  1. Like yourself I also am running an i7-4790k from 2014. However, I have my framerate locked externally via RivaTuner at 30fps and get buttery smooth gameplay even with a FBW A320N at EGKK. From my experience, you need a few things though: - make sure your windows is on an SSD hard drive, and your MSFS is also installed on an SSD hard drive. This will help a lot. - I am running the CPU overclocked to 4.67GHz and this really makes the sim perform great. - Upgrading from GTX1050Ti to RTX2060 Super definitely helped as the 8GB VRAM now can handle my 2 monitor 3840x1080 widescreen set up at Ultra very well. - Adding another 16GB of DDR3 RAM - I got it when it was much cheaper last year and no regrets. MSFS now consumes about 13GB in sim. The rest of the free RAM is Windows headroom now. Given the ridiculous hardware prices now, this rig is going great for me too.
  2. I've tried the sim twice taking a 172 over Manhattan at 4K HDR but also capped at 30fps by Rivatuner. For me as well, the Sim is quite smooth, with my fps averaging at 21 fps over Lower Manhattan. What amazes me is that RAM use is now around 8-9GB contrasted to the previous 16-22GB that I would see the sim hit. Whatever Asobo did, seems to be a good job. I dont think I will upgrade my pc for a while to come now. If DirectX12 is released, I'd expect the sim's efficiency to improve further.
  3. Most of these comments I've read are on Youtube and in reddit. My take on it is that the people who post them are not in AVSIM.They seem to be mostly 'gamers' who play a wide range of PC games and are "benchmarking" their hardware for Frame Rates. If you've been following AVSIM like me for the past 16 years then you'll know that 30fps is a dream for MSFS (FS9, FSX). Tell that to a kid who wants to blow up people at 100fps, and whose world has been shaped by faster frames = better performance. Considering that prior to the NVIDIA RTX3000 series launch, the max fps in MSFS on a RTX 2080 at 4K was in the high 30s, its no wonder people think this sim is a hardware hog. However, if you look back in time every MSFS title since FS9 has only worked best on a (Intel) CPU where single threaded performance at high clock speed is more important. I remember landing in a FSX slideshow at EGLL while on VATSIM with UK2000 scenery and frame rate heavy AI models around.. Moving from an Athlon XP 1800+ to a Pentium Core 2 Duo e8400 Wolfdale was like a night and day difference to me on FS9/FSX. And then again when I moved onto an i5-4670k. The same has been commented about MSFS in that it tends to hog one CPU thread more than others. MSFS always seems to have been CPU limited as a title. And every new generation of CPUs delivered better performance for the ageing sim. I feel that in 3 years time you'll have CPUs and GPUs that will have no issues running MSFS with a PMDG B747 flying through NYC,
  4. Interesting. I'm really glad that the weather has been improved so much. There are still some minor issues, and this comment explains it for me. I was starting out at WMKK and while there was a lot of thunder and lightning, the Terminal Area and departure parth was lacking rain yesterday. There's always a downpour around 4PM that close to the equator every day, so that was a bit off for me. Flying onto Japan RJTT, and the weather was dynamic with rain and thunder which matched the METAR.
  5. Silly me. I had run linuxmint dual boot this morning after the FS configuration. My Windows changed the Windows time after reboot. It was now saying 11:10 AM instead of 9:10 PM. I've resynced the time and am happy to report the sim is loading fine now. Just that having done the App Reset, it now wants to download the 95 GB all over again!
  6. Thanks. I just 'Repaired' and 'Reset' the App from Windows App settings. But now that you mention it, I'm troubleshooting if its a firewall issue on my end or not. I dont recall Windows giving me the popup for "allow network access" when I reinstalled last night. (My internet is live on Windows) Will post any updates here.
  7. I was reading this article. It's not perfect for academic purposes I guess, but still a fun tool now. https://www.bellingcat.com/resources/case-studies/2020/08/24/cleared-for-takeoff-exploring-microsoft-flight-simulator-2020s-research-potential/ "Over the past few days, we’ve experimented with MFS2020 and visited cities big and small, conflict zones, and even areas of environmental concern to answer these questions. We found that while the game’s 3D models are not accurate enough to be reliable for geolocation, the way that the game renders topography, along with its dynamic lighting and weather capabilities, could help with background research by giving investigators a “feel” for the places which they are exploring."
  8. Hi All, This weird new thing started happening today when I launch MSFS, and go past the "Press Any Key to Continue" screen. I get this popup that will not let me continue without a "Game Disc". https://imgur.com/a/fnZCqsR 2 questions: 1. is anyone else getting this? Is it likely to be because of the purported 27th August update? (I am in Aus - using MS Store bought digital ownership version; so in 3.5 hours its going to be 28th August here). Just some background -yesterday, I was unable to find and remove/delete my manual cache file, so I uninstalled MSFS. However my MSFS dedicated N:\ Drive was still pupulated with 250GB of data. I formatted N:\ and then reinstalled MSFS from the Microsoft Store overnight onto N:\ again. This time I customised the LocalCache folder location in N:\ drive, and also the location of the Community and Official folders at Install prompt. This morning the sim loaded up fine, and I went in and changed changed my keyboard profile (it seems FS/Windows/Xbox account retained my previous keyboard profiles). Then shut it down. Could this have now prompted this 'insert disc' nonsense? Would like any assistance. I'm lodging a Zendesk thingy now.
  9. Same here when it happened to me. Of course it took 40 minutes of clicking and trying all sorts of things to discover that double clicking my mouse wheel unlocked the cursor to become normal again.
  10. I read your post and then deleted 1.3TB of accumulated FS9, FSX, P3Dv2, P3Dv3, P3Dv4 freeware, utilities, addons, sceneries, liveries, aircraft models etc. from the last 16 years! Those were my backups! Transcendental: https://imgur.com/a/IxsdwZ8 https://imgur.com/a/ahfiYjz like FS9 and FSX the hotfixes should be coming out over the next few months, and it'll make this sim even better!
  11. I'm in the same boat, and now I've cranked up my settings to Ultra. Loving the sim. Getting constant 25fps.... true cinematic framerate in Ultra!
  12. Same here. My sim looks like the screenshot as well now that I fired it up again. However, it doesn't bother me much as the lighting effects on downtown at sunrise still wowed me once I took to the air. My specs are pretty avg if you see my sig, but I've set my graphics at high. https://imgur.com/a/y7QEcNS
  13. I cannot see your screenshot, but does downloading the GTA onto Manual Cache improve things for you? I did that and am pretty happy with the buildings downtown. As long as I don't go ground level, the scenery is really good for my eyes.Queen's Park, U of T, the Annex, Little Italy all look fine from 1500ft in the air. Same for Bay St and downtown core. I did notice that Credit River is on top of an escarpment between Oakville and Mississauga.
