  1. Rest in Peace. Thank you to Tom for all he has done for the flight sim community. And for me and my hobby. I never met Tom, but he was and always will be an influence on my life.
  2. I may be misunderstanding the question, so apologies if so, but I had nothing but freezes using two monitors. Eventually I noticed that my fsx.cfg was missing info for my second monitor (I think it was the line: Mode=1680x1050x32) which when reinstated stopped the sim hanging when switching between windowed and full screen. As I say, may be of no help to you whatsoever but it sure as hell helped me! Tristan
  3. Thanks for posting. And thanks to Ryan for helping. I used as a guide to review my cfg line by line. I no longer have a crash when I change from full screen to windowed mode. My cfg was missing a line in the DISPLAY.DEVICE section. Maybe that did it, maybe something else. Either way you have managed to solve a very irritating problem. This isn't the first time advice from PMDG has helped me resolve app crashes for FSX; so thanks again. Tristan
  4. Have you been here and used this .exe? I needed to after reinstalling W8. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928080
  5. Metro: Dislike! Time between bios loading and windows 8 loading and fully usable... 9 seconds: Like!
  6. I've recently made the switch from an older ati to the 670 ftw. Definitely more "jaggeds" with the new card and not just in fsx. NI helped me a lot but read the various guides on correct use of NI! Other effects seem better (a lot better) with the 670 (smoke, light, reflections, etc). So overall i was pleased. I say was as it died after about five weeks of use and is on its way back to the manufacturer under RMA. Tristan
  7. have you checked that none of the files and folders are 'read only'. that initially caused me problems, as did uiautomation.dll
  8. Having started the thread, I ought to say "thank you" for the repaint! Thanks. Good job! I can see time and effort has gone into a comprehensive set of paints which are thoroughly enjoyable to behold. T
  9. Not sure if anyone else suggested this, but I recently had a real performance issue with a well known WW1 combat flight sim. The guy in the computer shop sold me an air duster for £10. I thought I'd been conned, but went along with it. You know what - I blasted the life out of all my fans - especially the GPU - and it works better than ever now. Worth a try!!Tristan
  10. Thanks for the updates.I'd rather you take your time than rush it and compromise on quality.I'm thoroughly enjoying the sim so far, and the liveries I've tried are really good - so many thanks and congrats. Of course, it's what's on the inside that counts, but the liveries really do add the icing and that authentic feel. [P.S. Siddiq - quite right, the LatinVFR addons are pretty good and well worth a plug. I was thinking more in terms of liveries than scenery - so I'll stand corrected on this one!] T
  11. Hi folks 1st up - thanks to PMDG for a great looking add on; the proof will be in the flying, but for now ... looks great! And thanks for the sensible pricing. On to my question, and sorry if this seems impertinent or impatient [we've seen a bit of that of late ;) ].... Is the Caribbean Airlines repaint still on its way? I noticed it missing from the initial set of downloads, and notice more than one Trini on the forums who, along with me (that makes at least 2, if not 3 people!!) who would no doubt appreciate it for the oft-overlooked-by-flight-sim corner of the world. All the best Tristan
  12. I quite agree that the VC is a one way ticket to a far more immersive, enjoyable, realistic sim (esp on newer machines that can - moreorless - cope with the demands). I switched to VC as a rule about two years ago (when I built a machine capable of supporting FSX with VC at usable frames) and have not looked back. Speaking from a position of relative ignorance, since the NGX will be my first PMDG purchase (how could one not buy it!?) I would like to see 2D panels incorporated in much the way that the Feelthere / Wilco PIC 737 did. I still fly that bird primarily despite the newer, prettier or more sophisticated renditions of 757s and 767s etc (as I say, I can't comment on PMDG yet, since I am new to the product line and will consider the NGX my entry point) because the individual 2D popups for overhead panel, throttle etc, EFIS controls and CDU are invaluable and make the product a joy to use, and unlike additional 3D windows, take no hit on frames, nor - let's face it - on realism. That particular bird is showing its age, and I assume its developers and publishers are reaching the end of the road revenue-wise on that one, so the PMDG product certainly excites. To anyone not yet flying in VC, give it a go. But a two screen set up really helps, with the VC dedicated to the screen in front, and a screen to the side (I prefer right) with the 2D pop ups for EFIS controls, CDU and throttle which saves panning or impossible feats of zooming at critical points in flight.
