  1. All I can confirm is that SweetFX, when injected via RadeonPro, forces SMAA and SMAA and DX10 in FSX are no go. You cannot use RadeonPro's SweetFX injection method with DX10 FSX. I don't use SweetFX anymore and I stuck with Windows 7 so I cannot be of much help. Charles.
  2. What is CSAA? I mean compared to say.... Full screen SSAA? And is that 8xAA in the fixer and then set AA to CSAA in Inspector? I know there is SGSS in inspector for Transparancy textures like Gauges and GPS screens. In DX9 everyone uses 8xS+2(or 4)xSGSS right? For best IQ in DX9. Where is CSAA in all of this? In ATI land we have fullscreen Multisample or Supersample. No hybrid modes. Either the whole scene is Multisample and transparancy looks ghastly (Guages are harder to read, GPS's fonts and lines are jagged) or Supersample and everything is supersample. The only thing you have control over is how many samples. 2, 4, 8, 12, 24. No other tricks available. Charles.
  3. If your runnning FSX Gold (FSX Deluxe and Accel) then this might help. Could get you back to running and you could reinstall the DEMO. http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/67023-installing-and-patching-older-regions-with-ftx-global-installed-already/?p=615373
  4. You have been running 3 screens on a sub $200 video card? How did that do for you? Any card is going to be a huge upgrade! You're going to love it. Charles. I meant on the 780. But wait till November. I could still be wrong. I have already seen GTX780 for $519 now at more than one place. Is the 780Ti going to be $200 faster? Hmmm.... I think you will see the R9 290 at $499 in a week or so and it will be basically bang on the same speed as current GTX780's forcing both companies to drop below $500 for those cards. So I still believe the 780Ti will settle in below $700 for sure. Maybe $629 before Christmas. The sweetspot cards will be the GTX780 and R9 290 at $449 - $499 by December. That's what I am waiting for. C.
  5. Specifically #2 there are some games that run better with it but only slightly. But also apps that like it... http://www.overclock.net/t/671977/hyperthreading-in-games http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2274887 http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/Intel-Core-i7-Nehalem,2057-12.html
  6. "LOD_RADIUS=15 but it's NOT about distance" Aaaaannnd... Wait for it.... Waaait foooor it.... That what she said! :He He: AHEM! :Nerd: But seriously... I would love someone to prove that aiming at specific cores really helps in any way. I experimented and could never really tell if one setting helped over another. C.
  7. Seriously? An overclocked Haswell CPU with a GTX780 and still having fps in the low 20's flying KPDX to KSEA in the PMDG birds? Sigh.... P3D v 2.0 ... I hope this changes that. I hope this is on that Dell 30" Ultra! Charles.
  8. Pretty much what I said would happen. So I guess there's a whole pile of people scrambling to find receipts right now to see if they can get price protection on the card they bought just recently because these price drops are heading across the whole 700 series. expect to see the 770 real close to $300. Can't wait to see what AMD is going to do with the standard 290 for pricing shaking things up even more in a few weeks. the 290 should be approximately the same performance as a GTX 780. The 780 ti will be coming out in a couple weeks a little bit faster than the R9 290x. C.
  9. Would you be able to put up a bit of a mini review on this card? I would be very interested in seeing how it does with 8xSSAA in FSX. especially in quiet mode and what sort of volume is the fan when you're in quiet mode in FSX? C.
  10. That is a smoking beast of a card! Enjoy! Damn!!!! I see the EVGA "Super clocked" GTX780 at Newegg for $539 now! The prices are coming down faster than I though. But still more than I am willing to spend. I need to wait for the R9 290 (non-X) to come in below $400 or the GTX770ti to come out below $400 and be on the shelf in November. And the release of DX11 FSX (P3D 2.0). C.
