Next MU-2 Update & Comment on AP Problems with the Lear
Yesterday, I reinstalled the latest version of the MU-2 and took it on an IFR cross country. The airplane flies pretty well. My main concern was that in cruise climb using IAS, it would not level smoothly at the selected altitude. I'm assuming this may be because the the ALT hold on the APCP is not working. On departure, I was happy to see that when the first step climb was entered and the ALTS was armed, the FD assumed the take off pitch. I was pleased to see this as the Lear 35A FD only arms for Heading. Regardless, the MU-2 departure went fine when arming the desired step climb altitude and arming the VS with the desired feet/min rate of climb. It also leveled off at that altitude properly. However, the ALTS and VS buttons do not switch over to the ALT button. You have to keep the ALTS and VS buttons lit. These do not work manually either. Also, if you click the VS off, the AP does not hold the selected Altitude. Otherwise, the MU-2 seems to fly fine. On decent, you have the same procedure. You have to just control the Altitude with the ALTS & VS buttons. They do go off after intercepting the LOC and arming the APP button when the GS is active. As long as I'm doing this let me make a comment on the Lear 35A too. It's nice to be able now to arm the FD before engaging the AP. However, I am unable to arm the FD to indicate the take off pitch. This should happen when you dial in your first step climb or by arming the TOGA on the Throttle. If someone can tell me how to arm the FD for pitch, I would appreciate it. Mike Nicholson

Another question about the GTN 750
Bert, I just have to Thank You for first coming up with the update for installing the GT750 in the Phenom 300, and all the help you have given me in my installing it. Just the changes in the Autopilot would have made the effort worthwhile. I was just able to set the 300 on a parking spot and open it up. What a beautiful sight to see the 750. I went ahead and opened it, and was very happy to see it WORKED! I'm really anxious to fly it, but unfortunately I need to get outside and have something to show for my day before my wife gets home from her Quilting Class. I was never so happy to have her tell me she would be gone all day. So, I learned a lot from this exercise, and again wish to offer my appreciation for your efforts and help. My only wish is Carenado would hire you to tweak their software before they publish it. Mike

Problems with V2.1
I installed v2.1 today, flew a local ILS, had problems, uninstalled the airplane, reinstalled it again, had same problems: 1. I set the pitch to 2000'/min and took off. At about 600 ' I engage the AP and clicked Hdg, Alt Sel & VS on the AP Control Panel. Turned the Hdg dial to come around and head for the OM. Intercepted the outbound LOC with the heading dial as using the BC takes you all over the place. Everything is working fine. Now we're coming up to our selected ALT and the Alt Sel shows Cap and the VS has shown ON since we engaged it. It levels at the desired altitude but it does not show the Alt Sel and VS lights switching to ALT. If you switch them off and press the ALT (Hold) button, it blinks amber and just switchs the Alt Sel (Cap) and VS back on. I swear it worked fine before the update. 2. I really don't see where the gear horn update has done anything. It seems worse to me. As I was slowing from 175 and flps 5 to 150 to intercept the LOC, the gear horn came on. I had to silence it. The horn sounded again at 150 on the LOC and one dot above the GS. So, I'm still trying to figure out when this horn is supposed to go off. Also, I would think if you silence it once during an approach, it should stay silenced. 3. Can't remember, didn't write a quick note. So number 1 is the question I would really like an answer for, Take care, Mike

Lear 35A Auto Pilot joystick Settings
I was reading thru all the past posts, and see that on 13 Dec I asked the same question. I didn't quite understand the answers, but it would appear the Lear auto pilot is programmed in a way that does not support Logitech controllers. What I don't understand is why do all my other buttons work and the keyboard says the AP Master is controlled by the keyboard Z. Also, everything works with the MU-2 AP and my Logitech controllers. So, I sure would appreciate some comments on this subject. Thanks, Mike

new version 2.1 questions
Tony, what I am trying to figure out is how did you get the 2.1 version so quick. Who did you purchase the product from? Are they always this quick? I look at the FS Pilot Shop everyday to see when they finally load it. Mike

Lear 35A Auto Pilot joystick Settings
I have flown the Lear 35A and MU-2 for around two weeks now and am quite satisfied with both. I use a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro Joystick and a G-13 Gaming Pad. On the MU-2, all my buttons worked as set. However, on the Lear everything works except the AP Master ON/OFF. Both controllers and keyboard are set to the Z key. When you press either Z key on both controllers or keyboard, all the AP Engage Light does is blink. The key folder reflects Z is the keyboard settings. Having to turn the AP ON/Off is an irritant without a copilot. Any advice is appreciated. Mike

Lear landing/taxi light issue
Well, I by chance I discovered the fix to my problem of the landing lights on all the time. I had had the Recognition Lites on and somehow this made the landing lites stay ON all the time. Turned off the Recog Lites, and the landing/taxi lites work as they should. As far as their brightness, they do seem a little too bright, but I'll tell you when a full scale Lear has it's landing lights ON, you sure can see it. Mike

