  1. I would hand carry as many components as possible onto the plane in bubble wrap...then ship the case. At least it'll be lighter and let's face it, the really expensive, fragile items are the internals anyway. Maybe even just consider buying a replacement case once you're settled? It might be equivalent to shipping the existing case.Good luck whichever route you choose.
  2. From the ND, I'm assuming you were off the Southeast coast of Japan? Yes, I'm not surprised at all...have experienced some of the most ferocious winds and general turbulence in that corridor heading north to Japan... more than anywhere else in the world in over 1/2m. miles of real world travel. That's a great tribute to re-create. I hope my son will do the same someday for some of my 'jaunts.'Hope you enjoyed the ride ;))
  3. Couldn't agree more with you on the clouds...1024 seems to look better for some reason. I have some ga a/c panels which are done as 2048, so I just keep mine higher as a buffer for anything else which might need it. Overall, hard to tell much difference either way I suppose. Tks!
  4. Right, tks. Been considering switching to ATI for the sake of Eyefinity...always on the lookout for first hand reports on the relative performance :)Having looked at your .cfg, any cause for concern with the ATI if you increased the Texture Max Load to 2048 or 4096 ? Just curious.Cheers!
  5. Sorry if I missed this tidbit...but are you using Eyefinity?
  6. A month ago I experienced a rolling t/o in a 737/7 which had only 16 pax onboard, so you can imagine how light we were. For OP, you may not know, but is this Fedex 658 Heavy? Usually departs KBOS appx 8:30am most mornings....I listen every day to KBOS atc and most mornings they don't receive immediate takeoff instructions..'line up and wait' is the norm. Maybe it's a different flight...maybe as another member mentioned there was another a/c on final, probably just depends case by case. Most of my heavy 744, etc. take off's have been of the line up/wait variety.
  7. Couldn't they have at least chosen a Honda?!?!?! at least it would've been more relevant (and enjoyable)! :(http://hondajet.hond...ult.aspx?bhcp=1Nahhhh, on second thought, that would just make it waaaay too realistic for FLIGHT ;)
  8. Yeah, they might be heads down working on something...I put in an email to support this morning related to the new version and haven't heard back but I'm totally patient about it.It's worth the wait Charles :)
  9. You're welcome Holland...enjoy! I'm finally able to get to the download now myself and looking forward to exploring the new goodies they've included in this big update.
  10. As a very satisfied owner of their software for over a year, they've just sent me notice that the most recent update is now available for download (2.4.6)...It looks like an awesome update for those who already own it, and if you don't I strongly suggest checking out their website. I believe they still offer a demo period free of charge.I was also blown away to find out such a huge update is still free for current owners...I tell you, in all my dealings with this co. they have some of the best customer service I've ever experienced...and I'm talking about getting support same day email replies on a Sunday for example!!THANK YOU FS++ team!!!! You have definitely delivered Xmas early to this virtual aviator ;)Now if I could just hurry up and get out of the office to go enjoy it.....
  11. I've been trying to make the decision on exactly the same type setup....The one factor which keeps luring me towards ATI Eyefinity is that I only need one GPU vs Nvidia SLI (just not real keen on shelling out several hundred dollars more for a duplicate GTX). The one factor that keeps me from pulling the trigger though, is all this chatter about the tradeoff in performance/quality going from Nvidia to ATI.I've not yet seen nor heard from enough reliable sources which convinces me as to whether there is an actual sacrifice to be made and whether it's large enough to even notice. Don't get me wrong, I love my 560ti and would be really happy if it offered something similar to Eyefinity (and T2go hasn't made me a believer either considering I'd rather just get another 560ti). It would keep me with Nvidia in a heartbeat because it's proven to be a real performer! Until then, I'm pondering all options, since the true goal is good quality three screen immersion :)Either way, please let us know what decision you make...it might prove very helpful. Thanks in advance and good luck ;)Cheers,
  12. Just got an email this morning from EVGA introducing a single card which is the equivalent of two gtx 560 Ti's!!"Experience a whole new level of interactive gaming and combine up to three displays off a single card for the ultimate in 3d entertainment, or disable Surround and combine up to four displays for maximum productivity."It appears to be an alternative to SLI, and EVGA's competitive answer to Eyefinity (http://www.guru3d.com/article/evga-geforce-gtx-560-ti-2win-review/6) Does anyone have further insight or info on these cards?? Would really appreciate since I was about to switch to ATI (a little reluctantly) and pull the trigger on Eyefinity before this little baby showed up today....Yikes!! Just saw it has an MSRP of $519....which makes an ATI 6970 still look pretty tempting! Hopefully it'll drop at retail a bit, but still....Thanks!!
