defender and Nascar Racing, MS Flightsim 5.0.--I've traveled the country for competitive lan tourneys, winning a few thousand $$$ in prizes along the way -I know the feeling missing of the big event due to an unseated heatsink.--During my online racing career I got to know everyone-who's-anyone in both virtual racing and real racing (Nascar's biggest star once asked me to drive his virtual race car when he was unable to make his own his private online league race. <----for affect :-)--I alpa and beta tested Iracing.--My current puter heroes/gurus/gods are TABS and Bojote and Nick.....Anyway, I'm having fun on here with you guys and this Sandy Bridge rig. I haven't been this stoked with puter hardware in a long, long, long time. My last couple of puter builds (the last being an e8400 on a P5Ne sli) took me 30 seconds to dial in. What kinda fun is that?p.s. If you see my name here (AVSIM forum) as being online, I'm probably in my pajamas.
  6. Thanx man!Yeah, I'm just showing off the 3dMark06 score. For the last 3 or 4 years I've been slammed with 3DMark scores from a friend of mine. It's pay back time. :-)I tell you what, the 3dMark CPU Mark scales real well and is not an easy hurdle to jump when testing your CPU.I'm going to have give that A10 a looksie, guys are raving about it over at the PMDG forum.
  7. I would also make sure you're not using the BLk overclock feature. This feature will change your ram settings not to mention overclocking everything else in your case. Make sure your on a x100 multiplier. Use extreme caution if your adding volts to the offset feature ....start with the smallest increments and work your way up as needed.Verify volts and temps under Turbo conditions -use CPUID (Real Temp 367 under reports voltages in offset mode -doesn't seem to get the added offset volts). An overclocking reference guide, if you're using an Asus http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1578110
  8. I wanna update my 560Ti 3Dmark scorehttp://3dmark.com/3dm06/15468986 <------- holding it's own against 470's, 570's and 580's with the same CPU.
  9. Ah ha! 5.4GHz b-a-b-y! <g>Playing with the offset got me to 5.4GHZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzs!http://3dmark.com/3dm06/15468986 <-----Cpu score 9998http://3dmark.com/3dm06/15468885 <----Cpu 10,000 cpu bench onlyAgain boyz, air cooled with an $18.00 CoolMaster Hyper 212 PlusThe offset allows my puter to run 5.0ghz at 1.411V (1.42 without the offset), which drops my hvy load temps from high 60's to low 60's. Plus, when not under hvy load the cpu now runs 1.1 to 1.2v at idle, as opposed to the 1.42 without the offset.small note: 1.552v to get past that 2nd 3DMark06 cpu test -man, that was a major hurdle.
  10. Does anyone here have a fundamental understanding of how the CPU vid offet switch, on an Asus mobo, switch works and how to use it? Does it need C states and/or Speedstep enabled to be effective?
  11. As bojote and Ryan (over at PMDG) have pointed out, shader processors are everything with FSX and the 570 has more. Heck, with some simple math, you could probably do a 560 vs 570 FSX cost/performance analysis just based on shader cores. My main attraction to the 560ti was the form factor, nearly 3 inches shorter than the 570. Plus the 560ti burns less energy than the 570. But the fact is, the 570 is a superior card to the 560ti (at any clock speed) with FSX.Interesting FSXMark11 bench:560TI at default clocks (GPU 880/Mem 2100/Shader 1760) Average FPS is 43Over clocked 1000/2500/2000Average FPS is 43Note:The 560ti on my i5 2500k @ 5GHz is around 30% faster in FSX than the GTX 275 it replaced. But the question is, would the 560ti hold that same performance gain on the E8400 @ 3.6GHz the 2500k replaced? FSXMark11 linkhttp://forum.avsim.net/topic/328262-fsxmark11/
  12. re: "pure" FSX cfgMy system will crash without the himem tweak, and possibly without a bufferpool alteration.
