Wide screen with PMDG NGX
For those experiencing a distorted view with the WideViewAspect=True you may find it neccesary or beneficial to adjust your zoom level. ;)

Freezes? CTDs? Try this.
Tim, It may just be a case of you having lessen the load on your PC - do you have on-board sound or a dedicated sound-card?

Wide screen with PMDG NGX
Have you tried setting the following in the fsx.cfg file?... Look in the [Display] section and set the following... WideViewAspect=True I believe this tell FSX you are using a wide-screen display and should stop the eliptical effect you are experiencing?

Fixed CTD's and Freezes
Yup, same here. Atfer seeing an increase in CTD's after installing HF3 I uninstalled the NGX and re-installed using the updated full version download that includes HF3. At first I thought that had solved it, but now it seems to be pure luck is I actually manage to complete a flight without a CTD. It's a great shame because despite being a GA flier at heart I have been enjoying the experience of setting up the FMC and flying a tube, but with all too frequent crashes it's becoming a little tiring. Seeing the aircraft correctly lined up from my flight plan on finals and then performing a satisfying landing is a good buzz, but for a CTD to occur just 20-30 miles from your destination just ruins the whole point of the flight. :(

Fixed CTD's and Freezes
I have to say that before trying HF3 I don't recall any major problems with CTD, but now I think myself lucky if I am able to complete a flight. Nothing more frustrating than a CTD after a good 1 hour+ flight when you are decending towards your destination. Wish I had stuck with the original or one of the earlier HF's that seem to work, oh well.

Perpetual Crash Loading NGX with Update 2922
I experience exactly the same problem. No matter what I do, unless I load the game enviroment at least once during an FSX session before attempting to load the NGX then FSX will fail after I hit the fly now button. To elaborate... I run FSX. Load the NGX via free-flight menu. Hit the Fly Now button. Screen goes black and white progress window pops up. Progress remains at 0% until FSX finally crashes... Problem Event Name: APPCRASHApplication Name: fsx.exeApplication Version: 10.0.61637.0Application Timestamp: 46fadb14Fault Module Name: PMDG_737NGX.DLLFault Module Version: 1.0.0.0Fault Module Timestamp: 4e4a3aefException Code: c0000005Exception Offset: 00154c6bOS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.1Locale ID: 2057 If I load the game enviroment first with a default plane and then load the NGX via the menu it will work fine.If I load the game enviroment first with a default plane, exit back to the FSX front end load the NGX and hit the Fly Now button it will also work. @ Robin - Is this how you experience the crash? @Andreas - Just tried your fix it did not work for me sadly - thank all the same though!

No initializing at start.
Hello Iain, I'm guessing you have already tried this but worth a shot anyway... Does it make any difference if you start the flight with a default aircraft and then switch to the NGX once in the game enviroment? I have to load the game enviroment in each session of using FSX before I can load the NGX otherwise it will without fail cause FSX to CTD. I can do this by either starting at my preferred location with a default aircraft (usually the aircreation microlight) and then using the menus from within the game enviroment to switch to the NGX, or providing I have all ready been into the game enviroment during an FSX session I can then load the NGX from the FSX front end and start the free flight from there. Neither of these seems to cause me any problems with the aircraft, in fact these are the only ways I can sucessfully get the aircraft to work.

My liveries are gone after HotFix from Aug. 16
I just had a thought - perhaps the Livery Manager would be better not to list the default (and requred) paints so they cannot be removed in error? :)

Livery and Livery Manager issues - how to resolve
Hi Thunderbird, I don't think you would experience any problems with the folder removed other than probably some missing textures on certain paints, so simply putting the texture.900 folder back where it came from should not be a problem IMO. HTH. :)

Livery and Livery Manager issues - how to resolve
Erm, does the same not also apply to the texture folder texture.900 inside the folder PMDG 737-900NGX ? I believe this is also a default texture folder, i.e. not part of a livery download?

Problem with the Livery Manager
Rainer, I think my "solution" only really works if you use the CTRL key to select multiple .ptp livery files and install them in one go. I would try deleting any addition texture files from the 800WL folder, create a folder with all the .ptp files you want to install for that variant and then use the livery manager to add ALL of the paints you want in one hit. It might be best also to restore the backup aircraft.cfg first or at least edit the current one so it only has the first and default PMDG texture referenced. HTH.

