  1. I must correct my own post above. ILS localizer course and runway heading as displayed on charts, sim airport properties, navbases of 'flying calculators' (a/c w/ FMC) are magnetic. In afcad editors you can't change magnetic runway heading, only true one can be changed. But that is definitely not what you want -- runways obviously don't turn with magnetic pole shift. So, in this case you would want an updated table of magnetic variation data (see the link above). You can start by picking up a freeware afcad (some of them are right in the local library) and try to experiment with an editor. Perhaps, in the end of the... you will come up with a full blown brilliant scenery! -)
  2. Changing just markings (numbers) of runways is no big deal and can be done in any of AFCAD editing tools like ADE, AFX, FSX Planner et al. But mind you that it won't change a magnetic course of runways which would require changing a magnetic declination around airport zone, which may be a PITA (see the docs for utilities provided here: http://www.aero.sors.fr/navaids.html for details of issues). Surely, it's also possible to change magnetic courses in aforementioned afcad editors, but unless you're willing to fiddle w/ changing MD I'd presonally suggest to leave it alone.
  3. For the record in DX10 the notorious "bloom" effect was implemented by completely another method than in DX9, and it works! Also, this pretty old (but still effective) article is worth reading, imo: FSX - SP2 and DX10 Performance.
  4. Not sure who's the original author of the quoted sentence but it just works, thanks! So, in the topic starting message just plain wrong link to the document. The correct (for this fora engine) link at this moment would be: http://forum.avsim.net/files/file/1-fsx-hardware-software-guide/
  5. Hello, thanks for the good news! Somehow I missed that, would you please quote namely what and where exactly did he say that? Well, actually, there's already a special payware addon ('Addon converter', AFAICR) on the market for quite some time, which converts those aforementioned textures on the fly. That is, it does the work which is supposed to be done by the developers of those models themselves before they release their products to the consumers.
  6. DX10 only, but unfortunately there are way too many models and scenery parts with textures which look wrong in DX10 (gray or black). Many of them due to they are just lame-ported from respective FS9 versions, and the rest is simply lame. All that needs to be done to fix it is just converting textures into the correct for FSX format. But alas, in many, if not most, cases it can be done by developers only (.MDL, for instance, can't be easily disassembled and compiled back safely).
  7. Thanks for the clue! L-Control indeed seems to be the only non-useful for simulator key which we are allowed to choose from Config Manager drop-down list. But the issue is that FSUIPC won't allow you easily to input key modifiers like Shift, Alt and Control keys through its UI dialog window. So here we have to modify its INI file manually (and reload aircraft). Assuming that your joy # is 0 (zero) you'd like to have a line like this in the Buttons section: [Buttons.Level D Simulations B767-300ER] 0=H0,9,K17,10 PS. And btw I'm sort of curious where exactly does FS2Crew stores configured SoftMute key value? =)
  8. Just wonder why you would like to keep children out of the software, is any abuse possible? Perhaps, they want to fly with their mates and run sessions of their own, don't they? :-)
  9. What a very nice work, well done Dave! By the way, have I correctly gathered that you approve (or ban) each registered FSopen server account manually after observing registration details?
  10. Hello Chase, thanks for the response! The issue is, there is no user interface controls to contribute or (at least I can't see them). For instance, as per this forums manual: It appears I can't. The same story is about the rest of user generated content (links, gallery). MS Word is not free (in all meanings), secondly the file(s) have to be stored somewhere. I would rather trust this content to AvSim.net and have stored it here instead of my local HDD (which may go AWOL). I can see there are 'Vote' buttons for each post. Can I see the history of my Up votes (as we can see the history of Likes on FB)? This would be a huge help -- sort of instant bookmarking of interesting and useful posts. Thank you!
  11. Hello, Sometimes, while browsing these fora, I need to save some snippets of useful answers (it may be a code fragment, picture, text, link, anything) for the future quick reference (IPB search is a PITA). The easiest way to keep such a collection for me (and I guess for the other community members) would be using this very forum software (IPB). For instance I would like be able to collect at least Bookmarks to the interesting posts. And yes, I don't need or want to subscribe (and thus follow with notifications) to the whole (lengthy) Topic, even though I might be interested just in the couple of useful Posts within such topic. As far as I know, IPB is capable to provide its users with this kind of service. For example, in my Control Panel I can see: * Pages; * Blogs; * Gallery; * Links Directory Nothing of this, unfortunately, is available me. Is there any other convenient way to do notes here? /Thank you!
  12. looks like it is down atm. no multiplayer session w/ the real weather: http://www.downforev...m/fs2k.zone.com
  13. there is a nice option in Control Panel called 'Manage Notes'. it says, "You may store post snippets, or any other information you need to keep here".however, I can't see any controls which would allow to insert any content there.
  14. not aware about alternatives, but reducing airline traffic setting would definitely make ATC response quicker, though.
  15. regarding the the texture flicker on taxiways, there is a fix [ http://forums1.avsim...flickering-fix/ ], which, unfortunately, has to be applied individually to each airport of your choice.as for the progressive taxi arrows, the remedy could be using a very nice little addon called Follow Me Car, which is DX10 compatible.
