2. That temp is alot better than what I was getting; albeit, I was using a reference design 580. The 560ti I have does use the Twin Frost cooler. The FSXMark11 is a great utility in more ways than one. It can also be used as a stress test platform. The scenery and settings do take my I5 2500 near the rated TPD of 95 watts. Also interesting is the Hyper 212 Plus keeps the CPU at 72c at that 95watt load. Also interesting this is all happening at 5GHz. Maybe the K series Sandy Bridges are designed for 5Ghzeeeees? Is my cpu actually overclocked? Anyway, I digress. :-)Ive never taken the time to GPU check memory loads. I do use the big FSX airport addons along with my preferred weapon of choice the PMDG MD11. I can say the 560ti doesn't hold back in any noticeable way. Sorry for HiJak Corey. :-)
3. The temps quoted are reported GPU temps. :-)Sorry for the confusion (560ti 50c/580 70c ...under heavy FSX load). -Ken
4. A FPS limiter is not required for smooth play ...I use the ENB light bloom utility with no motion issues (have to make sure your stuff is dialed in, though). It's probably a good idea to re-compile the shader file anytime you make a significant change to your video settings. Other games will do this for you automatically, with FSX you will have to manually do this. Instructions: shader <----see post #17-Ken Carlin
5. Hi Dazz-I think it's coincidental that I have 30 for a min and 60 for max. As I posted earlier, I dbl checked the VSYNC and also verified FRAPS. All is good. Hi Cory-How about an X-tra 2 inches in form factor length and about 20 degrees Celsius in additional heat (560ti maxes out at 50c the 580 is at 70c -FSXMark11 bench readings/fans at idle/both cards at default settings). :-) FSXMark11 with my own everyday settings, TAB's (See PMDG graphics guide) 8SQ driver settings and Rex HD textures at 2048 does produce some performance separation between the two cards: GTX 560TI Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg 13317, 300000, 25, 59, 44.390 GTX580 Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg 15191, 300000, 27, 67, 50.637 However, I do think the performance gap narrows significantly on final approach into places like FlightBeams's SFO and FSDreams's JFK. Now to the subjective stuff: The 560ti is as smooth as the 580. I would fail the """blindfold""" test in a side by side visual comparison on my rig. Conclusion: I'm taking the 580 back today, not because it's a horrible performer but because it's a pig next to the lean mean fighting machine that is the 560ti.
6. Ok, 1 last submission: This is 50x100 with C1 and Speed Step enabled (my default, everyday config), as opposed to my previous 580 post which was 52x100 with C1 and Speed Step disabled.
7. I know vsync isn't on -confirmed by panning camera outside aircraft. However, I can tell you that during the benchmark runs the internal fps counter touched 70 fps and ran extended periods in the mid to high 60's. So while I know vysnc is disabled , I'm a bit concerned as to why FRAPS fails to report my max FPS.
8. I'll post my thoughts in another thread ....but it ain't looking good, through the monitor into the FSX world at 1680x1050, for the 580.Edit: I'll post my thoughts in the '''video card''' forum later today.
9. 560Ti vs 580 reference board? Let the games begin. :Big Grin:
10. Or perhaps is just the nature of the industry. Think about it: memory chips -with their built in profilesSandy BridgeSATA 6USB3SSD'sdual channnel thistri channel thatIde Pci XXxAHCIblue toothgadgets for this gadgets for thatsmart phonesFlash Direct XXXXXXDRMCloud3 gigs5 GHZH67P67Z68I7 (old)I7 (newI7 (new'er)HDMI ....onboardoff load1156136611551155MicroATXMicro ATX....And that's just this week!