Livery Manager problem
Hi, If you are still having problems try reading my workaround in this thread, post #25... http://forum.avsim.net/topic/341643-problem-with-the-livery-manager/

Problem with the Livery Manager
Jack, Hey no problem I'm a bit tetchy ATM, been having a stressful time of it workwise lately so on a similar note I hope my response did not come across abrubtly.Good to hear this has work for you as well, hopefully PMDG will fix the problems with the manager in due course anyway. Having read a few other posts concerning the Livery Manager I have a feeling that as soon as you try to add more liveries that it will again wipe out those that already exist. If this happens I would be inclined to then manually delete the texture folders and then re-install all the required liveries over again (including the new ones you want to add) by using the method I posted. A bit of a faff, but I believe it's a workable solution without having to manually add the aircraft entries to the aircraft.cfg file.

Problem with the Livery Manager
Jack, I have only posted how I managed to get the liveries to install for me so other who are keen to install additional liveries can give it a shot. I'm not suggesting there is not a problem with the Livery Manager but the above worked for me. :)

Problem with the Livery Manager
Youe need to select (click on to high-light) one of the four options under "Installed Aircraft Variants" for the "Select Livery Button" to work... please try that and post back.

Problem with the Livery Manager
Well after a number of attempts I found a way to get the livery manager to work... 1. I created a folder for each model type so 800WL for the 800 Winglet paints.2. Extract and copy all the 800WL .ptp files into the above folder.3. Set the "read only" protection tick-box for the aircraft.cfg to unticked.4. Located the Livery Manager directly in the FSX folder structure.5. Right click the Livery Manager and selected the option to "run as administrator"6. High lighted the option 800NGX WL and click the "select livery to install button" Right now here comes what I think may be quite an important factor as this seemed to be the crucial point to get this to work... 7. Hold down the ctrl keyboard button and select each of the .ptp livery files in turn. NOTE: Selecting the first livery file, holding shift and then selecting the last file to select all the files does apparently not seem to work! 8. Finally select the "Open" button and the livery manager should install the liveries and populate the "Installed Liveries" list with the installed paints. Just as a note... I first achieved this with the 900 WL paints. I then tried to install the 800 WL paints, but the difference being that for the 900 WL paints I used the CTRL key and selected each file in turn, but with the 800 WL files I tried using the shift key - this is when I found it seems using the shift key does not work! When I found this I quit the livery manager, deleted all the additional 800 WL texture folders manually before running the Livery Manager again (as Admin) and the installed the Liveries using the CTRL key method. If you try the above and find it works for you please do post back here to confirm this is the case so other people will know how to work around the problem. ;)

New Jostick Required - Recommendations?
I had seen that on the US Logitech website, but it looks like it will be very expensive ($300) and also unavailable ATM anyway. The other downside is tat I really need a new stick right now, broke the shaft on the Saitek.Forgetting the cost can you think of any FF sticks I could at least consider/look into? Or for that matyter do you know of any decent UK places to buy? :(

New Jostick Required - Recommendations?
As the thread title says really... I'm in need of a new joystick after having broken my Saitek Cyborg evo Force Feedback. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find a vendor in the UK that actually has these anymore, so it looks like a direct replacement is out of the window.Ideally I'd like something similar and do quite like having FF, I don't want to pay the earth really either so something like the X52 (I know it does not have FF) might be a bit OTT. I have looked at the Logitech equivalent to the Cyborg, but to be honest I'm not that impressed by it and any customer reviews I have read have not been that favourable. On a similar note, any suggestions for good/reputable resellers in the UK for a new joystick would also be much appreciated. Thanks in advance for your suggestions. :(

Scenery Add-On Tyes - What does what?
Hi Bob,Doh! I wish I knew that REX was about to be updated. :( As for FsGenesis, I have since managed to loo at the website, but I'm really not finding it easy to actually identify the product in question? I'm assuming this would be the minimum, or is it best to go for the bundle?..http://www.fsgenesis.com/Merchant2/merchan...tegory_Code=WRXBundle...http://www.fsgenesis.com/Merchant2/merchan...amp;FootSteps=1And yes, at this rate I will have spent a whole pile of money on FSX! :(

