AS16 no longer one license for all sims?
lowew79 replied to lowew79's topic in The AS16 and ASCA | Active Sky | Active Sky Next | XPAX Support Forumokay thanks for clearing it up, as I said, I can't help but feel a little disappointed, but business is business i suppose.

AS16 no longer one license for all sims?
Just to make sure I understand. If i want to use AS16 with both FSX and P3D, I will need to purchase two different products? ASN worked with both, and one license allowed you to use it with both. (in contrast) I like to use both and I must say I'm a bit disappointed if this is indeed the case. Perhaps I will stay with ASN. Still love Hi-Fi's products though, ASN has made my simming so much better!

PMDG operations center, should I have received it with my download?
Okay, i'm confused because I saw this on the 777 product page... PMDG Operations Center - Includes the new PMDG Operation Center, a stand-alone application which manages livery downloads and installations, livery options settings, documentation, support and much more. The OC also supports the PMDG Jetstream 4100 and PMDG 737NGX. We will be updating this application frequently to add new features and functionality. So, although the product works with the J-41, it is not available with the J-41, only the 777, is that correct?

FS Recorder: how to return to where I was after hitting play
Hello, So I recorded a landing using the record feature, but after playback ends, I am "time warped" so that I am where the plane was at the end of the recording. I was expecting that after playback I would be returned to the time place and aircraft state I was in when I hit playback from the menu. Is there a setting I am missing or is this just one of the oddities of FS Recorder?

Saitek trim wheel - should I purchase
I would advise strongly against an analog control for trim on the J41, as it will cause the autopilot to disco constantly. Because it is a analog control and the autopilot can not move it, it will interpret that as pilot input and will disconnect. Per AOM- The autopilot will disengage if any of the following condition exist: ... - Manual over-ride by the pilot beyond a point at which a servo clutch becomes disengaged. I had my trim mapped to a wheel and it didn't work at all, mapping trim to buttons still works fine. Get one for GA though, they are awesome! (I know this is an old post but I wanted to share my troubleshooting for future use)

saitek x52 and autopilot disconnect
Greetings All!, So i decided to do a re-familiarization flight in the J-41 as its been a while. So I go through the tutorial and all is well until I get to takeoff and it says engage the autopilot. After much frustration I know the issue, its my joystick... I have the X52, a great stick! Ok, I have the trim wheel set to the axis wheel on the "e" button (owners will know what i mean) the large wheel on the throttle. Now, I moved it to here instead of the two lighted buttons on the stick for greater control. It works FANTASTIC on hand flown GA aircraft, it allows me to make fine adjustments and hold an altitude easily! The PROBLEM is I think, because the trim is now assigned to a wheel its a manual control now, not a push button adjustment. So my theory is the J-41 can't automatically move that wheel in real life (that would be awesome lol) so it interprets the fact that the wheel isn't moving as pilot input, and disengages itself. Per the AOM for the J41: section G 8.11 Autopilot cut-out The autopilot will disengage if any of the following conditions exist: ... -Manual over-ride by the pilot beyond a point at which a servo clutch becomes disengaged. That's what I'm assuming, because the physical wheel is a analog control, the plane thinks I'm moving it (even though I'm not) and it cuts out. This seems to be confirmed by unmapping the trim controls, and then the ap engages just fine... So, my question, is there a way I can leave the trim mapped to that wheel and still get the autopilot to work in the J-41? Or am I looking at changing my control mapping every time I wish to switch from the J-41 to another aircraft? Thanks

