May 3, 201214 yr I bought the Carenado P46AT and am very pleased with it. Perhaps I overbought as an beginner to intermediate FSX'er, but I love the cockpit and Garmin instruments. Anyway- I am a little embarassed to say I have not been able to successfully run through the startup and fire the engine up to fly. I suppose I am more accustomed to complete step-by-step documentation and videos for learning an aircraft, but I am a little baffled here. I know there is the checklist in the docs (Shift + 2), but identifying the switches an dprocdure is just not clear to me. I have watched repeatedly at 1080P and full screen on a 24" HD monitor and I still must be missing something. I see the BATTERY button overhead on, then the RADIO MASTER, then GROUND CLEAR then the Garmin ON and the Weather RARAR On...., Ice Door ON, Oil Door OPEN, Master FO/AP ON, Yaw Auto OFF...., Generator ON, PUMP #1 ON, then one of the computers ON and then he appears to HOLD the Ignition to ON for a few seconds and dthen it comes to life after little delay....??? What am I missing here? For me it just doesn't start...I make sure I am not 'P' "Paused" of course....but I just can not get it started. I imagine there is probably also a way to pick the P46AT and "BE" in the air already running and on approach may be but have not figured that out either. Any help very much appreciated... May 3, 201214 yr Phil, Welcome to the wonderful world of the JetProp! She is a beautiful aircraft to fly once you get it started. Here is a link to an earlier post in this forum that might help- http://forum.avsim.net/topic/360385-how-to-start-without-moving/ I hope it helps. Bill
May 3, 201214 yr Author I did read that particular post carefully prior, but thanks for sending a link to it along. I will continue to struggle along with little info here I am afraid unless there is more out there. I have bought a bunch of aircraft over time and had alway heard about the incredible quality of Carenado aircraft. I was smitten with the cockpit of the P46AT for sure, but to say I am disappointed in the documentation would be an understatement. I've read other posts saying Carenado is about the quality of the aircraft itself and that this is typically little and lightweight documentation and that hey don't focus on that....hhmm. I bought the IRIS F-22 Raptor which has massively complex systems and the documentationm there was 54 pages (in one PDF thank you) with dozensof colored diagrams of the controls and systems. I was flying it and using attack RADAR and radio systems very shortly after installation as a result. I guess I will figure this one out too eventually, but if I had it to do this over I probably would look elsewhere for a beautiful sim aircraft I can actually fly and learn about from documentation. If anyone else has any guidance on the start up procedure I will very much appreciate any help...I'm not looking for it to be easy nor simple, but reverse engineering an aircraft on a screen to figure out the operation is pretty rough. Even looking now at the PA46T Normal Procedures PDF, which is simply 14 pages of checklists, when I look under "Startin Gengine" {that's how it's written/typoed in the PDF} it just lists the 'Fuel Condition Lever Cutoff'...that's the only reference I even saw to that control....no reference to it in the PA46T Reference Document - no surprise since that documentation is 1 page, the PA46T Operation Tips & Reality XP integration doesn't mention it (also 1 page document). The Autopilot & AVSS at least is 2 pages.... We'll see what I can sort out but I went from really excited to work with this to pretty disappointed. And, in a pinch, CTL-e will get her started.. I did tyr that at various points....what of what I listed has to happen first??? Or can you just use CTL+E at any point? May be with Battery on? or??? May 4, 201214 yr Even looking now at the PA46T Normal Procedures PDF, which is simply 14 pages of checklists, when I look under "Startin Gengine" {that's how it's written/typoed in the PDF} it just lists the 'Fuel Condition Lever Cutoff'...that's the only reference I even saw to that control I'm not sure, but from your description I think the missing piece for you is the condition lever. That's the 3rd lever over on the quadrant to the right of the prop control - basically where the mixture control would be on a complex prop plane. The "comes to life" part happens when you advance the condition lever as N1 reaches around 10% or so. Try this as well - there's an excellent document freely available on the Real Air Turbine Duke that might make the starting procedure on the JetProp easier to figure out. Go to their downloads page - http://www.realairsi...?page=downloads - and search for Turbine Duke and Help files. The starting procedure write-up (for what's basically the same engine) is excellent. Most of us who love GA planes have multiple Carenados in the v-hangar - 3 of my 4 most flown planes are Carenados for example - but that doesn't mean they don't frustrate us at times. They all have their quirks, and one of those quirks is that Carenado's documentation is, in a word, abysmal. I think you'll love this plane when you get it figured out, but it will take knowledge you glean from other sources. Another thread here that may help once you get past the startup issue: http://forum.avsim.n...52#entry2225652 Hope this helps, Scott
May 4, 201214 yr Hi, When I first discovered the plane, I got the same type of reaction. Now, this is the way I (successfully) proceed : 1/ Battery ON ; 2/ Pumps Check - Alternatively Pump #1 and Pump #2 - Check pressure on the indicator - Then pump out. 3/ Condition lever (the red one) full forward; 4/ Ignition ON (it seems that is the point that you are forgetting) 5/ Start ON maintained pressed until turbine is running; 6/ Generator ON; 7/ Ignition OUT. Then you can think about firing the master avionics, and the various Garmin screens. Don't forget the clock, on the bottom left part of the panel, hidden by the yoke ! Happy Flying !
May 4, 201214 yr I bet this is the famous on again off again issue where the fuel tank selector in the off position actually works like it should instead of the typical way it works with Carenado aircraft as "both". To the OP. Click off the yoke, right below it is the tank selector. Try moving it to the left or right tank and then start it. May 4, 201214 yr Phil,, Did you get the start sequence ok? If not, we could post some screenshots. Best Regards, Vaughan Martell PP-ASEL KDTW
May 4, 201214 yr Author Thanks for asking....A) I have not had time to go back toit for cold and dark startup yet, but B) I have been able to select some airports (St. Thomas USVI e.g.) and when I materialize there the P46AT is running so I have been flying it that way some. May 23, 201214 yr Author Just went back and flew this guy a few more hours. Pretty awesome. How does one make the yoke disappear to get to the fuel selector without having to use a weird camera angle to get under the yoke? May 23, 201214 yr Try clicking the rubber boot where the yoke shaft passes through the panel. This is standard on all Carenado aircraft.
June 9, 201213 yr I've been looking for a long time for a YouTube video on starting the real Piper Meridian PA46T...and I just found a great one. This is worth watching in HD for FSX fliers of the Carenado Malibu PA46T.
