  1. These Norway-sceneries are very good, but I am having a hard time finding a reliable download-source for «Norway Mesh X v0.75». The only source @googledrive keeps failing towards the end of the download, producing a «Unknown Network Error» I currently don't have other significant problems with my network or access to www in general.
  2. Wishes of a happy and prosperous year back to you - I have noticed you do a tremendous job for the community! Thanks to DX10 2014 could become another exciting year for flight simmers. With the boost of DX10, I feel confident «old» simmers would be interested getting back into the game. The question is whether they are aware of (DX10) it or not.
  3. But of course, WIth DX10 and anti-aliasing is set to X2, I finally got what I was looking for in FSX. Any improvement beyond this is just a bonus. I made a mistake purchasing my X2 Geforce GTX 650, thinking the model had SLI-capability. It doesn't. Regardless, I still get steady 28-30 fps (surround) with fair weather. Somewhat lower performance with heavy cumulus layers, but still steady. Every now and then there is the occasional stutter, but they are far and few between. Thank you.
  4. Thank you for the the revised guide! During the DX9-era forums were bombarded with tweaks and good advice, however there was little to no game-play improvement regardless of tweaking. What makes the DX10 guide so great is the instant and visible improvement of the simulator.
  5. Actually, I would not have been able to properly configure bufferpools without one of your original posts on this topic: Thank you! There are quite a few improved (better documented) tweaks around, and many of them should be included in updated versions of the original tweaking guides.
  6. Based on the document in question I went through with a full cycle of bufferpool-tests just the other day: Performing the test through a heavy cumulus-layer I was able to adjust the RejectThreshold-value until I experienced butter smooth rendering. DX10 instantly provided a smooth FSX experience, but to retain efficient rendering in clouded conditions, I had to adjust the bufferpool-section. Do not underestimate the power of DX10 along with a few appropriate tweaks! B)
  7. I think you could experience good FSX-performance from your hardware. I run FSX on three monitors with a single Geforce GTX 650. I will at some point upgrade to SLI-configuration but not now as I already get 24-30 stable frames under almost any conditions. I am also able to set LOD=6.5, which gives the sharpness needed for surround-view. Have fun setting up your FSX-computer! Just make sure that your third monitor can connect with HDMI.
  8. I run full screen mode simply because I don't need another reminder that I'm actually flying from my desk...
  9. Hey Henri, I like PlanG, but what makes FSCommander superior is the fantastic integration of taxiway and parking information. To my knowledge this is not available in PlanG. I now run FSX on a three multi-monitor setup with an additional wall-mounted 17" monitor centered above. On this fourth monitor I run FSCommander via network. With this solution, I never have to pause FSX to check maps or parking information. True bliss, really... B)
  10. Thank you very much for your fast response! What you write makes total sense: Having little to no experience with ADE, I thought there was an automatic feature to auto-blend the new airport background to the surrounding area. I will certainly give your method it a go: Should be great fun. Thanks again and have a great day!
  11. Hello designers! I am cleaning up in some scenery issues, and have started by correcting airports with incorrect elevation data. Using Airport Design Editor X, I am able to flatten the area, but the polygon does not adjust to the elevation of the surrounding scenery. What is the right method ensuring that the flattened area made in ADE blends in with surrounding scenery? I assume this should be a matter of adjusting the value of your flattened area to the airport elevation, but this does not work... Thank you.
  12. Hello Larry, I have tried the DX10-version of FSX in a multi-monitor setup. First of all I would check surround configuration or similar multi-display configuration under the ATI Control panel. Also, reset your graphic adapter to it's original state, including any overclocking. Sometimes the fsx.cfg has duplicate or conflicting entries, in which case you should erase at least one. Whenever following the above steps, I was always able to bring back FSX working smoothly.
  13. I had to go through with three complete cycles of configuring DX10 before I got fps under control. One important lesson (I learned): As soon as you get steady and good fps, image your hard-drive and continue configuring. What seemed to resolve my fps-problems was removing multiple graphics adapter entries in the fsx.cfg as well as an fixing a wrongly set aa-value in nvidia inspector.
  14. This is an appropriate update: I previously stated my system kneeled on dusk/dawn-conditions. I have now done further testing: I get steady non-stuttering fps 24-29 and experience extreme (!) advantages over DX9. DX10 produce new stutter free, fast, and visually improved flight simulation which to my knowledge is quite a breakthrough for the troubled old FSX. I get a slight setback in fps in extreme cloud-conditions, but really don't need to fly in a tornado  on a daily basis - no need to complain. There are some remarkable advantages to DX10 - I am definitely a convert! One of the most obvious advantages to DX10 is all the extra fps - very reliable performance compared to DX9.
  15. There are so many great planes out there and i tried a few: Carenado is pretty much up there on the top, but I miss the final few touches on the Carenado C337. A2A are very accurate about the A2A C172, but it just seems a little like reality: Too slow - you get about the same level of excitement from a balloon... Ouch, but that reminds me of all the fantastic new scenery on offer. 2014 will be a very expensive FSX year.
