  1. Hi Martin, Just thought of another question: any chance that 3d monitors will be supported (row interlaced, specifically)? To me flying in 3d in FSX with IZ3D was an incredible and immersive experience. Sadly, IZ3D is no longer available, and the TriDef implementation leaves a bit to be desired for FSX (3d focus issues, needs tridef driver). It should be pretty easy to implement on the windows 8 and higher platforms, since there is a stereoscopic API for windows 8 and higher. https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/dn653361%28v=vs.85%29.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396 Any chance this will see the light of day?
  2. Thanks for finally spilling the beans Martin! Indeed a partnership with Orbx is great news! Are Orbx actually developing new scenery for the DTG sims, or are they implementing stuff they've already developed for existing sims into the DTG sims? It'll be great either way to have a sim that comes with Orbx level scenery as a default. The screenshots also look a lot better than the previous ones. Do you guys by any chance need someone to produce music for DTG? I'm a musician looking to find a way into professional music composing for games, and people recommend me to do some networking to get that ball rolling.. so here I am Once again, looking forward to actually experiencing the new sims. Is there any chance of some video footage of the sim in action any time soon? (I know, we always want more, don't we?).
  3. Ok Thanks for the reply Martin. I will be waiting with bated breath to find out what news tomorrow will bring regarding the scenery. I really hope a new generation of players will jump on flightschool. It'll be an interesting experiment to see how many peeps actually start taking the virtual flying lessons, compared to the amount of people who just want to hop in a plane and take it for a spin themselves. I think my mindset usually fits more in the latter catagory, but it'll be fun to finally learn how to fly a plane by the numbers and by the book, especially if the process is presented in a fun and encouraging way. Maybe it'd help if the instructor was a hot chick Which takes me to my next question: How far and how deep will Flightschool take us along in the process of learning to fly? I mean it's quite a comprehensive subject. The basics are pretty easy, and I'm sure that most people can physically 'fly' (as in take off, cruise and land) a plane in 1 or 2 days if they're complete novices. But then comes the real challenge: navigating a plane, abiding to all the air laws, communication, situation awareness, handling different weather conditions etc. How far will Flightschool dive into these matters?
  4. wow.. good thing it wasn't a 747. I wonder if that plane can still be made airworthy? Were the occupants of the plane OK?
  5. Hi Martin and everyone else in here It's been a million years since I wrote anything on this forum, but since I've picked up my old flightsim habits and given the excitement of having a bunch of new flightsims to look forward to, I'll chip in with some questions. It's been amazing to see what has been done with FSX and allit;s current incarnations already. However, in some regards, it's really showing it's age. Even P3D V3 seems kindof dull and dated compared to what other sims (such as X-plane 10 and War Thunder) bring to the table these days. So I'm kindof wondering what FS and DFS are going to do to entice new players/simmers to give the new sims a try. I think in this day and age, you really have to bring your A-game to still make an impression. Having said that, the new screenshots kindof leave me both optimistic and a bit worried as well. I know, it;s all still a work in progress, and things are bound to change, but here are some of the points that are occupying my mind: -The screenshots look way too blue. It's almost like they were made under water. Maybe they were all made during what's supposed to be early morning, but I don't know.. it looks weird. Maybe you can explain what's going on here? -I've seen you emphasize a living, breathing world. I really hope that that's what things are going to be like. It'd be great if we could have changing weather (not just global weather) where we could see some patches of light and shadows moving along the hills, for example. And as long as we're dreaming, wouldn't it be great if those hills had 3d grass and waving wheat fields on them, blowing in the wind.. or 3d trees that move in the wind as well? I mean that's not pie in the sky these days, though I realize that it'd be difficult for the FSX engine to accomplish such a feat. Then again, in P3D V3 they now allow for speedtrees to be planted, but sadly they can't replace the generic static billboard trees yet. But here's hoping that at some time in the future DFS will look like my dream. Any chance that this may happen? I'm really looking forward to what you are going to reveal about the new scenery technology. I really hope you're getting rid of those old silly oversized houses that occupy cities in FSX and P3D, and replace them with something that looks a bit more like reality. Anyway, with all that said, I'm just really happy that flightsimming is getting a new lease of life, so I can continue with my favorite pasttime on my computer. Thanks for all you're doing
  6. I found this challenge to be a bit frustrating.. no matter how well i 'crabbed' to line up with the runway correctly, the sideskid rating was always too low for me. I never got anything higher than the bronze award. The way i finally got my silver award was by flying towards the runway from the left side, so you're almost flying into the wind. It helps to know that the way your landing is rated is by the actual touchdown.. it has to be a soft landing, on the centerline and without sideskipping/sliding. So what you do is you fly into the wind, flying maybe about 30/40 degrees perpendicular to the runway. You're not going to be able to roll out on the runway, but as long as you make sure your touchdown is gentle, in the middle and into the wind, you should get a good enough score. After that, you'll end up rolling out besides the runway.. make ysure you don't hit any plants/trees and you should be OK.There's probably also a way to do all this correctly, but my patience wore a bit thin with the rating system, so i'm happy to report that this method did it for me :)
  7. Right on.. and then the next question is: 'how do i go to my airport? Can i see my house'. And of course you can, as long as you live on island called 'Hawaii'.
  8. I doubt it. Turn off AI planes and cars and ships in FSX, fly a simple default plane, and you'll see quite the performance increase in FSX as well.. not unlike the one we see in Flight.
  9. They already have the whole world in FSX.. they could include a modified version of that.. maybe include more OSM-derived data, not completely unlike XP10 does.It would still take some time though, but since they have a big team it'd be faster. hopefully. Then again, there are zero indications that MS is interested in it at this time, and they've disgrunteled a lot of devs, so i'm not keeping my hopes high..Instead i've ordered Aerofly FS and will be looking into XP10 :)
  10. The thinbg is.. it looks really good, actually, from a graphics perspective. The way the runways are now integrated into the scenery, much better textures, the place ment of the autogen are miles beyond standard FSX. Just watch a couple of Flight sceenshots and vids and then compare to default FSX Hawaii big island.. that'll give you a retro feel for sure.I'm just disappointed that everything seems so limited in Flight.. i mean 1 whole island isn't much when you're used to having the entire world at your fingertips. All those other missing features (ATC, AI aircraft, more varied aircraft, cars on the roads, etc) isn't going to make things more easily digestible either. Maybe they had to exclude all that stuff to make Flight a more fluid 'experience'. Well, i have to say that if i turn all those things off in FSX, it becomes pretty fluid as well, even on my low end PC.Still.. I really think Flight looks very nice indeed.. let's hope there's more to it than Hawaii and a handful of GA planes though.
  11. You may have noticed that, unlike in FSX, there's just 1 island you can fly over, no AI planes, no cars on the roads, no boats in the water, and just a handfull of GA planes in flight right? So in that respect, i don't think the comparison with even default FSX is fair.
  12. I guess she was kindof a dumb bimbo then eh?
  13. Why not? They've been talking about it since 2009 i think? Nothing tangible has happened since. They may still do something, but all i'm saying is: don't wait for it if you want to be able to fly your new sim before 2050. I mean if a little company like Ikarus can come up with a really cool looking sim in a relatively short time, then what could a team a talented, dedicated and experienced simheads come up with?
  14. Good idea.. but can't you do those things where you are?
  15. Time for developers to gather round, unite forces and come up with their own flightsim.. The engine is ready and waiting to be put to use in the shape of Outerra. Don't wait for Aerosoft to do it, since they're in love with XP10 now.. if you want something less clunky, you're gonna have to do it yourself. I can do the music.. lol.
