  1. For what it's worth...3dMark06 CPU bench scores:8100 -my I5 2500K @ 4.2GHz (9000 @ 4.8ghz!)6400 -friend's I7 920 @ 4.2GHz Total 3dMark06 scores (for kicks and giggles)16,000 -my old e8400 @ 3.6GHz with the GTX 27521,000 -I5 2500k @ 3.7GHz with same gtx 275 (22,500 @ 4.8GHz)The minimum fps (FSX) with the I5 running at 3.7 GHz are double that of the E8400 running @ 3.6GHz (both machines using the same GTX 275, OS and FSX installs). Anyway, that's my informal take on the awesomeness that is the I5 2500K running the Asus p8p67 Deluxe with Corsair 1600MHz cas8 1.5v memory (2x4 8gb). P.S. I wanna give a shout-out to Microcenter, your service and prices are unmatched. And to Central Computers, for continuing to make their stock of P67 boards available to the public after the "recall". -Ken CarlinEdit: The I5 is as smooth as a babys &@($*, with the MD11 in FSX ....I've not felt the need to use any CPU or ******* tweaks.
  2. As of last Wednesday (Feb 9) Central Computers in Santa Clara, Ca. had about a dozen or so Asus P67 deluxe and Pro boards in stock.
  3. Just refurbished my MD11 with a brand new I5 2500K and two sticks of 4gb 1600mhz memory. Oh yeah, it must be like the days when DC8 pilots made the switch from turbojets to CFM turbo fans.
  4. Thanx guysI solved the problem that has caused me months of grief with win7.The problem? Windows7 Media Player. Uninstalled it and installed a 3rd party media player and viola! Fraps capture is as smooth as a babies &@($* and my video playback is now cached. I now now have real life direct memory access with video capture and playback.Ken
  5. I'm 'bout ready to just dump WIN7(64), save this one last effort to save it. :-) I've had WIn7 64 for about 6 months now and everything seems ok but for this nagging issue; poor hard drive performance. I can play a looped 30 sec 20mb video clip and the OS will only read the file directly from my hard drive never from ram. While capuring and playing back video it's like I'm not gettting any DMA or write-read cache, although drive benchmark software tell me everything is fine with my drives and hardware. One other observation while using FRAPS in Win7 that I don't see using in Xp32: I get some kind of video sync when I capture. For example, if my framrate within FSX is 80 to 100 fps FSX will sync down to 30 FPS when I start FRAPS capture. If FSX is running under 30 FPS the "captured" frame rate will sync down to exactly 50% of the noncapture frame rate. -I do not have and kind of video driver Vsync enabled ....as per Nvidia Inspector. When compared to WInXP, Win7 video performnce is horrible in FSX is horrible. With Win XP I can run FRAPS and actually forget it's on. On the otherhand, WIn 7 FRAPS performance (with pretty much the same FSX settings) brings the system to it's knees. Any help/tips would be appreciated by me,Ken C. My specs:Win7 64Win Xp 32 (on separate drive)e84004 gigs ramGTX 275X-fi gamer (sound card)
  6. The reason for the 744-LCF?
  7. I always assumed that the name Qantas was in some way associated with the Qoala Bear and that Longreach was a brand name for the 744 ER'S. -Ken Carlin
  8. Yeah, that was cool! Philly fans looking for ksfo? <g>side note: I saw a Delta 744 parked at the G side of the itn'l terminal ...a 1st for me.
  9. I was referring to the full cargo. Ive since taken the "windowed" version out for a spin and must say the dirt is a natural. I'm not a fan on the look of the Md11 windowed cargo, but I like the paint! My 1st impression of the windowed Martin reminded me of the old Western DC10's I'd see as a kid ...they seemed to be always dirty. I loved the look. -Ken CarlinP.S. re: requestI would get some use out of the China Cargo Airlines. :-)
  10. Lee,That HD Martin Air is just plain SICK! With your HD textures, Rex, ENBSeries light bloom and the updated Fly Tampa TNCM, together the stuff I'm seeing looks better than real ....damn near dream like. Thanx,Ken Carlin
  11. And for a lil xtra pop and smoke, you could add some water to that burning chair for that wet-thrust affect. -Ken Carlin
  12. Oh yeah, I'm interested. Thanx for all the other MD11 paints you've posted, BTW.K Carlin
  13. I went to an auto sim racing lan tourney with a joystick one time ....should've seen the look on those boys' faces when I left the building with the $600 grand prize TSW racing wheel. True. Yes, I too use a "twisty" for all my MD11 needs. :( Ken C
  14. Oh yeah, she's beautiful. Thanx, Lee!Ken
  15. Yeah, good find, Taylor! This guy http://www.youtube.com/user/SuredT has posted all kinds of good stuff, complete with narrative! He (Sured) even comments on the PMDG 747 at one of his uploads; saying, "all the buttons work, but the flying characteristics could be better".-Ken C
  16. I got your back on this hijack.Don't remember the WW1 fighter you mention, but I did spend a few hrs in the cockpit of the Wings of Glory Sopwith Camel.Microprose? If not for F14 Fleet Defender, I doubt I would've ever caught on with this computer stuff. My 1st puter ($2000) and just 6 months old was playing Fleetdefender like a slide show. I called Microprose to complain about the lousy performance. The support dude says, "you need a faster processor". I was like, DUDE?!? My puter is a top of the line IBM 486sx 25 with a 250MB hard drive!?! The support dude then tells me to relax, and then tells me that Intel has just released this new processor called the 486DX2 50 Overdrive that I could plug into my existing motherboard. He promised me that all my trouble would go away. They did! And I've been hooked on this stuff ever since. ...Remember the days when you could double the speed of your existing 6 month old puter for $300? Now those were the days.Ken Carlin
  17. Funking huge!!!!*******, you are a god!Thanx a bunch for sharing this info with us,Ken Carlin
  18. The FS logo will appear while textures are loading if one is using the DirectX 10 mode.
  19. I own REX and FSGenesis (FSX) ....I'd buy them again.
  20. Yeah, stuggled with the same problem for the longest time ....frustrated the #@#@ out of me. Since then I've been fine as long as I put the thottle on my joystick to full when I hear the clamp.
  21. I've had this problem. To deal with it I simply continue to advance the joystick throttle to near full after slowly bringing the engines to 70%. If I stop advancing the joystick throttle when I see the TO Clamp I'll almost always get that throttle reduction to 93% that you described.I'm using the Saitek AV8tR-01, for reference.Ken Carlin
  22. While I'm using XP as my preferred FSX OS, I've spent a lot of time playing with Win7 64 RC. The trouble makers on my rig are: -Using over 6 gigs of ram-Light Bloom (DirectX 9 mode)Ken Carlin
