  1. I'm adding my 2 cents as all of you are testing. I did a flight today from KDFW to KLFT - definitely slows are completely gone! But, almost half way through the trip, I checked the arrival METAR on the Internet for KLFT and it was 010 @ 4. At 80 miles out, METAR was 030 @ 7. RC ATIS at 70 miles out gave me 160 @ 6 and RWY 22L in use. At 40 miles out, RC atis was exactly the same (160 @ 6), and approach told me to expect RWY 22L (ILS rwy), and that's where I landed (winds reported by approach on final was the same 160 @ 6.) Upon landing, I checked ASE METAR and it was 030 @ 7, exactly what the METAR was 80 miles out, but from 70 miles out through landing RC Atis and approach reported 160 @ 6. I'm not sure if this head wind component (7 kts) is enough to force to use RWY 4L or 4R (ILS), but the winds should have been somewhat similar to 030 @ 7 in my opinion.I'm using ASE SP2 B642, FSUIPC 4.651 and: Dynamic Rate Change = 50% Automatic Downloads = 15 mins Force Dest Wx Zone Force Hight Priority Processes DWC on Create Addt'l Weather Enhounce Route Cov Spawning at 41 nm on ASE. I'm going to try a few flights in the next days with the changes some of you have outlined (increasing spawn area, decrease dynamic rate of change), as I'm very interested in following this thread. Thanks,
  2. Jonathan:I'll offer a little story that happened to me recently in the hopes that it may help you. I was having the same problem, and I was wondering what the heck had happened, because initially RC4 worked well with the recent upgrades in both ASE and FSUIPC. I knew I had the latest FSUIPC version, but unbeknownst to me, after installing a couple of new aircraft from a developer last week, my FSUIPC was overwritten and an older version was installed. After the errors I was having with the weather, I finally went into FSUIPC and ensured the version I had, and that's when I found out about the older version. I know it sounds too simplistic, as it seems that you have double checked everything, but you never know and wanted to throw it out there :(
  3. Thanks JD for your reply. I use the integrated sound from the motherboard. I do have an external sound card (M-Audio, for recording purposes), and I may use that one again. I never had this issue back when I used the external audio device, but I upgraded my system to Windows 7 several months ago, and for some reason didn't use the external audio device. I'll try it as well as check the sound settings, as you suggest, and report back. Thanks,Forgot to add: yes, I do hear FSX sounds.
  4. I have a similar problem to this thread, so instead of creating a new one, I'm adding onto this one. I've also searched this forum for answers, but I haven't found any specific fixes that may help. My problem is similar, but in my case, I get most announcements with voice, but only a few don't have voice, and as the original writer of this thread said, I get only the text to reply to whatever was said. This happens almost in every flight, but not in all flights (a few are perfectly normal.) It happens not only when I'm on the ground, when FPS may be in the teens in some heavy spots, but also in the air, when FPS are a solid 26. Frames are locked. FSUIPC is payware, and the rest of my rig is on my sig. This happens not only when I use ASE, but also when I use FSXs native weather generation. When I use ASE (latest build SP2), I use DWC "on" with the latest FSUIPC version.Display Text is uncheckedInteract with AI is checkedAI Chatter is checked (Pre-Recorded unchecked)Tune on Contact is checkedPlay Pilot Wav is checkedIt's really weird, as it's not consistent, so I haven't found the culprit of this issue. 5. Just speechless - great job and can't wait on the soon release.David Bolanos
  6. I seem to have found out what was causing the problem - I tried another flight, from KMIA to KATL, and had the same issue with the captain's FMC. Even though nothing was showing on the scratchpad, I pressed CLR several times out of frustration, and this "cleared" whatever was stopping me from allowing it to move onto the LAT REV page. I then tried the advanced Tutorial, and when I reached the FMC KORD (LSK) to go to LAT REV, I pressed the CLR button a couple of times, and then it works - using the captain's FMC.There is nothing visible on the scratchpad, as I said, but perhaps there is a "ghost" writing there - pressing CLR eliminates whatever is there, and solves it.Thanks for your help,David
  7. Thanks Dan. I just installed the latest Airac from Navigraph, and I still get the same error. Here's one I don't understand: after clicking several times the LSK with the Captain's side FMC, I tried the FOs FMC, and it works each and every time! When I click the LSK of KORD, it takes me correctly to the LAT REV page. If I use the Captain's FMC, it will not work (I get "Not allowed"), at least for this flight. Tutorial 1 gave me no problems, however.I also tried creating a flight using FSBuild, same airports KORD to KJFK, all with very similar variables as the advanced tutorial. Initially, I had the same problem with the FMC ("not allowed"), but after clicking the LSK 2 or 3 times using the Captain's FMC, it finally went through to the LAT REV page. I have no idea what's going on or what may be causing this, since it works with the FOs FMC. I'll keep testing other flights, but at least I have a way around it. It doesn't seem like anyone else has encountered this issue. Thanks,David
