JF's Ls1011 or Captain Sims?
Cheers for the info guys, I've purchased the captain sim's version however I'm wondering is there a flight tutorial of any kind, unfortunately I'm unable to find anything that resembles one, unless I'm missing something.

JF's Ls1011 or Captain Sims?
I'm reading reviews on both versions of the Tri star ls1011 and I'm fairly undecided into which one to choose? I've heard the Jf's version also features a FMC is that case with Captain sims too? Overall any 1011 pilots have any thoughts on the aircraft?

Approaches and Charts
Thanks for all the heads up and help; Kyle, Dan and Simon. Guess I aren't nearly as well versed as I thought I were. I've been able to do a few easier routes; I.e London to Manchester and Amsterdam to Rome, I've noticed the FMC has correctly vectored for the final approach so I assumed the same would be for JFK. Probably explains why my passengers were swimming earlier than anticipated. The help as always is appreciated, at least in my aimless flying/crashing and diverting I've figured out some of the more intricate aspects of the triple 777.

Approaches and Charts
Thanks guys, I've been back through the tutorial to have a look at anything I will have missed, in regards to the vectors into JFK using the Robber1 star, I've noticed in the FMC, I will fly; over and away from the airport then track back around onto final approach for runway 04L. Is that what is meant by Vectoring?. Thanks

Approaches and Charts
Hey, I'm currently 507 nm out from JFK, managed to take off from Heathrow, keep my triple 777 in the sky during heavy turbalance (ASN - was the most tense 5 minutes I've had) and perform a fuel dump for the first time. I'm using the last leg of the cruise to check over the approach chart to JFK, I admit it's the first time using one, however I get the jist of it and I've entered the correcg height restrictions and speeds into the FMS. I'm guessing the fmc alter course and tracks as necessary or is this something as the pilot I should do? I've done the tutorial autoland, however as I am lookig to dive deeper into the craft I'm getting a little tetchy with reading a chart. I've flown a couple with GA aircraft that have required my inputs to manage and capture the glidescope, however I have never attempted this within a jet liner. If the FMC does indeed manage the necessary tracks then it's a huge decrease in my work load, however if it is something I have to manually do, what would be the best way to do so given the size and speeds involved? May seem like a simple question with a simple answer but I want to cover all bases. Thanks

Activation or lack of?
Ahh brilliant thank you, thought I'd messed the installation up at some point.

Activation or lack of?
I have an odd issue that's occurring in FSX:SE, I have all of the FSX Pmdg addons, a boxed copy of FSX and The steam edition. I held off installing the steam edition due to reports of PMDG aircraft not working within the game. Upon reading that they are now supported within the steam edition - I did a full uninstall and re install of the steam edition, updates the SDK for sim connect and installed the 777. It seems odd but upon starting fsx:se I'm asked for the permissions for the 777, but no activation prompt window unlike the previous boxed edition I had installed. Starting up at Heathrow the 777 initialises and everything appears to be working as normal, no anomalies at all. The question is, is it possible that with a previous activated copy, the 777 doesn't require activation with steam or is this something I have missed by not reading the forums?

FMC set up for a Noob
Thanks for the help guys, I've been back through the first tutorial and I'm working through the second, missed my approach into Innsbrook so I've had to go back through the FMC to re-program a go around route - Whilst I haven't actually landed the aircraft yet, doing so has helped me to understand the FMC better. I've had a look at and will be purchasing the TOPCAT software shortly - Thanks for the suggestion!.

FMC set up for a Noob
Hey all, I've had the 737NGX for a number of years but after having a computer incapable of running FSX, I've recently had the chance to upgrade. My question is when setting the FMC up for take off settings, I get completely lost. I've followed the first tutorial and I fancy chancing my arm at my own flight from Leeds to Zurich. I've created a flight plan online which I've implemented, however setting the engine performance just seems abhorrant to me. Is there anyway of calculating what I need to use or is it a case of trial and error?

Upgrading graphics card advice
HeyI'm wondering if anyone would be able to recommend what graphics card to upgrade to. I'm currently running a radeon Hd 4850 which as we all know are reasonably old and was purchased two years ago, up until recently i've been able to manage fsx with it, however as such I'm looking to future proof or atleast have a graphics card worth keeping around for atleast a year or so. My budget would roughly be £90 but i don't mind justifying an extra £30 if needs be. Thanks

Manchester airport in fmc?
Ah that may be why, I've re-updated the database and no problems selecting runway 23r. Thanks for the help guys

