  1. I use Plan G to check my arrival airports frequency before I even load up FSX, Plan G has the original frequencies listed. Write those down on your notes and be prepared to enter them into Navrad on descent if you notice it's different. It's a bit extra with the workflow but it's not that difficult.
  2. Normally this helps matters, induces clear thinking and good decision making  Sounds like the OP is not capturing the glidescope.
  3. Hi Gerald, Thanks for suggestions, I used the windows built in unzip utility and it worked. Thank you for your time John.
  4. OK thank you for the replies. Not home for 2 days now but will try out suggestions when back. I was using Winzip to unzip the files and the computer was a fresh return to factory settings reinstall about a week ago. That means McAfee is on there in the beginning but I remove it straight away with the proper routine then activate MS essentials. All drivers and updates are in place but not Win 8.1 I can see xpack .msi but havent tried to run that yet so will try that, if that runs what should happen afterwards? I will try running the setup with built in windows program as well and report back here hopefully Wednesday. Cheers,
  5. Just MS essentials, no other programs a very minimal start up.
  6. Thanks for quick reply, I downloaded again ( have a very good connection ) and lots of room on the drive but the problem is the same. My fsx.exe file is definately set to admin.
  7. Hi, I am trying to install MCE for Aerosoft airbus and with a problem. I unzip the file and click on install and get the message about not finding the installer package. If I click on the bootstrap file I get the message this will install aerosoft airbus then another message saying I must set the fsx.exe to admin permission. This I have done but it keeps repeating this message and not letting me continue. Any ideas? UAC is set a lowest the slider goes on win 8.
  8. It may only be a computer game and as you say "pretend" but the people involved in it are not pretend and whilst it might not be as important as a drivers licence or passport the process of application between people still takes place and the behaviour of the OP would be unacceptable to anyone on the end of it. Thats the comparison, not what is being applied for but the way you behave in engaging other people.
  9. Whichever way you cut it the behaviour by the applicant is disproportional in context with the original refused application. BAV has a process in place for application and makes it quite clear the criteria to meet the application. The OP made an error on the application and had a chance to rectify this but chose instead to engage in a rather shambolic shaming and blaming exercise on this and other web sites. Think about this, if you were applying for a passport, a driving licence, or something similar and you enter incorrect details would you expect to fastrack the queue or have the relevant authority issue the documents just because you have a good reputation for travelling or driving? You possibly could give examples on some authority somewhere that would hold your place in the line but remember BAV is a site run by volunteers who already have a high workload with what they do without adding to it the manual intervention of processes that work automatically when applicants submit the correct data. The bottom line is this, the OP could have had the dispute with BAV in private and worked out a solution but has instead brought it out into the open and has therefore brought BAV into disrepute. That alone is a reason to disqualify him from ever joining. John
  10. Sorry, should read logbook.bin
  11. I don't use the same service as you but occasionally get the blue screen and spinning mouse and nothing happens. The cure is deleting the logbook.ini file then it starts up but alas with a new clean log.
  12. Yes this is true, Acrobat does a good job of hiding it which is why I get dismayed at times when people blast others about reading the manual. I have the same chunk missing as Carolyn does in the so called holistic view, so to find it I click Aircraft systemsAutomatic flightControls and displaysPFD airspeed display Then from there you scroll down and the bug information can be seen.
  13. Carolyn Look at this thread http://forum.avsim.n...-on-speed-bugs/ a few posts down there is a great explanation of it by Ephemeral.
  14. Whether I autoland or not in the MD11 or the 747 depends on how much I have had to drink. Hey...just like real pilots then....
  15. Glad you got it sorted. For me it happened if the joystick was used before A/P disconnect and haven't seen the issue since.
  16. Me thinks you doth protest too much.
  17. I see you chopped most of my quote out and just included the part that fits your agenda thus bringing the whole conversation out of context. Sorry to see you have taken this all rather personally.
  18. Good CRM in the real world is vital between crews. Having been privileged to be on the flight deck on many occasions I often hear crew ask each other questions and never heard anyone say RTM! I do advocate reading the manuals but as mentioned here sometimes you cannot find what you are looking for even with a search and piling through hundreds of pages looking for one particular thing can be very frustrating and time consuming. The great thing about asking is getting a human response and that bit of extra information by user familiarity. The best explanations I have seen on here are from the people who take the time to explain something and also point you in the direction of the correct place in the manual to look for clarification. Why wouldn't people want to do that if they have the time? Its especially useful for less experienced simmers or for those just starting out. We all had to start somewhere!
  19. Ah yes Kenny that is the point I was trying to make. Thanks :-)
  20. I was under the impression that once selected it is pretty much left alone. I read somewhere ( may have been the manual ) why you alternate between A and B switches, sure it had something to do with equalising the usage of the system.
  21. Hello guys, I revisited the tutorial earlier and pleased to say it went perfectly. I now have 6 valid and well rehearsed flight plans that all fly to "the book". I am not sure what mistakes I made on the initial attempts but clearly there must have been some. Like a lot of things I guess it is all down to attention to detail. I appreciate all the responses here and in the time it took to learn to fly this plane my kids grew up and left home.... ( nothing about that in the FMC! ) I have to say this sim for MD11 is pretty remarkable considering I paid just under £40 for it so captains hat off to the PMDG staff for giving us such an excellent worthwhile experience for the money and thanks to them for their help on these boards not just with this but the other planes as well. You guys deserve a beer! Cheers John.
  22. Yes I have. After landing and AP disconnect go to external view and look at the back of the aircraft, take a close look at the rudder. A couple of times after auto land I noticed the rudder was not centred. I know I did not make any adjustments myself to this during flight but not sure if this happens automatically in AP mode. This may be your issue as well so worth checking. John
  23. Thanks Andy. I will give the tutorial another go but in the meantime have nailed my flight from Paris to London. From start to finish and full autoland it all went exactly to plan. Interesting what you mention about tutorial docs I was using the download version but also have the boxed set, so wonder if there are any differences? Shame the PMDG guys didn't give us the FMC manual in the box like the 747 but never mind it may be one for the work printer!! Thanks everyone for the help and suggestions here it has helped me.John
  24. Thanks for the replies, have reinstalled but still experiencing the same issues. I had a bit more success with my own flight plan Paris to London following the same procedures and this was to force myself into getting a better understanding of the FMC. Certainly it needs a fair bit of trial and error and its a complex beast. Hopefully will have a flight plan Paris - London that will be bullet proof for practice purposes.Definitely a lot of sim for the money that much is true.John Yes I followed this part John from the load manager. I will bear in mind the part about GIPOL next time I attempt the tutorial. ThanksJohn