Scenery Add-On Tyes - What does what?
Thanks very much for the pointers. I have since downloaded and installed the following, but may add more... GEX - USA/Canada REX - Clouds and water effects are good, but finding the weather engine quite weak. UTX - USA UTX - Canada (waiting to be installed/paid for) UTX - Europe (waiting to be installed/paid for) As I said I'm finding REX a bit weak when it comes to weather effects. I was hoping for example to create a big thunder storm, but all I could seem to get it to do was give me overcast/foggy skies with broken cloud and if I was luck a little rain. I've been thinking of getting ASA to beef it up in this respect but to be honest I'm not sure I understand how ASA woudl utilise the clouds etc. from REX? Before REX and when using the built in weather system in FSX I would pretty much always leave the weather set to realtime updates every 15 minutes.I've also been considering FsPassengers to give me more to actually do once I'm actually using FSX, at first I thought it might be a bit silly, but on reflection it might bring a bit of a "game" element to FSX. I'm not one for all-out needing or wanting to know what each button and switch is for but I do enjoy flying different aircraft in varying locations, I'm hoping FsPassengers would bring a new element to the sim for me.Beyond this I've also been looking at FsGenisis, although unfortunately I can't seem to get their website to work ATM, but am I right in saying it basically alters the "shape" of the virtual world's surface to make it more realistic?I should really stop, but I'm also considering the UTX equivalent for Australia (the name escapes me right now) and possibly the Aerosoft F16! I'm on a bit of a spending spree where FSX is concerned ATM - can you tell! :( Of course, if anyone has any views on the items I am considering I'd be more than happy to hear your views. :(

Scenery Add-On Tyes - What does what?
Thanks for the reply Bob.I have naturally seen a number of these products mentioned in various threads, but with such a bewildering list of add-ons I've been finding it a bit difficult to group the various products into categories, i.e. which of these are effectively doing the same thing, but created by different companies. For example GEX and UTX, are they equivalent products? I thought it this thread might prove useful for other people like myself who are fairly new to FSX. Once I know what product does what and what other products are for the same purpose, then I'd be more sucessful in determining which products I should possibly buy with a view to them giving me the most comprehensive coverage of improvement within the game. :( :(

Scenery Add-On Tyes - What does what?
Hi,To date most of the changes I have made to FSX has been to buy the Acceleration expansion and download re-paint for existing aircraft. I have tried a number of free downloadable aircraft, but most of it has left me a little under-whelmed, albetit very impressed by peoples efforts - so hats off to those people, please keep at it! I have recently started looking more into retail/payware add-ons and recently purchased the CaptainSim C130, which is very good.Anyway, I'm also interested in payware options for add-ons that will improve the visual appearance of the virtual world but to be honest there seems to be so may different products out there that I have become rather lost and confused as to what products offer what kind of improvements and at what cost.So my questions are... What kinds of add-ons are there for improving the appearance of the virtual world in FSX (i.e. replacement textures etc.)? What benefits or limitations does each type of add-on have? Are there any widely accepted add-ons that are regarded as must have or well worth having within the FSX community? Are there any particular downsides to any of the add-ons, e.g. do they hit performance badly? Ideally what I want from scenery type add-ons is to... Improve upon the realistic appearance of the virual worlds surface. More realistic looking landscapes and cities, e.g. natural land surfaces looking more realistic and man-made structures like roads etc. being more accurately placed etc. I tend to use realistic weather whenever I fly in FSX, but find the weather effects to seem a little weak, for example even when flying in a thunder storm the storm always feels kind of remote if that makes sense. Obviously I would not like to reduce frame rates drastically, so any add-on needs to have a good benefit against cost of performance. Likewise I'd like to use cost effective add-ons, scenery for specfic airports seems like it could get rather expensive? I have the following system... Processor: Intel Quad Core 2 Q9550 (over clocked to 3.4 Ghz) Motherboard: Asus P5Q Deluxe Memory: 4Gb DDR GFX Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280 Monitor: Samsung SyncMaster 226BW (running at native resolution of 1680 X 1050) Sound Card: Creative X-Fi Audio Processor (WDM) OS: Vista Home Premium (SP2) Game: FSX Deluxe edition with Accleration Pack. Many thanks for any replies I receive. :(
