  1. Back when I went to UNI we had a Lufthansa A320 Family level d simulator. Hydraulics didn't work but everything else did. We'd give tours to the local elementary schools to get them interested in aviation. I got to watch 2 classes of 7 year old kids land an A320 at Sky Harbor with no prior training on their first attempt. Most failed. Many landed just fine. A lot of flying is about what you know, not necessarily what you do. That's why most FTD's don't care about the aerodynamic realism as much as the ability to practice procedures. A cardboard cutout of the cockpit is more important than a stick and rudder. A lot of PC pilots wouldn't believe it though.
  2. I imagine real world pilots also "don't understand why they are climbing at 10,000fpm while nose down." Maybe if they encountered it more as kids on their home sim it might save a life or two a decade down the line.
  3. This is the only aviation related forum I'm active on. I do lurk on the PMDG, FSlabs, and Aerosoft forums though. They're all very... unwelcoming to new gamers, especially those who have poor english or ask a question that have been answered more than once. God help you if you mention a competitor. They all make amazing products, though, so I still buy from each, I just don't post on their forums. For comparison, most communities view our AVSIM forum as a hostile and toxic community full of old men who complain about undulated runways and tree sizes. I'm not sure they're wrong. 😂
  4. You've got fantastic memory! I remember there were long threads and a lot of fighting about the Ariane, mostly about the audacity of the pricing model. I was a kid back then so $100 must've seemed like $600 to me haha And yeah, the ifly 737 was smooth as silk. I flew it a dozen times even after buying the NGX. Good times.
  5. Anyone remember that "study level" 737 NG for FSX that had like a $600 price tag and the devs were super secretive? Ariane I think? PMDG prevailed with a better product for a lower price. Theres no more Ariana (sp) 737. 😉
  6. Just so we're all having a healthy discussion, without misinterpretation, Anden never used the word "everyone".
  7. When FlyTheMaddog releases their MD-80 give it a shot. It's a pretty busy operation. I think there's a Fokker coming out that looks to be some busy old school flying with INS navigation and rudimentary AP. If you still fly P3D, you could also give the Majestic Sim Q400 a shot. Quick 30 minute flights into small fields with button pressing the whole way; Bonus points if you fly it in Alaska. I'm just saying, a lot of GA aircraft (all?) are actually easier to fly than a lot of the airliners out there, and some let you do some real unforgivable white knuckle approaches.
  8. So I'm contemplating a complete upgrade. I noticed you have the 10900K. Is a 11900K worth the extra few bucks? Right now I'm thinking about buying a: GPU: Gigabyte RTX 3080 CPU: Intel i9 11900K (3.5Ghz) MOBO: ASUS ROG Maximus XIII Hero RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro 2X34GB | DDR4 3200 I used newegg to find the bits and pieces. They don't even have a 3080 Ti or 3090 😕
  9. Uh, Rob, you have an Nvidia 3080. I mean if you're gonna pay $1,000 over the MSRP for a GPU I feel like an extra $80 for a study level sim isn't farfetched lol. No offense buddy just poking fun.
  10. Right? Look at this: Look at the ribbing on the skin at the center left of the image. I mean this is a gorgeous model. I have never wanted to buy an addon more than I do now.
  11. The question is more of a question of where we draw the line on realism. MSFS 2030 may well allow devs to model full damage models where a 20* bank on landing will have your engine flatten and wingtips shear off. You might have the Concorde, or any airframe, stretch in flight from thermal heating. There is a desire - an allure - to playing sandbox with our World. Where should we stop? I think the answer is different for everybody.
  12. I feel like PMDG internally regrets this move. They'd probably feel way more comfortable pricing the 737 in the $60 to $80 mark for MSFS, but have no way of doing that now because they funded initial development with there P3D prices. Complete conjecture / assumption but figured I'd share it.
  13. Thanks Bob. Spending $800 on a 9900K is probably my cheapest option to squeeze a few more frames. At HIGH I can VSYNC lock to 30 FPS in the storm weather preset, while panning in a circle. It's only Ultra where I dropping down to 14 during the panning, and 24 when just looking ahead. Dev mode is telling me my CPU mainthread is the bottleneck, so if I can squeeze the extra 6fps out of the 9900 to hold 30 while looking ahead / flying, I'm thinking of going for it. Is the 10900K a huge leap ahead for you? If I upgrade mobo's I'd just build a new PC at that point, so it would have to be worth the $$$. (60FPS in ULTRA)
  14. If you haven't seen it, take a look. This is hands down the most detailed aircraft model you'll find outside of DCS. It looks like the ultimate passion project of a bunch of experienced airplane nerds.
  15. Yeah, It looks like I can only update to an i9-9900K. What a bummer! I looked at my reciepts and I paid $800 for this GTX 1080 TI back in June 2018. A 3080 TI is averaging $1,700! I don't overclock no. I had a lot of issues getting this system to boot and once I found the right settings I stopped touching them. It was my first build since I was a kid and I'm too far out of the loop to get back into the grove of confidently changing voltages and drivers and settings. I don't even know what kind of socket I have on my MOBO, haha. Thanks for confirming my fears though. I was hoping I could just pop in a new i9-11900K and call it a day until I could upgrade to a 3080, but it won't be that easy. I have a huge 4k screen; I tried changing the render scale below 100 at 4k but I actually notice the difference in sharpness on the cockpit instruments. It's fuzzy. Maybe I'll lower the render scaling and just sit further back from the screen, lol. Everyone on the MSFS forums has been saying make sure HT is on along with "gaming mode" for W10.
  16. So I built a PC back in June of 18 and it's showing its age. Here's what I have: CPU: Intel Core i7-8700K (3.70 Ghz) RAM: 32 GB RAM 4X8FG DDR4 3200 GPU: Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti MOBO: ASUS MAXIMUS X HERO PSU: EVGA SUPERNOVA 1000W G3 I can run 4K ULTRA on MSFS and get 14-30 fps depending, with 24 avg, with SU5. I'm limited by main-thread so I want to start there. (I've given up hope on ever updating my GPU) I don't know if I can upgrade my CPU without needing to upgrade my MOBO, and if I have to upgrade that do I need to update my RAM as well? I guess what I'm asking is, now that I'm out of the loop, what would you do to get those juicy frames in MSFS 2020? My budget is $1k for this upgrade. Thanks for any advice!
  17. Nice review! That attitude indicator is actually pretty useful if you just imagine it's facing the tail of the airplane and not the nose. 🤣
  18. I think the vote is for more control of how the function works when ON. So that the AI pilot only calls for pushback when you're ready for it, instead of immediately.
  19. If you let the AI handle comms, they'll ask for pushback when the avionics are on, or APU in the big jets. It's designed this way so that when the AI is pilot flying, it can push back off the gate.
  20. When Aamir asked around for how much a study level sim would cost, he didn't mention anything about how much a yearly sub should cost. It's all the evidence we have on the subject of cost, for now. (Unless @Aamirwants to explicitly shoot down the possibility of subs in this thread right now.)
  21. Hard to make a hobby out of a job. I'm sure no one has the energy to fly tube-liners after you just took a 2 hour extension to fly home, dodging T-Cells and dealing with an exhausted crew, all to not even add a minute above your monthly guarantee anyway. Wooooh I don't miss it haha.
  22. No need, the confirmation is 6 posts above your own.
