  1. Must only use the drivers from the laptop manufacturer. ASUS is good at keeping them mostly current. It is discussed here. http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/737-28041SupportforATIMobility.aspx Charles.
  2. And with all due respect to the OP, the issue I have with this "Tutorial" is that steps 2 and 3 are NOT recommended by AMD (The manufacturer) prior to uninstalling the drivers! As a Desktop Support Analyst for 20 years with thousands of computers to look after, I have NEVER disabled a device in the device manager prior to performing an uninstall of that very device except maybe for a last resort measure when MANUALLY removing drivers from a screwed up system myself. If your system is now having issues... Here is the a TUTORIAL for fixing it. If you can fix it that is. http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=444&threadid=162444&enterthread=y So had you done everything outlined here I am 99% sure all would be well... HERE IS THE SUPPORTED METHOD TO UNINSTALL THE DRIVER http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/GPU57RemoveOldGraphicsDrivers.aspx If you have a Windows 7 based system here is the method. Only thing I would do first is ensure that I have restarted once to unlock any locked files and if running Radeon Pro, Exit it. Then proceed. How to uninstall pre-existing AMD Catalyst™ Drivers in a Windows® 7 based system Click on Start Open the Control Panel Select Programs and Features Select ATI Catalyst Install Manager Click on Change Click on Next when prompted for the Welcome to the InstallShield Wizard for ATI Catalyst™ Install Manager Select Express Uninstall All ATI Software Follow the on-screen directions and restart the system when finished NOTE! The Windows User Account Control (UAC) will prompt for Do you want to allow the following program from an unknown publisher to make changes to this computer?. Click on Yes to continue with the uninstall process To verify that the legacy graphics driver has been uninstalled, return to the Uninstall or Change a Program list and ensure that there is no ATI specific software listed If ATI specific software is still listed, remove any remaining ATI software components using the above process and restart the system when complete
  3. How did you uninstall and reinstall the Driver? So strange that there are those that can go to 13.11 and back to 13.4 and then there are those that cannot. After you tried the new driver and decided to go back, did you reboot once first. Then fully uninstall the new driver with Catalyst Install Manager and choose the EXPRESS UNINSTALL ALL AMD SOFTWARE option. In which case it then requires another restart? Then install Full Express option the 13.4? http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/GPU57RemoveOldGraphicsDrivers.aspx I have heard of people trying to reinstall 13.4 over a newer driver without a full removal first and getting BSOD from time to time. Is that what happened? C.
  4. Yeah we're all very lucky that AMD pulled that card out of their hat. They essentially gave us all $1000 worth of frame rates for under 600 bucks. C.
  5. Should be interesting! $700 though. Really it's just a crown reclaim card. Which has always been their MO. But people will buy for sure. Funny it will meet or beat a Titan for $400 less so soon. C.
  6. if you are sure you are on 13.4, then you might want to reinstall 13.4 over top of itself a case there's any corrupt files. Then reboot. Then try FSX again. let me know how that goes.
  7. Will be interesting to see how this goes in P3D v 2.0 since it is DX11. AMD has released all new cards and are working on allot of driver advances. Exciting times! For the nVidia people out there, the GTX780 will be like $500 now due to the new R9 290X release. I am waiting on the R9 290 non X though. It's going to be a kick &@($* card. I just hope it plays nice in P3D and FSX DX10. If not, one can always get a sweet GTX780 for cheap now. C.
  8. I recently tried the 13.11 Beta 8 driver. While it ROCKS allot of other titles, it causes an issue with FSX in DX9 mode. Basically in DX9 mode, FSX will CTD (Crash to Desktop) as you use the menus. Current best driver for FSX DX9 mode is 13.4. Good news is that they know and it has been passed on to the driver team. Below is a response to one of my posts on their driver forum from one of the moderators. Marc@AMD has posted a message entitled Catalyst 13.11 Beta 8 still crashing in FSX. Fatal Error.. The following message was posted on: Friday November 01, 2013 09:27:35 AM One of my colleagues manages the Issue Reporting Forms. He was able to reproduce the issue, and get the issue off to the driver team. He commented on it being the #1 issue by volume from the reports. A fix is being worked on by the driver team. They never provide an ETA on fixes, unfortunately. ;Marc
  9. News from AMD... A reply to my thread on thier wupport forums. I guess we HAVE been reporting the issue. Good work everyone! AMD will fix things when they know about them. Or at least they will try in my experience. Marc@AMD has posted a message entitled Catalyst 13.11 Beta 8 still crashing in FSX. Fatal Error.. 10. I can understand that. If it were me... I would back up my stuff and wing it. Something is bonkered on that system for sure. Is your ..net 4.0 up to speed and all that? You could try downloading dx9 and reinstalling that. Are you using sweetfx or enb series? What video card and operating system are you using? C.