Auto Pilot Engage/DisEngage Problem
I have a Logitech 3d Pro joystick and a Logitech gaming pad to control all my buttons. Just installed the 35A and everything works off one of these two devises except for the AP. When I press the Auto Pilot joystick button, I only get a brief flash from the AP Control Panel with no actual operation. I can engage the AP with the mouse without a lot of problem, but when you're approaching 200' and a 1/2 mile minimum; getting ready to go around it's a real inconvenience. Never had this problem before. I checked the key list and it uses the plain old Z for AP on and off. Any advice would be appreciated, Mike

Lear landing/taxi light issue
I just purchased the 35A two days ago and have started to fly it. My problem with the landing/taxi light issue is my Landing Lights are on all the time. On when in both the Taxi and Off positions. Is there an answer to this?

Installing FSX and FSX:SE Updates
Hi Kyle, My PMDG frustration level has somewhat increased since all these changes; changes that I thought wouldn't effect me since I am only FSX. Frustration with PMDG is something new as PMDG is about all I sim with and I'm used to virtually no Problems! I use the Ops Center and have installed all these SE, P3D & whatever they are called. Primarily because installing them was the only way I could get rid off my Notifications list. First ?: Can I ignore these updates since I am only FSX? I originally thought if I checked Ignore Update, they would disappear, but that does not seem to be the case. This morning, I tried to fly my J4100. I would select it into the FSX opening window, and as soon as I clicked Fly Now, FSX immediately closed, desktop-nothing. Finally gave up and pulled out a longer flight plan for my T7200. It seemed to open OK. Had problems with Pushback, was cleared to the Active, was Nr 2 behind a Baron and almost didn't get stopped. Radar Contact finally cleared the Baron & he took the active. I decided to move up to the ready line and discovered I had no brakes at all. Ran the Baron over and the only option at this point was to close out of FSX. So, my ? is: Do I have to do a fresh download from PMDG or can I just reinstall from my downloads folder as I save all these? I'm sure this has been a big hassle for you all; appreciate any advise. A Favorable Impression of the LR24B
Cody, As far as I remember, FSX does not support DX10. Leave the box unchecked. Mike

RAAS Pro Update Window
With the T7 SP1 update, I discovered this RAAS option in my PMDG setup FMC Display window. I enabled it and didn't care for it, or not care for it. However, I have suddenly started getting a warning window when ever I click to open FSX telling me that RAAS Pro needs to be updated. It has stopped working with my T7 which I could care less about, but I am sick and tired of the warning window and having to close it every time. I do see it is somehow Locked to the T7, but I get the window with just trying to open FSX. Would appreciate knowing how to get rid of this window and add on. Mike Nicholson

LJ24B and RealityXP Garmin
Vaughan, In reference to my favorable impression of the LR24B post, set forth a couple of threads below yours, I thought I had mentioned how I installed the RXP Garmin. I only fly VC, but with several monitors, I display popups set forth in the drop down menu. I just went to the RXP config box where all your FSX airplanes are listed and clicked to add the RXP gauge. That's all I did. I was not interested in installing it in the 24B panel as it would be too small for me to use. I simply open it from the drop down menu and drag it over to my right monitor and blow it up so I can see it. It works great. This is the only sim aircraft I am flying now without a Navigraph up datable FMS, but the RXP data base is much better than the old FSX GPS. Too bad that for the price Garmin gets for their sim GPS's, that they cannot be updated. Mike

A Favorable Impression of the LR24B
I like this little airplane. I don't understand the cold and dark startup, but the two ready to taxi downloads saved that irritant. It hand flies very nice, and once you get used to the Auto Pilot, it flies quite accurately to include the ILS. Speed control, as with all high performance aircraft, is important. You get a lot of simulation for the price, but I wish Lionheart had charged more and gone for a later date upgraded Lear model. The reason I say this is what do you do with a Lear. Other than checkouts and check rides in the local area, Lears are cross country birds. Due to the altitudes they fly at, they are always IFR cross countries. A Lear demands an FMS. The GPS furnished with the airplane is very basic and sooo out of date. It makes most approaches very difficult to execute. I found it easy to install my Reality XP GPSs. While there is no room on the panel to install these, I'm fortunate to sim with three 27" wide screens. They linked up to the Lear with no problem, and it's easy to control the GPS/Nav thru them. While you cannot update the Reality XP,s with Navagraph, their data base is fairly late, and with your approach plate you can do fine. Radar Contact is the rest of the answer to utilize this 24B as they control your descent. So, my congratulations to Lionheart on this great little airplane. My only recommendation is to upgrade Reality XP GPSs. Maybe Lionheart will go for an upgraded Lear 45 now. Last evening, I flew from KPHL to KBGR taking off at dusk. Never thought about it getting dark with little moon light. Discovered the cockpit lighting was great! Some of the best panel lighting I have seen in a long time. Take care, Mike Nicholson

White vs Magenta Air Speed Control?
No problems now. I revised my checklist for the sixth time and have it where I want it. This has been great to keep my busy while waiting for SP-1 for the T7. Looks like we're almost near getting it. I usually hand flew from TOD to the landing anyway. Even the thought of Auto Landings scares the dickens out of me. Mike

White vs Magenta Air Speed Control?
pcubine Are you saying above that the APPR/LAND controls the auto land. I just flew a cross county and the descent, approach and landing were normal and as I expected. Do you mean that if you are controlling the aircraft thru the FMS and press APPR/Land to intercept the LOC that you have selected the auto land approach and landing. I could see it was doing that, and I wanted white vs magenta indicators to get out of the auto land. I'm good to go now. Mike PS: For someone who is used to Boing aircraft, this is a big change.

