    Apollo 13 @50

You can relive Apollo 13 in real time thanks to this very interesting and sophisticated app. https://apolloinrealtime.org/13/ by either starting at 1 minute prior to launch or doing it in real time; 50 years ago. I was at home watching the crew of Apollo 13 splashdown; and I'm still at home remembering it 50 years later. And if I'm fortunate to live long enough to witness our getting back to the Moon I'm hoping that I'll be home too!
  2. It's already happening near here for the past 48 hours in the James Bay area along the northern Québec/Ontario provincial border where only local and essential traffic is being allowed through. Major roads are blockaded by police. We don`t have the infrastructure and the services to support an influx of city southerners escaping COVID-19. Inter-provincial/territorial travel restrictions won't suffice. Most of our provinces and territories are larger than most countries in the world. We'll need to protect northern areas within the largest provinces.
  3. Indeed WAPO never reported that. With 104K+ cases and 1.7K casualties of COVID-19 in the US, the spreading of this disinformation is a symptom of a whole different illness. As for the leaks coming out of China: it`s no state secret: people have been dying in China for thousands of years and they`ll foreseeably continue to die, of all kinds of causes, in the future.
  4. Here`s a sneak peak into our near future... unless it's the trailer of the sequel. Wuhan begins to lift its lockdown. Let's watch and learn this time, eh? If it will have been too early there, it won`t be the time, everywhere. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-wuhan/chinas-wuhan-where-the-coronavirus-emerged-begins-to-lift-its-lockdown-idUSKBN21F0B9
  5. It`s not only in large capital cites: I live in a small northern and isolated town of 1000 souls in a mostly uninhabited part of Canada where the polar vortex, bears, coy-wolves, mosquitoes and little black flies are the usual suspects. But a few days ago a hairdresser returning from a vacation in central America met her boyfriend who flew in from Eastern Europe at CYYZ in Toronto. Neither isolated on their way back here, needing to make several stops for gas and food along the way. The hairdresser resumed cutting and washing hair in her tiny house the morning after their arrival; because she needed the cash to pay for the vacation she couldn`t reasonably afford to have and to support her penniless boyfriend who entered Canada on a tourist VISA. The social backlash against them was immediate; in a place where and when it`s -50C we are still warm towards one another. On a more positive note, aside for a few half-dozen chronic smokers who huddle outside to smoke together, I reckon only 0,10 % of us are doing the wrong things. It`s not a whole lot but it`s still too much in a little world where fate, to reprise Ernest K. Gann`s great title, is the hunter.
  6. An emergency room doctor in Elmhurst, Queens, New-York, gives a rare look inside a hospital at the center of the coronavirus pandemic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bE68xVXf8Kw
  7. I`m a great fan of hers too! She`s perhaps the only quantum gravity physicist who has the ovaries to do a music video in a library.
  8. ProPublica reporting that US doctors are stockpiling touted COVID-19 meds (chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine) for themselves and their families. I might be wrong but it seems to me that ProPublica is a reliable and reputable source. I have often enjoyed their collaboration with PBS; namely. But I'm no expert in the area of journalism in the US. If this story is indeed accurate; it`s disturbing as many will interpret it as a licence to serve themselves. source: https://www.propublica.org/
  9. Here`s some mind-blowing footage from Half-Life: Alyx the VR game that takes players back to Half-Life 2`s City 17: e
  10. Wow! You are so so lucky! I'm so gorgeous that women still can`t keep their hands off of me. Oh women are gonna be the death of me this time.
  11. Thanks to COVID-19 here are the unofficially leaked results for all of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympics: all the gold medalists will be at least two meters ahead of all the silver medalists who will themselves be at least two meters ahead of the bronze medalists. All equestrian events will be canceled, of course.
  12. It`s always been easier to predict how things are going to change than to foresee how they will continue. Our own ancient brains are designed to make us believe that we are better than we were yesterday; that we are better than we are today; and that we'll be better tomorrow.
  13. Let those who hurry towards death die slowly. The wise know that their hour shall never keep them waiting.
  14. So speaks the contrarian who`s not willing to make a few sacrifices.
  15. Wow... God bless all these poor souls and their loved ones.
  16. Well he said it tasted like dinosaur, of course.
  17. Well it turns out we all owe our infatuations to a 66.7 million years old duck/chicken like bird officially named Asteriornis maastrichtensis. after the Greek Titan goddess Asteria. But you can call her Wonderchicken . Oh, she was a tough little bird: she survived an asteroid impact which wiped out the dinosaurs. I dunno about her range and/or her ceiling; but she must have been a very pretty little thing, eh? source: https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/18/world/wonderchicken-fossil-modern-birds-scn/index.html
  18. ...or look at a lunar eclipse...
  19. Katherine Johnson had calculated the flight paths for America's first crewed space mission; worked on the first moon landing and later on for the space shuttle program. She knew our good Earth was round; she knew the Moon was round too and she figured out a way to get us around like we never had before. She finally gets to see the whole view. God bless all the unsung women involved in aerospace. By my calculations; they are all angels. https://www.npr.org/2020/02/24/517784975/katherine-johnson-nasa-mathematician-and-an-inspiration-for-hidden-figures-dies
  20. That`s one small concept for a man; one giant beep beep for man kind.

    777X first flight

Especially when you consider the length of the wings / wingtips. 212' 8" (64.8 meters) folded. 235' 5" (71.8 meters) extended. Interesting philosophy of it's cockpit layout; designed to allow 787 crews to be familiar with it too. Simmers could conceivably merge a 787 VC with a 777X external model. It'll need sounds and a 777-300ER .cfg.
  22. 01-22-06 LA v. Toronto He scored 81 points. So many ways, it hurt. Beautifully. A perfectly imperfect athlete for our times.