  16. Thank you for that input, Paul. Firstly - any chance you have a link to your friend or the setup-procedure to run FSX in SLI-configuration? (I already run surround, but only need one of my cards for that) I am aware that I went for the budget-card. When purchasing new cards a few months ago, I still had not realized how far FSX has come in 2013. At this point, the software justifies a real investment in a sophisticated video board, and I will probably soon find myself heading back to the hardware store... In the meantime, FSX with DX9 performs decent on my modest desktop. In fact, compared to previous hardware-environments, I have gained practically 100% improvement in terms of fps. With 24-29 fps at most airports, you tend to think less about hardware and more about flying: Which is exactly what should be the focus.
  17. I was able to test available tweaks and modifications to run with DX10, quickly got around vsync problems and established a steady frame rate. The problem is my GPU can't handle the DX10 configuration very well. Even with the a humble 2AA setting, it kneels in dusk/dawn conditions. So far, DX9 can handle similar environments, maintaining 24-28, which is exactly the minimum of what I need to keep my hungry FSX heart satisfied... B) Other than that it flew great and looked beautiful. Always prefer stability and smoothness over anything else, I'll stick with DX9 until I get a new video board. So far, it doesn't look like FSX supports SLI technology. I would like to utilize the full (x2) VGA capacity, but according to monitoring tools only the first card listed is running FSX. SLI is also set as disabled in GPU-Z.
  18. But of course, you are absolutely right! I will do so in a so in a few and at the latest before my next post. Thank you - and btw - whatever happened to fsx in the four years I was gone? By now it totally rocks!
  19. Just read this by Paul J: «Force FullScreenVsync=1 should not be used, as it eats ~ 4fps. Just delete the line completely. Vsync is handled by your (correct) settings (at the bottom of the Inspector screenshot) and in cahoots with "DisablePreLoad=1 in [Main] - so you need to put that line in - it's not there right now..» I used the above tweak, and 4fps was about what was lacking from VC-view... Alright, I am tempted to try again.
  20. So I finally decided to give DX10 a chance, spending a few hours collecting the various tweaks, necessary files and applying the changes to my FSX installation. Using the most common settings (AVSIM forum) I got everything working, except for acceptable frame rates from VC-view. Before I fixed vsync, frame rates were fine all over, but once I killed the tearing, fps dropped to 18-24 from VC-view. In spot view, fps remained steady at 29-30. I already had everything working smoothly with DX9, so I gave up. FSX in DX10 looks good, but there is only so much time left over for tweaking these days... Maybe someone has a cure?
  21. As of lately I have been experimenting with trees in FSX, and it appears to have some effect on animated birds (yes the small fluffy ones). At first they froze in mid air. Trying to reset the old settings, they seem to have vanished altogether. Anyone who had the same issue or know a way to reset bird animations? I really never paid much attention to them, but with everything else working nicely it adds another dimension in terms of atmosphere. Yes, I have enabled advanced animations...
  22. Anything that can improve realism in FSX is welcome, and the new "Natural Tree Environment" is definitely worth a look. I made my own comparison, which can be seen below. The trees from NTE has more detail to them, and the snow has more of a powdery feeling to it - just as in reality. No issues so far - at least not here. What is your impression?
  23. Various panels that comes with add-ons will often stretch in a multi-monitor setup like this. Rather than going into the panel.cfg to manually edit the values, I would recommend using FS Panel studio. The main reason for this is that the values for height, width, vertical and horizontal positioning of the windows is anything but intuitive. While some of you would appreciate the challenge, I did not have the time to wrap my head around it: FS Panel studio allowed me to accurately re-size and position the panels exactly where I wanted them. On the other hand: If someone has a logic explanation as to how these values can be adjusted via panel.cfg, I would possibly be intrigued. I had a go a it, but the example given did not make sense. Resizing of panels and windows for multi-monitor setup: 1. Regular 2D-panels: FS Panel Studio is very useful and handy for this operation 2. ATC-window: Resize the window with the default flight and save it. You ATC windows will now reappear in the same size for all flights.
  24. Thank you very much for the pinned topic on 3 monitor setups. Looking forward to read that one! I am very impressed with the moderation of this forum - fs or not - you simply get it right. As I now have dusted off fsx - and with good reason - I hope to become a positive contributor to you great forum.
  25. Thank you very much for a very thorough answer! I guess all the good tweaking advice got me lost in terms of references. Regardless, using Usepools=0 combined with internal fps set to 30 was exactly what changed my fsx experience. It literally went from 18 - 24 at a fairly complex airport to a steady 30 fps, nearly everywhere - including cloudy conditions in the sky. Having wasted too many hours tweaking through the years, I know this is probably the single most efficient tweak I ever came across. As to LOD=7.5, I never experienced any trouble from that, but I will test 6.5 to see if I can gain some stability, reduce artifacts etc. 4.5 is unbearable with a triple monitor configuration. The scenery to the far left and right simply becomes too blurry, reminding me of the old FS2000-days. And who want to go back there?