  13. Have never made a livery request before, but would any of you talented gents kindly consider bringing back one of the retro SAS liveries, preferably the belly stripe?I would be extremely appreciative!! Many thanks for all your hard work and devoted time to offer us these beautifully painted birds.
  14. That's fascinating the way the distortion is caused. So visually it slowed your system down enough to where it wasn't 'flyable'?I know on the 2nd video above, those are networked, but then again he's running about 7 displays just for scenery alone!! I'm not at all ready for that stage! In the end, I might do the 3 scenery monitors and 1 panel monitor. Then it's just a question of adding Nvidia SLI with another GPU or switching to ATI Eyefinity and putting the full load on a single GPU 6950 or 6970.Any thoughts on that? Thanks so much!!
  15. I couldn't agree with you more! In fact, one of my main motivations to change the whole setup was the frustration of limited view when trying to turn base or final in my GA's. I can't wait for the wider field of view!! also agree about frame rates...lately I delete any fps read out at the top of the screen. I'd rather evaluate the 'sensation' of flying rather than what the number tells me.I guess to illustrate better what I'm trying to do...it's a combo of elements from the below two videos:If four monitors for scenery, I wish to set them up as split cockpit view between Captain and FO, similar to this video (I know it won't be exact setup for a GA single prop like a c172, but should still work well). The cockpit panel would be shown separate on the lower monitor (so really I would have 5 in total- 4 scenery and 1 panel- the center monitor and FO monitor as shown in video is something I would add later). The 3rd and 4th scenery monitor would be placed on sides of Captain and FO, to give more peripheral field of view, similar to this video (to illustrate side views only): Far as I'm concerned both these gents have incredible setups...and I'm wanting to incorporate some visual concepts from each. Just can't figure out if I should go 3 larger monitors or 4 smaller with greater fov to achieve the desired effect. Thanks for your feedback!!
  16. Thanks Noah: I'm kind of leaning towards the eyefinity for those reasons and having seen quite a few home cockpit videos on youtube with 3 displays+Eyefinity it looks pretty foolproof, which describes me perfectly ;) I just can't seem to find any examples using Eyefinity+4 displays for scenery...so it makes me wonder if something additional is needed to set that up? why doesn't anyone else use 4? too much performance drain? etc. January: Thanks for the great info...I like the way you look at it considering performance and the 'big picture' (pun intended). I think you're absolutely correct in that my eyes wouldn't really discern between and 8% pixel loss overall....I wonder if 4 screens at lower res. vs. only 3 screens but at higher res. would more or less cancel each other out in terms of a performance gain/loss going with either set up....Thanks again!
  17. I could greatly use some help in...monitor & graphic card setup for fsx. My goal is to create a very humble home built cockpit which will build up over the years into something more complex. As a start, I wish to add a new multi monitor setup. Currently I use a single 22" LCD only with a gtx 560ti.What I'd like to do is go with a 3 or 4 monitor setup for scenery using only one graphics card ideally. I'll keep the 22" to use solely as a panel/gauge display during flight. I fly a pretty balanced mixture of add-on heavies and add-on GA props. My two main questions/considerations:1. Should I choose 3x23" LED @ 1920x1080 OR 4x20" LED @ 1600x900 ?2. Related to question #1, should I switch to ATI 6950+Eyefinity OR keep my GTX 560ti and try to add TH2go or another 560ti in SLI?Are there technical conflicts with the above scenarios? any big issue I'm missing and should be looking out for instead?Just to throw out there, I also have the option to add a 2nd older computer with average gpu to run the 22" panel/gauge monitor if necessary....I'm leaning toward the 4x20" with lower res. and changing to ATI card...but I have concerns about whether the lower res. will affect my visual enjoyment or pc performance, along with the ATI card instead of Nvidia. If any other questions about my current build, you can probably find in my signature, or I'll be happy to answer. Please be gentle with the advice, as this is all pretty overwhelming when trying to think of all the possible configurations ;) lolThanks in advance for your help and insight towards this project decision.
