  1. I've had similar a issue in the past. I've dealt with it by defraging the hard drive.Ken Carlin
  2. NS! I can remember my 1st sim experience like it was yesterday. It was JFK in a box, some assembly required. Inside the box was a cardboard trifold with some plastic stuff that represented the terminals and airliners. Dec. 25, 1969. ....Maybe it wasn't plastic. Was plastic even around in 69? :(
  3. I think the Space Shuttle runs shorter routes.
  4. I spotted this in China ....Nice paint, man!

  6. This is from Eric over at Buttkicker:If the sim produce low freq output like engine hum and take off should really be noticeable, especially landing effects.I would suggest the BK Gamer 2 or NASCAR Edition for more wattage and kick. www.thebuttkicker.comPosted by:Ken Carlin
  7. Win7 64 works well with FSX and the PMDG 747x and MD11x. However, there is one area where I feel WIN XP is clearly superior to WIN7 and that is sound. MD11 sounds are almost monoural on Win7 (onboard sound or XFi Xtreme Gamer), where as the MD11 sounds are almost IMAX like on XP (with the Xtreme Gamer). As far as Win7 64 vs XP32 FSX performance is concerned; with Nicks' Tweaks, XP 32 with 4 gigs of ram is just as good as Win7 64 equipted with the same hardware config. My specs:e8400@3.68800gts 6404 gigs ram
  8. I'm having a problem with the FSX real weather utility. My computer appears to be downloading information from Jeppesen but my maps are not updated -California. This issue has been going on for a few weeks now. Is me? Maybe others are have the same issues? Any help would appreciated. BTW, the problem exists on both my Win 7 and XP32 FSX installs.Thanx,Ken
  9. Ok. Lets try this: My problem is so bad that I'm thinking I have a joystick problem; however, something struck me as kinda odd during trouble shooting; the TAT rises as much as 4 degrees C from the start of takeoff roll to V2. Is this normal?Thanx,Ken
  10. I've always had an occasional problem with the auto thrust dropping me down from TO thrust to CRUZ thrust after the FO calls out 80kts on take off roll, but lately it's been the norm. Makes no difference what engines ....if I use the flex option the auto thrust will drop from TO thrust to Cruz thrust when the First Officer calls out 80 kts.I suspect somethings corrupt somewhere. I've tried the MD11 repair utility, deleting the FSX config file and reinstalling the airac files, but with no luck.Any suggestions?thanks in advance,Ken
  11. I couldn't resist. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-AsOFXSdGE&fmt=22 Cruzed the streets of San Francisco in the BMW during rush hour. It was like I was really there.Thanx for the link, Sanal.
  12. Ruling restores suit against Jeppsen linked to 'torture flights' By Howard MintzMercury NewsPosted: 04/28/2009 11:23:15 AM PDTUpdated: 04/28/2009 09:01:49 PM PDTA federal appeals court on Tuesday reinstated a lawsuit against a San Jose-based company accused of participating in the CIA's so-called "torture flights," rejecting the Obama administration's argument that it would expose national security secrets. In a 26-page ruling, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals found that the federal government failed to document how the lawsuit would reveal state secrets, sending the case back to San Jose U.S. District Judge James Ware for further proceedings. Ware dismissed the lawsuit last year, concluding that litigation over the controversial flight program could prompt the disclosure of CIA secrets.A unanimous three-judge 9th Circuit panel disagreed."According to the government's theory, the Judiciary should effectively cordon off all secret government actions from judicial scrutiny, immunizing the CIA and its partners from the demands and limits of the law," Judge Michael Daly Hawkins wrote for the court. The American Civil Liberties Union filed the lawsuit in 2007 on behalf of five men who say they were subject to the government's "extraordinary rendition" program, which involved allegations they were kidnapped and sent to overseas prisons where they were tortured as terrorism suspects. The lawsuit was filed against Jeppesen Dataplan, a San Jose-based subsidiary of Boeing that is accused of knowingly participating in the government program.Jeppesen has declined to discuss the program, but has denied any wrongdoing or responsibility for the torture flights. Court papers show that the five men were kidnapped and shipped to various prisons around the world, including Egypt, Morocco and Guant
  13. What Adam said. I would add "arm" the reverse thrusters the moment you touch down.My landing experience with the MD11 has been nothing like landing the PMDG 747. I'm stretching this a bit, but I could put the 747 on a postage stamp. With the MD11 I take the final approach like I do takeoffs -praying ..er paying close attention to rnwy length, head wind and most importantly landing weight.edit in: I read somewhere where a pilot said something like, ""one must not be afraid to ruff up the passengers a bit to ensure a safe landing."""
  14. :( I'm lost. I don't understand why the AT wouldn't allow me to use the "minimum" thrust (70c) under the above mentioned conditions. When using a calculated density altitude below 0 why is it I don't use "0" on the sea level correction chart ....or more to the point, why is the actual airport altitude even relevant when making the corrections? If I'm coming accross as "way lost", I'd understand why you don't post a response. :-)Ken
  15. 24c and a guesstimated dew of 15c would give a density altitude of 1700 FT, would it not?If the OAT was closer to the actual air temp for Paris yesterday (24F with a dew of 10f), the density altitude would be -1700 FTwith the caculated flex being closer to 70 @ flaps 13?I'm posting this for my own tuition.Thanx,Ken
  16. The way I re live a flight with FSX and PMDG.Recording new flight:Start a new flightGet the aircraft trimmed for take off -including all the flight data.Save the flightStart FS recorder and hit the record entryEnd FS recorder and save recorded data -file name should match that of saved flight for easy recall.Replay:Start MSFSLoad saved flightBring up FS Recorder and load the matching flight using the play buttonNote:You'll still have to manually input certain control surfaces and gear, but you'll get the Que from the recorded data on when these movements took place during the origina flight. It takes time to get familiar with the ability and capacity of FS Recorder, but invest a lil time and you'll get what you want out of it.
  17. James,I'm pretty sure the tutorial flight and cockpit panel files are for FS9 only. You can use the tuotrial, but you're gonna have to setup the cockpit up manually.
  18. Saturn V,Dude, you're absolutely huge!!!! As great as the PMDG MD11 is there was one glaring gap in the immersion factor, the flex thingy. Thanx for bridging the gap in such a detailed and easy to use way,Kenp.s. I've seen the Saturn V on display @ Kennedy ...the most awesome man made machine/structure I've ever seen. A must see.
  19. I get the ctd with the 4096 and the standard 1024 MAX_TEXTURE_LOAD argument in the cfg file.