Manchester airport in fmc?
Hi im having a slight problem entering the runway data for departure for manchester Airport, I enter EGCC as origin and try to enter 24R for the runway but it says that the data isn't in the database, how would I go about adding the runway for departure? I've tried 24R for runway 024 for the runway and just 24 but to no avail. Thanks

Which to twin/single prop to buy
After tinkering around with some of the heavies mainly Pmdg md-11 and 737ngx aswell as captain sim's 767 I'm looking to buy something I can hop around regional airports with, I'm not looking for a single seater Cessna or Piper, more a twin prop if possible or twin engine aircraft if possible. I've read that aersoft a re-designing the Dh-6 otter and until then I'd like something along the same sort of lines if anyone can reccommend one? Many Thanks Lewis

MCDU problem?
Not sure if this should go here but I've recently watched the video for the VOR into Zurich runway 34, approach by Angle of Attack, however when attempting this in FSX, I’m running across a slight problem. When i enter the BLM1Z Star and VORD34 approach into the MCDU and insert it, the flight plan has BLM at an alttitude of 12000FT and Gipol at an alttitude of roughly 130363FT i was wondering when pressing the insert button is it advised to press the corresponding RSK next to Gipol to insert that into the FMS or return to the Flight PLan page? Many ThanksLewis

Your worst experiences with a PMDG aircraft
I have had two catasthropic crashes using the md-11 both of which on reflection were my fault.1) I had read the tutorial constantly and have got the start up procedure from the first tutorial down to a fine art meaning the only i've checked the manual was to briefly cross reference something so deciding i would manually taxi the md-11 until the run way i set off at a steady 15 mph when suddenly looking up to check the runway for any on coming aircraft the plane started to gain speed at an alarming rate, i applied speed brakes which had no effect at all, i deployed full flaps to try to make a short take off before i piled the md-11 into someones lovely house which would have been an awkward insurance claim. as v1 and rotate speeds approached i pitched up about a 100m from the fencing and 150m away from the closest houses. the plane started to climb and for a minute i was happy to reach 300m untill suddenly i noticed the altitude dropping i never had the chance to pull the plane out of the stall as i sadly smashed into a housing esatate. Turns out i had engaged the autpilot without meaning too.2) For this disaster to occur i placed the md-11 on klax with the aircraft ready to go with all the systems primed, this was a short manual flight to test the frame rates on take off and approach into klax one i was aiming to repeat numerous times until i found a trade off between scenary and traffic with frame rates. Not realising i hadn't set up a fuel load i indifferently started the take off roll and took off successfully from Klax, climbing to 3000ft i decided to lower the engine thrust to allow me to turn around some 60 nm out from the airport to start a manual descent into Klax, as i lowered engine thrust about 35nm from klax i noticed that the engines were loosing power, i wasn't worried i ould test the engines and see if it was a small problem with the throttle, engaging the engines to maximum power resulted in no response from the engines themselves. At 3000ft i decided i wouldn't have enough time to do more than 2 engines restarts before i ran into trouble not that i knew how to do them anyway, turning around to make an emergancy descent into klax and with my speed dropping at a none too pleasing rate i again made the decision to deploy flats to 15C. In theory this allowed the plane to generate enough lift to maintain a glide in which i could reach Klax, or at the very least make an attempted crash landing, this however didn't happen and as i noticed the ground hedging closer i deployed the landing gear ad attempted to find an empty stretch of land in which to park the plane, this didn't happen as i turned the plane gently the wing dipped and caused the plane to nose dive into a block of flats.

new to the md-11 and addon aircraft
Hi alljust bought the md-11 as my first addon aircraft for fsx as i've been interested with the md-11 since my younger years as the planes looked and flew superbly my only flight in one was when i was six flying to amsterdam but from what i remember it was probably the smoothest flight i've been on. The PMDG aircraft looks and feels like a treat to fly so congrats and thanks to the develeper's, although i've only managed to get to flight level 370 in the tutorial the transition and take off seemed to be on of the smoothest i've flown in fsx.I was wondering once i'd completed the tutorial flight to zurich how would i create my own flight and add it into the fmc? would i enter the given fuel loads and from/to aircraft, flight level and fuel as per int he tutorial then select the given waypoints in the flight plan or would it be something more complex? just wanting to try a few shorthaul flights, etc london to edigborough, manchester to charles de gaul etc to get used to the fmc and plane proper. Also wondering if i were to do a bog standard flight like i would in fsx, e.g follow a pre determined flight route by the atc say for instance leeds - amsterdam following the ifr headings the atc controller gives to me, would it be possible to dial the headings and altittude in ala the default airbus's and boeing 737 or would it be slightly more complex to do as im wanting to also learn manual take offs and landings and manual flight aside from the autoflight given by the fmc. Thanks