White vs Magenta Air Speed Control?
Kevin, I had just figured out what I was doing wrong - you were right in suggesting there might be a conflict between the approach speed and the minimum speed the autopilot would allow the configuration. I flew a local and took off with no FMS contol set up. Departed KBOI with everything in the white, flew to the outer marker, did a procedure turn, intercepted the LOC inbound. Everything was fine until I couldn't reduce the airspeed on the auto throttle anymore (Since the FMS was inop,it didn't try to take over the controls, and I had time to figure out what was wrong. As soon as I went to the next lower flap setting, I was able to go to Vapp and Vref. Problem solved. Thanks, Mike.

White vs Magenta Air Speed Control?
Michael, I just reviewed the Tutorial flight again, and disregard I pressed the TO/APPR ley on the CDU. I pressed the APPR/LAND key on the FCP to arm the LOC capture. I see no reason why my air speed bug should change from white to magenta and the auto throttle take back FMS speed. As soon as I have breakfast I'll fire this puppy up and file another flight plan. Mike

White vs Magenta Air Speed Control?
I pressed the TO/APPR key to intercept and lock onto the LOC & later GS. Are you saying I don't need to do this? I had entered the approach and transition into the FMS. Mike It was the key on the Auto Pilot Control Panel. I don't have the sim open now, so I think that is what they call it. Mike

White vs Magenta Air Speed Control?
Exactly what I did. Please take another read at my topic. I was doing that, but as I approached the IAF, the speed dot changed to magenta (THRUST stayed white) but I had no throttle control). I My speed increased to 202 and I had to disengage the A/T to complete the ILS. Mike Nicholson

White vs Magenta Air Speed Control?
A week ago I purchased this MD11X for something to puzzle over while waiting for the T7 SP-1. It is somewhat of a change from Boeing aircraft. I've pretty well figured out everything except for one area which is still a little fuzzy. I always fly IFR cross country with Radar Contact. I've got the TO, Clb and Enroute procedures down, but after just finishing my third flight, I am still having confusion with the speed settings during the Approach phase. From Cruise ALT, I set my decent to white with the VS. From the last way point to the ILS LOC I switch to white and use HDG to set up the LOC intercept. I normally take over A/T setting of the Air Speed around FL240. I had pressed the TO/APPR key, and as I approached the IAF, the speed dot on the PDF changed from white to magenta and my air speed was increased by the A/T although Thrust stayed white. I could not roll back the speed as I wanted. Throttles were at idle. I finally disengaged the A/T, and played with the throttles the rest of the approach. I would like to be able to control air speed all the way - disengaging the A/T between a 1000 and 500 AGL. Any advise would be appreciated. Mike Nicholson

Muting ILS Morse Code Identification Audio
John, I really appreciate your answer. I am aware of the settings you set forth above. I guess over the years, I just got used to hearing the marker beacons and have always sort of viewed them as my safety blanket. This was especially true in years ago, with no FMC, and the marker beacon only had blinking lights and these were not really in your direct scan during an approach. I have not had time this morning to fly the T7 but it really seems that I had the audio light lit and would hear the marker beacons, but not the freg morse code identifiers. My PMDG 447, 737NGX and J4100 all allow an approach with just the marker beacons sounding off. I do thank you and am going to continue to play with this. Mike

Muting ILS Morse Code Identification Audio
I hate to ask this question in public, but I have given up trying to find the answer in my documentation. Plus, I never had this problem until I had to reinstall my T7 last week. My question is this? How do I turn off the ILS freq identification morse code audio? It is driving me crazy listening to it. As soon as I press APP, I get it. I have looked every where I can think of in the manuals, the FMC set up and the audio panels with no luck. If anyone can point me in the right direction here, I would be great ful. Thanks, Mike Nicholson

Can Default FSX KingAir 350 Panel Texture be Changed?
I have been looking for a King Air for some time now, and finally downloaded a B200 which turned into a disappointment. Then I got to looking at these Friendly Panel downloads and tried their Collins Pro Line 21 in the default King Air 350. It has turned out to be a really good compromise. While I love the panel, the rest of the cockpit is pretty much a blob of light battleship gray. I'm wondering if there is a way to change some of the texture colors? Any suggestions are appreciated. Mike