  8. Hi there. Need someone's help with this one, as I've searched the forum, but this specific problem doesn't come up.I've done Tutorial 1, and I'm now on Tutorial 2 (Advanced). My system and addon specs are in my sig. I've positioned the different files as instructed, and I don't have FSDT airports. My addons are also on my sig (GEX, UTX, etc.)Here's my problem: when I reach the FMC section where I need to enter the SID and runway for KORD, I hit a snag. When I press the LSK to select KORD to take me to the LAT REV page, I get a "Not allowed". It won't let me get to the LAT REV page. I have restarted the saved flight many times, using different scenarios (straight from the loading page of FSX, and starting a default plane, and then loading it.) I also load the panel state for the flight after loading the flight.I've also gone back to Tutorial 1 to see if I missed any steps, but I haven't. IRS are aligning correctly, fuel is pumping, but FMC just won't allow me to go into KORD LAT REV page to select the SID and RWY. Please help, as I'm stuck. Thanks,David Bolanos
  9. Awesome post, and it's neat to read of so many engineers and musicians, and to read about everyone's backgrounds. I'm a Mechanical Engineer, and work in the commercial refrigeration industry managing sales for the Latin American and Caribbean region - I get to fly (as a passenger) to many countries in this region (and also the USA), and then sometimes repeat many of these flights in FSX when I come back home. I also grew up in a farm (coffee) in Central America, and came to Miami, Florida when I was 13. I've had two passions since I can remember, flying and music. I'm not a pilot, but plan to get my private license in the near future, although I have been hooked on PC flying since the first flight simulator came out in the early '80s.I am also a musician (lead vocals and bass), and write and record my own music on the side...genre is Spanish rock (www.uniongris.com) - you are welcome to visit our webpage. Anyway, it's nice to put names to faces, and to read your life stories.Happy wishes to all,David Bolanos
  10. It's not just with the LevelD - in my case it was happening with all the 3rd party complex planes I own (737PIC, PMDG, etc.) Never tried with a default plane, since I don't really use them. I'm just mystified why FSAutostart, which is just a utility, would cause a conflict, but it does somehow. If I'm opening a saved flight, I just don't use FSA. BTW: you can create your own default "saved" flight - mine is with the default Cessna 172, clear weather, at my home municipal airport. This is the first thing I load, before going to the more complex planes.
  11. Lee:I may not be able to help fully, but I notice that you are loading your saved flight using FSX's loading function, and then reload the "same" flight with RC4. I've never loaded it like that, since it's not what RC4's manual recommends, if I recall correctly. RC4 calls for loading the flight using their own loading function. What I do is load my default opening FSX flight, which is the default Cessna 172 at my home airport (I've read in many posts that loading a default FSX plane prior to loading a 3rd party complex addon is almost a requirement to avoid potential odd things happening.) Once everything loads, I open RC4 and load the saved flight using only RC4. It does take a while, like you are experiencing, and that loads every aspect of the saved flight. I know you don't have FSAutostart (FSA), but try the way I outline above and see if it works. As long as I don't use FSA, mine is loading correctly all the time.Regards,David
  12. Ron:Thank you for your reply. I had tried all the keys you printed, and checked the keyboard under RC4, but everything was okay, and still had the problem. I always load the default flight (Cessna), which is with a default plane and then load the RC flight. I have added loading the 3rd party a/c I'm using in the saved flight after I load the default flight to the process (then load the flight with RC4.) I tried other options today as well, and in one of them I did not use FSAutostart, which I normally use to eliminate unwanted Windows services while I fly. This solved it! I don't know why using FSAutoStart is creating problems when loading a flight with RC4, since all it does is eliminate services, but I have loaded 3 flights without it and I get the 2D panel. I always save my flights in the 2D panel, not in the VC. So, for now, it is solved, although I'm puzzled by FSAutoStart. I will try stopping services manually, and try other flights. I will also try different settings under FSAutostart to see if any changes helps, and will try using FSAutostart and loading a saved flight under FSX (not using RC4). Will add comments if I find something odd/different after trying different scenarios. Thanks,David
  13. Hi there. I have a curious problem when loading saved flights. For most payware a/c, when I save a flight and reload it, I can only use the virtual cockpit, because the 2D cockpit doesn't show up. If I press F10 or any keys to go the 2D cockpit, the 2D cockpit is not visible. What I get is half the screen is the scenery and half the screen is black (where the cockpit should be.) I don't mind using the VC, since it's mostly what I use, but for some functions, I do use the 2D cockpit. I searched the forum and could not find anything like this issue I'm having. Your help is greatly appreciated. 14. Thanks Konrad. That's what I'll do - I have Ccleaner. I'll make copies of my logbook as well as the configuration files I have. Although the sim is flying perfectly, and would not have touched it otherwise, the fact that newer FSX aircraft (PMDG J41) are only being made for SP2 caught up with my installation, hence the decision to add SP2 (bought the new HDD to go along with the re-install.) At some point, I would've been forced to install SP2.Thx,David