  11. http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=444&threadid=162444&enterthread=y I wonder if you use the uninstall utility on your current driver and reboot and reinstall 13.4 what would happen. C.
  12. False alarm. I can still fatal error FSX on exit and if I go into and out of weather screen a few times. Charles.
  13. They already sort of have. 3 years ago the steam hardware survey showed ATI with less than 20 percent of the share of all computers logging on to steam. Now they have over 30 percent last I looked. With this aggressive pricing and closer relationships with game developers I believe this trend will continue to shift in AMD's favor.
  14. ATIUMDAG.DLL is still having a problem. Had a few flights and was no problem. Last flight fatal error on exit. Guess it's not fixed yet. C.
  15. I installed it tonight and it seems to work really well in DirectX 9 I have not tested DirectX 10. It also looks like AMD has added something called Gaming Evolved. it looks kind of interesting. Some kind of profile based game optimization tool. it scans your computer for your games and then make suggested settings for you at your request. If the person doesn't like it they can set it to not load with Windows or you can just exit it. I remember I had something like this with Nvidia. I never found it completely useful I usually set my own settings the way I wanted them. C.
  16. Catalyst 13.11 Beta 8 seems to be working. Please confirm. I did two full flights and all seem well. Fully uninstall your old driver with Catalyst Install Manager. Complete uninstall. Then reboot. Then install. http://www2.ati.com/drivers/beta/amd_catalyst_13.11_betav8.exe C.
  17. 13.11 Beta 8 seems to be ok. Need people to confirm. Worked for me in two complete tests. http://www2.ati.com/drivers/beta/amd_catalyst_13.11_betav8.exe Charles.
  18. I have to run and cannot test further but please confirm! Fully uninstall the current driver with the Catalyst Install Manager. Complete uninstall. Reboot then install this one. http://support.amd.com/en-us/download http://www2.ati.com/drivers/beta/amd_catalyst_13.11_betav8.exe I did 2 whole flights and changed planes within the sim several times and ended flights all normal. Anyone else? Charles.
  19. 13.9 crashed for me as well with FSX. Same with all the other 13.10 and original 13.11 but now... 13.11 Beta 8 works!!! I just tested two flights and no CTD's!!!! http://support.amd.com/en-us/download Please test this and confirm! Charles.
  20. This might be good news here everyone... AMD Driver 13.11 Beta 8 for download now at AMD http://www2.ati.com/drivers/beta/amd_catalyst_13.11_betav8.exe Or here listed http://support.amd.com/en-us/download just search your card and see the BETA 13.11 Beta 8 driver... I just un-installed 13.4 completely and rebooted and installed this one and did two flights and no issues. Talking about DX9 here! Can anyone else confirm? Charles.
  21. Well that IS good news that you can use RadeonPro. I liked in DX9 that I could keep SweetFX out of the FSX folder yet still call on it with a hot key from RadeonPro. I will go back and try this again as I was unable to figure out how to kill SMAA in RadeonPro SFX DX10 FSX. Thanks for the link! Charles.
  22. Just to explain this once more... #1. The "Tears" people mention are in DX10 because vSync is not working. You need RadeonPro to force vsync in FSX DX10 same as nVidia users have to use nVidia inspector! Same rules apply to both brands. #2. As for the spikes in DX10 FSX, you cannot use Water past 2xLow. Medium and High will result in graphical spikes and texture corruption. You can still get spikes if you have settings too high and fly in really dense scenery for long periods especially with 8xAA in the DX10 fixer. You can mitigate the spikes by locking DX10 FSX internally to 30 fps in FSX menu and turn off the locked frames in RadeonPro. #3. You cannot use RadeonPro method to inject SweetFX with DX10 FSX as it will black screen because it enables SMAA by default which does not work with FSX DX10. #4. Drivers. You cannot use drivers 13.9, 13.10 and 13.11 with DX9 version of FSX as there is a problem with a file called atiumdag.dll in the C:\Windows\syswow64 folder. If you want to go past version 13.4 with DX9 mode, you will FATAL ERROR in FSX (usually when changing planes or exiting) so you have to steal the atiumdag.dll file from version 13.5 and place it in the root of FSX folder. Then FSX will work in DX9 mode with newer than 13.4. ATI has had this reported and hopefully they fix it in thee next driver release. If you run ONLY FSX mainly, you dont need to update. 13.4 is VERY new still and stable as heck and it works fine in both DX9 and DX10 FSX. Charles.