  13. My experience with the BLK has been a mixed bag. On one the hand everything is faster, my mouse, printer, soundcard ......hell, even my case is faster with the BLK switch. All this tells me that the BLK is pumping some serious particles through my system, maybe even more than it can handle. But it's faster! On the other hand I don't like the double post boot I get with the BLK feature -Is it looking for a memory timming it can live with? I dunno, but it's annoying as hell. So, in a nutshell I use the rounded off multiplier that is 100 (100x50).
  14. I too have the 560TI (MSI OC)Check out these scores 3dMark06 http://3dmark.com/3dm06/154653453DMark11http://3dmark.com/3dm11/723360....not bad for a $250 card, huh?One other note: It's quite .....almost cut a finger off making an attempt to see if the fans were working. 15. I have option #3. Seems to get along real well with my Asus Deluxe. I run 1600 8-8-8-24-1t.
  16. An informal post-All FSXMark11 FSX cfg. settings are as per instructions. Textures are assumed to be default -used the rex "restore" feature. 17. I did get a successful boot to windows 5.4ghz. -just reporting that I do have a special processor. :-)I stayed in Windows at 5.4 just long enough to capture CPUid at 5400x100. Did not feel confident that windows was stable enough to run a bench, and I'm not going to force the issue with my Hyper 212 Plus air cooler.Looks like 5.0 will be my default setup.
  18. Yeah, with FSX it's really hard to get the cpu past 70% cpu load or about 60 to 70 watts (FS Dreamteam JFK, 100% WOAI traffic (major airlines), GTX 275 1680x1050 with ******* automated tweeks and FPS limiter). At this load FSX temps are in the 50s c. I can get the load up to around 95% (105 watts) with full screen FRAPS capture enabled. The temps at this load are in the hi 60's tickling 70c.Your right about Prime95. I usually only get about 25% cpu load and the temp range is 40's to 50's c.-KenI5 2500k @ 5.2ghz (51x102.6) CPU vid 1.435
  19. update:3dMark06 CPU bench @ 5.2 (51x102.6) GHz is 9820 ....geez, I might have the fastest air cooled pc on the planet. :-)Oh, Prime95 and FSX luvs it. 72c max temp (fsx), 67c with Prime95 and 3dMark06. Ambient room temp was 70F.http://3dmark.com/3dm06/15445271
  20. Hi guys:I wanna get the 560 TI to replace my existing gtx275 -assuming it's an actual upgrade. Question, will the TI reasonably keep pace with FSX under heavy load (I5 @ 5GHz), or do I need to get the 570? My GTX was fine with my E8400, but the GTX 275 gets burried with the new processor unless I use your tweak utility in conjunction with FPS Limiter. I'm looking at the TI because I like the fact that it's 2 inches shorter than the GTX275/GTX570 and burns a little less juice than the 570. I don't plan to use this rig for anything other than FSX?Your thoughts? -Ken
  21. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kio97WGg1PIFS 2007 benchmark using global Hi config, captured with fraps. Details of config and capture in the movie details. The movie intended to represent "smoothness" with some global reference we can all appreciate. ...I think there's enough headroom in this rig to captured at 60fps full screen.Ken
  22. I'll my post my thoughts here:Coming from an E8400 @ 3.6GHz, my minimum framerates are double using the I5 2500k at default speeds.Furthermore, the cpu speed scales nicely with FSX, so you can imagine what I'm getting at 5ghz.Informal observations: GTX275 @ 1680x1050, FS Dreamteam's JFK, WOAI traffic at 100% (all major carriers used), Rex @HD and the PMDG MD11E8400 @ 3.6GHz min 10I5 @ 5.0GHz min20+ <-----even with a full screen FRAPs captureI'm using the Asus P8p67 Deluxe, Corsair 1600 mem 8 gigs(2 sticks) 8cas 1.5v with the GTX275.System setup (5ghz) using this guide http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1578110
  23. If you haven't done so already, consult theeee Guru,http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1578110With the above mentioned guide, my system is dialed in at 5.0 -2500K on the Deluxe.