Which new simulator for me?
Hi, With the Steam version of FSX on sale for a song now, I'm starting to wonder if it is time to retire my good old box edition. I'm one of the few who never had any real problems with FSX box, it seemed to always work well, and ran smoothly, even with add-on aircraft and Active Sky Next. But the reviews I'm reading say that the Steam edition is even better than the box version, and that P3D is amazing as well. If it was just a matter of switching base programs there would be no issue at all, but I have a lot of money in add-on aircraft. I don't know if all of them work with Steam edition for example, and I know that most will not work with P3D. Some of my fleet are very very ancient and I hate to see them go, but I understand if they must, like the Flight1 ATR and the Level D-767. I guess I'm asking for advice on what I should do as far as upgrading, keeping in mind all of payware aircraft (I have learned that ASN will work no matter what sim). Or should I just stay with my old dinosaur of FSX BOX edition? Or maybe say forget all my payware and just go to P3D (licensing arguments aside for now). How has your luck been with FSX BOX add-ons on Steam edition? I also have heard that if you can get a clean install of the steam edition on a PC that never had, or looks like it never had, a FSX install at all, that it will look exactly like the FSX Box version to installers, thereby making it easier for installers to work. I've also heard horror stories of having to trudge through registries and weird file locations to get all the FSX remnants out. So IF I do go to the Steam edition, is there a good guide somewhere that will tell me how to completely obliterate FSX Box? My Payware list (if it helps) ASN FSPassengers (this is almost a no go, if this don't work, it will be hard to convince me to buy it) A2A C-182 (pretty sure this one will work) Carenado F33A Carenado Baron B58 PMDG Beech 1900 PMDG J41 IRIS T-6A Texan 2 Flight1 ATR-72 IRIS f-15 IRIS EAP FeelThere E145, e135and the e-jets (175 and 195) Level D 767 Any advice would be appreciated.

"Not valid departure icao selection!" error message
I know the airport exists. If I search for the airport in the "search" tab of ASN, it finds it and gives me current conditions for it. But I cannot use it as a departure airport in the flight planner tool. The airport in question is KCPT if that helps.

How to use live weather mode
Dumb question I'm sure... Once I've selected live weather mode on ASN and launched the simulator, which weather settings in the FSX menu should I select to allow ASN to work correctly?

Carenado relationship with Flight1
Hi, I dont want to open up the proverbial can o' worms, but I noticed that some of Carenado's latest releases (including this one and the hawker) are not for sale on flight1's web site. Has the relationship soured? Or is it just a case of the products not being on there YET?

Fsx weather (temps at high altitude)
thanks for the advice I will look into ASN. My PC is fairly powerful, but does ASN use a lot of system resources?

Gray pointy thing sticking out of J41 nose in VC
I already turned of DX11 preview (or 10 or whatever it is) in the FSX menu because when it is on the runways look like they are having seizures lol. I will turn the icing off as well, thanks!

fuel planning J41
Id flown that route before and it is a 1.5 hour flight, in good weather (okay, in GREAT weather, as in FSX clear all weather theme). With the weather my speed was slower and my fuel burn was higher, so it took 2 hours. I just didn't know that it would be that much longer. The tutorial suggests having 800 lbs reserve, but is that only for that, relatively short, tutorial flight? Do airlines put more reserves, the longer the flight? (SO like 800 lbs for a 1 hour flight, but 1500 pounds extra for a 3 hour flight?). The rules in the tutorial obviously don't account for weather lol, but they also don't seem to account for payload. Isn't that a factor too? (Or is the difference only appreciable on large aircraft) From the responses it seems like there is not a set formula for weather or anything, just a company policy of you will need XXX lbs reserve, not counting alternate as first officer said above. In real life do pilots have to work these numbers out themselves or does whoever does flight planning for them tell them how much fuel to load? I will definitely check out fuelplanner.com. And thank you all for the advice!

Fsx weather (temps at high altitude)
hey guys First thanks for all the help on here. I've been spamming the forums and getting a lot of great help! However I find myself coming to the well again lol. It's a little to well known fact that fsx' weather is buggy as heck. One of the classic problems is ridiculous temperatures at high altitudes +30 degrees Celsius at fl250 for example. This of course causes a world of engine problems and "unfair" stalls. I realized though today as I was flying at 16000 feet in the j41, that I was getting just terrible climb performance, so I immediately looked at the sat. But the problem is, I'm not really sure what is unreasonable temps for that altitude. I want to say it was like 8 degrees Celsius? So what is an average range for that altitude? Even better is there a website, or resource that someone knows of where I can look up current RL METARS, for comparison? Thanks!