  18. Haha!! Thanks Chuck!! I think you were heading towards 'Virtual Aviator' there? a great variation.Yeah, it might even pause them going for that 2nd helping of mash potatoes if we're lucky ;)
  19. Brian, couldn't agree more fully with your articulation above of the sim definition/experience....I've used different terms in the past to describe it to different people, and it's equally interesting watching the variety of reaction. Some get it, some don't. Consider your audience beforehand as well, when you start explaining it to them. For those who understand time spent with computer based software 'hobbies' as generally classified into 'games,' you're probably not going to make much headway with them, regardless of how confidently any of us phrase it. I generally start out by referring to it as virtual aviation training, or a variation thereof. I mean, aviation becomes a way of life, rather than just a game (or even sim), if you're passionate about it....who else do you see pausing to get in their car because they hear a prop overhead and want to look up and identify whether it's a c172, sr22, etc? things like this speak way beyond just the sitting in front of the computer portion of it, as far as I'm concerned at least.....And if all else fails in trying to get someone to take your passion seriously, start talking to them about atc approach vectoring, or the need to monitor EGT during engine start, or how to interpret REL's while the aircraft is taxiing during their next vacation or business flight. In my experience, that usually jolts them out of poking any fun at my 'way of life' !! Grrrrrrrr!!! ;)
  20. It's always comforting to know I'm not alone in doing similar things ;)) makes one feel a bit more sane about the insane passion for this hobby.Keep at it, and thanks for the chuckle!!
  21. Have you seen some of the old pics of the AAL 747's around the web? Beautiful! Quite a shame they're no longer around....
  22. Was wondering if anyone might have some accurate insight as to why American Airlines did away with their 747 program years ago.... was it purely financial reasons based on a/c economics? due to their route development? etc... It would be easy to say a combination of all those issues, but I'm curious as to what played the major factor (there's usually a primary catalyst in most situations). Shame that, to my understanding, they never did a 744 version. Seeing photos, I think those old AA 747-100's look like some of the most gorgeous birds in the sky.... I've read the wiki profile for AAL, but it just doesn't go into as much detail as I'm craving on this topic, so any factual insight is much appreciated!! Thanks.
  23. Please go right ahead Robert, have a few....you certainly deserve it :) Sláinte
  24. From one friendly single malt lover to another, I have no doubt you meant Lagavulin ;) a priority to the very last moment indeed! and thanks for the brilliantly, reasoned out scenario. Made for excellent reading and imagery. Couldn't agree more on your thought processes for bringing her home safely! Cheers, ~Alan
  25. Last week while listening to liveatc.net and tuning to the KSFO tower frequency, the following situation peaked my interest. JBU1432 was on short final for 28R or L (I truly don't recall), and radioed the Tower they needed to perform a go-around. The controller on duty was quite busy, you could tell, and asked 1432 "what's the reason for the go-around", Captain or FO replied and she didn't hear him while handling other traffic... she asked him again more formally when re-directing her attention to it, and he repeated "DUE TO AN RA, M'AAM!".... You could tell he was somewhat annoyed at having to repeat the reason (they were also probably busy handling the specifics of executing the go-around). Can anybody shed light on what an 'R.A.' is and how it affects a go-around decision?? To my best research, it seems to be related to TCAS somehow...but can't find any clear info. Thanks very much. ~Alan