  11. AMD+FSX DX10 --> the truth right here, right now... I think something in the nature of FSX's version of DX10 Shaders we are using in does not play nice with AMD architecture. I can promise it is not a DX10 thing as DX10 games outside of FSX work great. DX11 too. I mean kick butt good! So for me and FSX and my 7970 on Driver 13.4... DX9 is perfect with FSX right now and I do most of the flying in that mode anyway. No spikes or OOMs for me ever and crystal clear, sharp as a razor and smooth as glass regardless. Current BETA drivers however are not playing nice in DX9 FSX for some reason. AMD has had reports sent in on that and hopefully before the next WHQL release they resolve it. I only wanted DX10 in FSX for the improved cockpit shadows which is all that is really missing versus DX9. Lighting and color are identical as far as my testing goes. DX10 was a little smoother in some cases than others as well but then there are some planes that did not like DX10. The Carenado B200 has better framerates in DX9. Q400 Flyer has found other examples of that anomaly. A friend with a GTX680 found the same with another plane I cannot remember but a 30 fps airport and plane scenario was producing fps in the low 20's. Might have been weather though. In the end. I love the work done to get DX10 a reality in FSX for those that wanted it. But no matter the brand, manage your expectations. Moving from AMD to nVidia, using 8xAA in Fixer and 4xSGSS for Transparency AA will look awesome! About the same as 8xSSAA on AMD. perhaps a tick sharper if you side by sided and watched for it. Better have the hardware for it if you plan on lots of clouds and ORBX scenery. I would go no lower than GTX780 in this case. Here are the nVidia Equivalents if you are going sideways on this change. AMD 7870 = nVidia GTX660 (non-Ti) AMD 7950 = nVidia GTX660Ti or GTX760 AMD 7970 (Now called R9-280X) = nVidia GTX770 AMD R9-290 = nVidia GTX780 AMD R9-290X = nVidia GTX780Ti I still strongly recommend waiting until mid November. 770 and 780 Ti versions and all new pricing will be here as well as the new R9-290 (non-X) and possible the DX11 powered P3D. Good luck with whatever you choose. I wish AMD was working better with DX10 FSX but it is what it is. I know it will not be high on AMD's list of things to fix as it is sooo niche. Ah well. Charles.
  12. That's reasonable. Before yo go back, can you tell me what you are doing with fps? Locked in FSX? Or externally with FSX set to unlimited. Let me know. C.
  13. Steve's DX10 Fixer is an add on for FSX to "fix" DX10 Preview. It modifies the Shader folder of FSX to "fix" issues present in default FSX DX10 Preview. http://www.flightsimstore.com/product_info.php?products_id=2630 The only thing it adds to FSX.CFG is a line to set 4xAA or 8xAA based on a setting in the fixer chosen by you. Charles.
  14. No. you can only use one driver at a time. Fully uninstall one (AMD Catalyst Install Manager) and then fully install any other driver. That's what I mean. I tested each of those drivers. Cloud Shader on or off is a SETTING in Steve's DX10 Fixer and only effects DX10 Preview mode. Um this thread is about DX10 Preview with Steve's DX10 Fixer. Not DX9 which no one has issues with using ATI's official WHQL driver 13.4. Charles.
  15. Can you screenshot the black boxes and post them here? Are they everywhere? Or just occasionally appear/disappear? Use the V key and take a snap. Convert the BMP to a JPG (MS Paint save as works) and upload it here... http://www.fsfiles.o...lightsimshotsv2 It will give you links for posting. You want this kind... bracketed with Maybe if we can see the boxes, we can tell you what they are. No reason me and several others I have flown with do not see them and you do. Lets solve it. Screenshot posting is also explained here.... http://www.orbxsystems.com/forum/topic/38447-how-to-post-a-screenshot-on-the-orbx-forums/ Charles.
  16. Do you mean MultiSamplesPerPixel=8? Because if you had 4xAA set in fixer you had MultiSamplesPerPixel=4 already. MultiSamplesPerPixel=8 (8xAA) for long periods and I get spikes too like I said. If DX10, I need to stay with MultiSamplesPerPixel=4. I cant fly in heavy cloud with 8xSSAA anyway so I don't bother "trying it". Charles.
