  1. I am currently reinstalling FSX and my library of aircraft. I am able to install PMDG 737NGX base and activate it with no problems. However when I try to install any of the patches I get the dreaded 'activation error' that a small number of users sometimes get. From reading through some of the past posts on this issue I don't see where it was fixed. I even installed up through update SP1c with no luck. I had no issues like this when I installed in my previous system. What do I need to do to get 737NGX activated properly and up and running? Thanks, John A. Mason GA
  2. I had to think long and hard before deciding to spend the money for a RealityXP GPS system. I ultimately decided to get a 530/430 setup (no crossfill, etc., however) and couldn't be happier with it. Highly recommended.
  3. I agree with you completely. I'm sure I will be buying the 172 but marketing games like this do nothing but potentially hurt A2A's reputation.
  4. I've had the PA46T for months now but was put off by the lack of a tutorial and cockpit layout map. I know this topic has been talked about before. I found the documentation for the RealAir Turbine Duke to be excellent. It's a shame such a great product as Carenado's PA46T does not have something similar. I wonder if there has been any updates yet... that is has anyone developed a comprehensive tutorial for flying the PA46T?
  5. I don't know how I missed them all these years, but I've never heard of RealAir until this thread. I just picked up the RealAir Duke Turbine/B60 combo (currently on sale). I am very pleased with the quality so far. Excellent documentation. This is what I expect from a commercial product. Gregg, you are right... this is a discussion Carenado should be having. My guess is they aren't interested.
  6. I have to agree with the OP. I find this plane very frustrating due to the lack of documentation and cockpit layout diagram. I think adequate documentation is critical and must be a part of any quality payware add-on. The user should not have to go outside Carenado to hunt for necessary documentation. This is my first Carenado purchase and I'm already put off on buying anything else from them. It's a shame because it's obvious a lot of effort went into modeling the PA46T.
  7. +1 That's what I learned in the navy. It's still true in any environment.John
  8. Ken,From your avatar it looks like you are a naval officer. What community do you work in? I'm a retired submariner (ETCS).V/rJohn
  9. Matt,I think it's funny that you with 12 posts to your name finds it acceptable to tell tripcap7, with 771 posts to his name, that he won't be missed in this forum. You can't be serious, can you? Additionally, *every* customer is important to a company, especially smaller companies.John
  10. You're a retired bubblehead too? I think the odds are pretty low that you'd find three of us flying the same airplane at the same time.
  11. The main thing I'm enjoying right now as I read through this thread is reading everyone's signatures & info! So please make sure you have a good signature so I can see what kinds of cool equipment you all are running on. And if you don't yet have a cool signature, that's something else to do while waiting for SP1. 8-)
  12. Hi Matt, I totally understand where you are coming from.I hope you have a great solo today. And from a retired submariner to a future naval aviator best of luck on your upcoming career! John
  13. No, I'm up in the Athens area. Relatively hurricane-free up here.Hey, maybe we can try and squeeze the 737 down into 4J6 one day. <smile>
  14. That's hilarious, William! Nicely done. 8-)BTW - I retired from Kings Bay back in '94.John
  15. I'd like to echo Skybird05's comment about not restricting the forum to registered users. I think a forum like this should be open to and then moderated appropriately, as this one has been. I always review a company's customer forums before considering a purchase. If I can't find a forum then I don't buy the product. Even with a company with such a great reputation as PMDG's... I don't think I would have bought the 737 (and the 747-400 before that) without being able to review the forums first. Also, there was a comment about whether or not it was 'professional' to talk about personal issues in a general forum. I understand that generally this is something to be frowned upon. However in a group such as this... where there is a certain level of camaraderie in place, I think it's appropriate. I didn't have any problem with Robert's post and appreciate that he shared his situation with us; I respect that.Looking forward to SP1 whenever it's ready.John
  16. Seems as if we've got quite a few submariners here. I've had a couple PM me as well. I was on George Bancroft (SSBN 643), Henry Stimson (SSBN 655), USS Lewis and Clark (SSBN 644), and USS Henry Clay (SSBN 625). If it weren't for the 3 on/3 off schedule I think I would have preferred fast attacks. I got medically disqualed for kidney stones and then went to USS Holland (AS 32) and USS Canopus (AS 34). Tenders suck. I'm back into the cockpit!
  17. Hi Dennis... no, I'm not a nuke, thank God. I'm a retired Strategic Weapons System Navigation ET. I served on four boomers and two submarine tenders. I love submarines and I love the engineering spaces. But I always used to tell the nukes 'it's a nice place to visit but I'm glad I don't have to work here'. lol 8-) ~John
  18. Well, after days of work getting my FS environment setup I've finally completed the 737NGX tutorial #1! What a beautiful plane! It was tough going at first. I had quite a bit of trouble getting everything setup and adjusted. I'm using Saitek X-65F HOTAS along with the SST software and have the basic functions mapped out but that took awhile and I still have work to do. I'm using TrackIR V5 (w/o Pro) for the first time and I had a dickens of a time getting it setup to work properly for me. I really had a hard time with the profiles. I found that the default profiles didn't work at all for me. I had setup a completely new profile that is much more sensitive to my movements. I finally have it setup so that I don't have to move my head too far to see everything I need to see in the cockpit. I had a few crashes at first and found that replacing the UIAutomationCore.dll has helped. At first I was running FSX in windows but I just completed the tutorial in full screen mode (but only using one of my two monitors). I'm not sure what final monitor configuration I will end up with. I'd like to be able to use both screens at some point. Last night I had one screen freeze in the first part of the tutorial... I thought it had crashed but after about 5 seconds it started up again and I was able to complete with no further problems. I'm using FPS Framelimiter 2.0 and ran my configuration file through *******' site. I pretty much followed all of the advice and settings recommended in the NGX Introduction document. I'm getting great frame rates, though I don't trust what FSX is telling me (15fps?). It looks and feels much higher than that. The included documentation is excellent and most appreciated. However a panel layout for all of the screens showing all switch locations and functional areas would be appreciated. Yes, this information can all be pieced together from the FCOMs and other sources but I think a simulation of this quality deserves a few pages of switch/layout information. Thank you to Ryan for the great tutorial... looking forward to part 2. And thank you to all of the PMDG crew for the most realistic, and beautiful, FSX aircraft I've seen. The challenge now will be how to find the time to learn and fly both the 737NGX and DCS's A-10 (another beautiful airplane). John