fuel planning J41
Hey guys I've read the tutorial (1200 lbs 1st hour, 1000 lbs. per hour after that, then 800 lbs reserve). This has worked fine for me until today. I ran into some weather at altitude today. It increased my flight time from 1.5 (normally for this route) hours to 2.0 hours. I had to eat into my reserves, and I got in trouble (FSPax lol) for not landing with enough fuel (29 mins of reserve instead of 45mins). At any rate my question is, when deciding how much fuel to put into the aircraft how does one account for weather like that? Is there a formula like x times headwind/ flight time or something? Or do pilots and airlines just add extra from the hip? Or is 800 lbs not enough reserves? Thanks for the help.

Gray pointy thing sticking out of J41 nose in VC
Some sort of find the center line assist tool lol? I got this today during a flight. I couldn't seem to get rid of it (I didn't try reloading as it was mid-flight and I was using FSPassengers. Anyone else seen this? Know how to get rid of it?

J41 pop-up panels
Maybe now they'll do it just to prove you wrong lol.

ILS and autopilot.
WELL... it looks like part of my problem is that I am forgetting to turn off yaw damper before I land (face palm) FO don't tell the chief pilot and I'll buy you a drink lol.

j41 engine noise
Well I have headphones at my cockpit/desk, but the engine sound is coming through them with everything else. May I should find a way to put the engine noise on my speakers and keep the other sounds in my phones for a more realistic, and sane, experience?
-
j41 engine noise
I'd like to know from someone with maybe some RL experience, or even just someone who knows more than me (so pretty much anyone lol). If the engine noise in the j41 is really as loud as in FSX? With all sound sliders at 50% (fsx default), it truly is deafening. I can't barely hear atc, and I can't hear fspassengers voices at all. I know I can't just move the engine slider down, but then I get that annoying clicking from the altimeter needle (which I can't seem to quiet with any slider), plus it doesn't seem realistic to just turn it down.

J41 pop-up panels
So on the J41, the FMS and the Autopilot controls are pop-ups, you click on them and get a little 2d version that moves with the VC camera. This is a good thing! These two instruments are useful and its nice to have them full time. Due to quirks of this aircraft, another gauge that I am constantly zooming in to look at (and therefore not looking out the windshield) is the EIS. The engines have to be watched carefully during all phases of flight (except cruise maybe). Of course you all know this so I am preaching to the choir. I submit, and would like to make a feature request, that the EIS panel should be a pop-up panel as well. This would be especially helpful during takeoff so pilots can see the numbers and still look out the windshield. Thanks

Has PMDG considered allowing customers free trials or just peeks at the manual?
I don't know how I missed that on the webpage, wow! That's exactly what I was asking for, thanks!

ILS and autopilot.
This is more of a general aviation question than a J41 specific one, but where better to find good sim pilots than PMDG customers? Ok, when I am flying ILS approaches (the last example was 35L at KDFW if that matters) the localizer seems to take me left of the center line. Now I don't know if it is actually doing the right thing, and from the time I disengage the AP until touchdown I drift slightly left, or if the ILS course heading is different in real life than FSX, or if I'm waiting to long to disengage autopilot so I can't correct (should I have to though?). Which leads to my first question. At what point on a ILS approach should the auto pilot be disengaged? 200 feet above touchdown? 100? as soon as runway is in sight? Second question... The speed cards in this aircraft are a fantastic feature. However, I find myself constantly adjusting the power levers trying to hold at exactly that magenta line, almost obsessing over it. So... At what point in the approach should the speed go from the approach speed (magenta) to the Vref speed (Cyan)? over threshold? 100 feet above the runway? Is it vital to hit those speeds exactly or is a few knots off acceptable? I twist my joystick (x52) to try to add right rudder, but I seem to get no reaction at all from the aircraft. Is landing on the centerline significantly harder without rudder pedals? Should I be concerned with hitting it exactly? Are there any tips for getting rudders to work without pedals? I know practice makes perfect, and my landings are safe (at least FSPassengers doesn't seem to have a problem with them lol), just not as good as I'd like. Thanks for any tips.