  17. My 7950 had no more issues than my 660Ti with clouds and my 7970 is definitely better so I guess that issue is roughly the same as an equivalent GTX. I tested my 7970 with Kostas cloud AA test at same settings and matched his GTX680 results. I do find 8xS with 2xSGSS a touch sharper than 4xxSSAA through. C. Remains to be seen I guess. AMD is bringing Mantle so.... Lets see how that effects BF4 in December. And I don't relish rebuying monitors. I am betting owners of 40" LED screens or 30" Dell Ultrasharps are not going to rush our and replace them for gsync. So we will see. Also now that AMD is the primary console chip for Xbox and Playstation 4, they will be working even closer with developers and the Mantle system. Mantle is also wait and see. http://www.techradar.com/news/computing-components/graphics-cards/amd-mantle-a-low-level-api-with-high-level-potential-1190692 Great booth companies continue to innovate. We all benefit. Charles.
  18. I don't use SweetFX so I can provide samples there... This is DX10 mode with 4xAA in the fixer and AA mode in CCC (or RadeonPro) set to SuperSample. No black squares here! This is Drivers 13.4, 13.9, 13.10, 13.11. Cloud Shader on or off in the fixer does not matter. No black squares here.
  19. Well the good news for you is that the GTX770 will have to drop closer to $300 due to the r9 280X variants hitting the shelves for $329 and less. So your theory is correct. And I often play the same game. I got my Gigabyte HD7970 Ghz edition for $389 on a price match from a local store. It was a little over my budget but was $100 off what you normally pay and $150 off the release price a year earlier. Had I waited a few more months, I would have had the ASUS CUII 29 280X for $329. http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/R9_280X_Direct_Cu_II_TOP/ The r9 280x is more or less the rebranded AMD HD7970 which competed directly with the GTX680 which became the GTX770 recently. The 7970 and the GTX680 were both the $500 cards just over a year and a bit ago. So there ya go! Charles.
  20. That would not make much sense. Lets say if, sometime in November, ASUS releases the CUII version of the 290X or Sapphire Toxic comes in at $589 and is within 5% of the GTX780Ti in performance (some games faster and some slower). Then what? Would the GTX780Ti make at or above the current GTX780 ($649). Nope! nVidia has to adjust pricing to compete here. nVidia would have to release the 780Ti at $599 or it will not be competitive at all. The current GTX780 will have to drop to $549 - $589 or thereabouts and I bet in the next 30 days it will. GTX780Ti Prediction - It will be only a bit quieter than the typical ASUS/Gigabyte/Sapphire 290x release and draw somewhere around 35 watts less under load (.50 cents a month worth of electricity for a typical hard core gamer). If I was choosing it over ATI, it better only cost about $50 more at best if I am right about the performance differences. Oh and if people worry about wattage draw on devices like video cards? If you pay .11 cents per kw hour where you live and if a card pulls 50 more watts than the competitor and you play 3 hours a day every day, you are looking at 60 cents a month. LOL http://www.citytrf.net/costs_calculator.htm Charles.
  21. Never use MultiSampleQuality=8 in the fsx.cfg with ATI. It causes crawlies along edges. In fact, I would not use MultisampleQuality line at all on ATI systems. If you need 4xAA (MultiSamplesPerPixel=4) set to 4xAA in the fixer and want it sharper, enable SuperSample in your driver (CCC or RadeonPro Utility). If you need Sharper still, go to 8xAA in the Fixer which adds MultiSamplesPerPixel=8 in the cfg. Just tried it again and "MultisampleQuality" added to cfg seems to make all the edges in the scene move and crawl. Charles.
  22. Echoing Darkstar... What res on clouds in REX you set at? And DTX5? or no? That aside... Have you tried turning off the Cloud shader bit in the fixer? Basically because if you are using SuperSample (or Transparancy AA SGSS for nVidia), that does nothing. Charles.