  15. Thank you Kensei and I'm sorry for not being clearer. I guess it was late, and I had just spent several hours reading posts, so it shows how dazed I was :( Yes, the main question is whether I should reinstall FSX and addons given that I want to add SP2, and in reading NickN's procedure it wouldn't be the best or most efficient way to ensure a proper install. FSX-SP1 is in a partition right now, but I also have other programs installed there (non-simming programs), so changing the drive letter would also affect all other programs that share that partition. I have GEX on the FSX partition, and X Graphics on another partition.About a year ago, I tried to install SP2, but I got the error that I mentioned on my original thread (about requiring the "English" version of the software), and since I am getting the new drive, I thought I would reinstall everything to ensure SP2's correct installation. If there is a way I can do this without reinstalling everything, and ensuring SP2 will be installed correctly, then I am open to any suggestions. Thanks,David
  16. Hello fellow simmers - hope that I'm posting this in the right forum. I've just spent the last three to four hours going over many, many posts on this topic through a search, and need the help of some of you to confirm that I am using the best option possible for this reinstall or move. I've gotten bits and pieces from many, many posts, but I could not find one that definitely eased my doubts. I apologize if I did not see this on much older posts.FSX runs very, very nice in my system, using Nick's tweaks, and after overclocking my E8400. It runs on a separate partition from the OS (I have a total of four partitions.) The opportunity to purchase new addons that require SP2 (that I don't have installed) has urged me to install SP2 and move FSX to a new hard drive I'm getting in a few days. I own LVLD 767, Wilco 737PIC, FSUIPC, X Graphics, GEX, and a couple of Carenado prop planes.I once tried installing SP2, although back then I had not come across Nick's installation guide, and I was getting the error "Microsoft Flight Simulator X Service Pack 2 requires the English version of Flight Simulator X", which I have (I live in the USA), and that I've read that a few people had issues with (when installing FSX on a separate partition or hard drive.) At that time, I decided to forgo SP2, and just use SP1, because I couldn't find anywhere how to resolve this without actually reinstalling FSX.So, my idea is to uninstall everything, and start from scratch. I understand what's involved, but don't mind doing it, and want to do it better than the first time. I've read many, many posts that:1. recommend moving the FSX install to the new hard drive by copying/pasting and then editing the registries2. others recommend doing a fresh install3. yet others recommend not installing FSX on a different hard drive where the OS doesn't resideSince I want to install SP2, and had the previous installation error with SP2, is my approach to do a fresh install (following Nick's procedure, of course) the best way to do it to avoid conflicts, errors, etc? My new hard drive will probably have a drive letter of "G", since my first hard drive has four partitions. I won't partition FSX's new HD. In working with partitions, I understand it really doesn't matter what letter is used to install - you just need to let other addon software know which letter FSX resides on - just want to make sure this is correct. Any other aspects to consider you think may help me are truly appreciated.Thank you for your time and input, and again I apologize if this question has been answered before.David B.
  17. I found a workaround - I had to create a new flight plan (same route and waypoints as the tutorial) within FSX, and it loads correctly into RC4's text window. If I use the included route plan that came with RC4, it won't work for some reason.David
  18. Hellow fellow simmers. I just bought RC4 a few days ago, and I'm enjoying the new experience immensely - I'm also new to this forum, and hope that someone can help shed light on a problem I'm having. I searched the forum as much as possible, but never found anything that matches my issue. I did Tutorial 1 perfectly, without any glitches. My system specs: Windows XP Home SP3 FSX SP1 Several add-ons (Active Graphics X, LVLD 767, Wilco 737PIC)RC4 - Version 4.3.3845 Intel Core 2 DUO 8400 3.0Ghz 2 GB Ram Nvidia GeForce 9800 GTX+ 512 MB M-Audio SounCard I'm now on Tutorial 2, and I'm stuck on one issue which I can't solve. Initially, I flew this tutorial and was expecting the HOLD as would've been directed by Center (around "70 miles from MEM", as printed in the tutorial.) I did not happen. I thought I had done something wrong when installing the route and/or the tutorial, so I redid it, but I had the same problem (no hold.) When trying a 3rd time, I noticed once at departure that in the RC text screen, instead of displaying the waypoint information as "<MKL> XX/XXX/11200", it had "<2> XX/XXX/0". All VORs and/or waypoint were displayed by a "<number>" (example, <1>, <2>, etc.) and the VOR frequency had a "0" (not the numeric frequency number.) That is, the waypoint name and fequency info was not recognized or displayed by the RC4 display text. Then I tried it with the default FSX 737, but again the next wav point or VORs never showed up with their names and/or frequencies. It only displays it as a <number> with frequency 0. So, no wonder I never got the HOLD, since I believe RC is not recognizing that a VOR is being selected, hence no HOLD can be issued. I've tried 5 flights, 3 with Wilco 737PIC and 2 with the default FSX 737, up to the point where I should see the correct data on RC text screen, but it never has shown. As I said, I flew the 1st tutorial and it worked perfectly. I don't know if I'm missing a step or procedure, but I can't seem to figure this out. I need some help on what I could do to solve it. I have followed the tutorial as directed, opening each application when directed, and pressing CS-L (which is optional), but I have pressed it. Lastly, Tutorial 1 worked fine, the text info showed as it should have.Hope that someone can shed some light into what I may have missed or am doing wrong.Thank you,David