11. I think Tab's is only telling half the story. My experience is you'll see increased performance with faster memory.Be advised: "memory with X58/P55 XMP profiles will generally work but is not optimized for P67 and will usually cause problems when overclocking in several cases)". <----copied from below linkAsus tech supportKen Carlin
12. Hi PatYou need a base reference. Run the FSXMark11 bench(as close to specifications as time will allow) and compare your results with others with similar hardware. After that? Well, you're on your own. :-)
13. I use offset +005. The base voltage I used is the "optimized default" voltage for my mobo/ cpu (I2500K 3.3GHz 1.191). One can tell what their base is by looking at the reported voltage in BIOS. Notes (my puter):For 5.2 my offset might be .025.For 5.4 it may look like .075 or .050 with some added turbo volts.Edit:Another tool I used while playing with the offset feature is Real Temp. Real Temp/Settings/Disable Turbo. This will show your base voltage (no turbo) while allowing you to switch the turbo feature on the fly (important, because a lil bit of offset can go along way in turbo mode :Big Grin: ).
14. The 1st month I had my board I ran @ 5.0 without ESIT or C1e due to the VRM issues with MY board -associated with the BIOS(1204) at that time, with no issues. Issues I had with Speedstep: stutters, voltage spikes, and the idle state(1600mhz) performing like an 800mhz Athlon. Since then, Asus has dialed in the VRM associated with Speedstep/ESIT/Turbo Boost/C1e -smooth as a babies &@($*, and I use 'em.
15. Well, my stuff may not be stable at the speeds your signature tells us -I've not tested mine at those speeds, but I can tell you my stuff is as stable as any rig on the planet at 5 GHz.Ken
16. Stew,Man, I feel bad about your situation.Assuming you're in the same boat as a few days ago, have you tried: -exchanging the power supply -just in case it hasn't been mentioned here already, tried using just one stick of ram ....rotate them to insure that one isn't badGood luck, man.
17. Boeing's credibility/accountability is questionable -see that $4,000,000,000.00invisible fence? .....No one else has either.-Ken Carlin
18. Would your background include Tuffs and MIT by any chance? Because I'm picking up some thinly veiled humor with this post.My name IS Ken Carlin (-damn it), and I approve of the below pasted post. :(
19. Dood, you better sitdown and make sure your heatsinks are properly seated, cuz my $400 rig will be smo-ken-u.-uh huh.
20. Wow, I did not know that. Come to think of it, I shouldn't be so surprised. I recently heard this story about a dood that took a specially rigged weather type balloon equipped with a large net to to see what was up there. One of the things that stuck in my head was his report of capturing a live termite at some ridiculously high altitude, something like 20,000ft, maybe higher. So there is life up there.-Ken The staff at Southwest are the best, there's no doubt about that. They're motivated, very energetic and always seem to be fresh. I'll give Southwest management credit for that.
21. :Shame On You: I can do 5.4 """"easily""". Hell, I haven't been denied any overclock, but I'm not going to push it past 5.4 with the cooler I have. Besides, I think I've maxed out my 560ti with FSX anyway.I can say """easily""" because, according to an expert, if your overclock quest ain't going easy then you've probably gone too far and should settle for fine tunning what works.#####Note: The 560ti is a fine card that gives me eveything I need. It just doesn't scale past 5.0GHz. Yes, I'd buy it again.
22. Yeah, I've been to Tijuana, Mexico. Seached through my handy dandy history book ....there seems to be some missing pages from about the fall of the Roman Empire to about the time St. Patrick roamed Ireland ....Ok, I'm getting off topic.Sorry guys. -Cheers
23. Well, if it's not design or maintenance issues, or the "fact" that Southwest Airlines DOES have a business model that DOES mandate that they abuse their sh@# and staff, then what was it? Did a funking bird run into at 30,000 ft?And this crap about safety records! Just as much as it was unfortunate other airlines have lost passengers, Southwest has been equally fortunate they haven't. Furthermore, I highly doubt that Southwest's conformance for maintenance record keeping is any better than the rest of the industry ....Hell, it's probably be worse.Am I Southwest hater? No, I just hate the market.
