  1. I am trying to install the latest BETA and having the same problem I did with the last one. Per the instuctions on the Flight1 Forum I uninstalled my previous version. When I run the OpusFSX_v271_beta.msi file I get the following error message about a missing cabinet file: http://i1045.photobucket.com/albums/b458/cherokeecruiser2002/OpusBETAError_zps21af99d7.jpg I can download and install the regular updates just fine...seems to only be the BETA. By the way, yesterday when flying the PMDG 737NGX I was descending into KATL and around 12000 feet I encountered some turbulence that made my aircraft yaw violently side to side a few times. I was on an RNAV approach with LNAV and VNAV engaged. It did recover but it seemed a bit over the top for that altitude despite the fact there were some thunderstorms in the vicinity. I do have the turbulence bumps aircraft turned on. I have also been noticing lots of noticeable cloud shifts. I have my cloud draw distance set to 100 in FSX and Detail Radius is large. Overall I think the program is coming along well and the regular updates are great. Hope everyone at Opus Software has a great Christmas!
  2. Captain Sim...not the best on the market by far...
  3. Actually I saw i slight increase in frame rates without AS2012 running any more and just using OpusFSX. As previously stated the only real bottleneck would be caused by any textures that were installed by REX or AS2012. Unfortunately I can't use the 32 bit cloud textures on my machine without sending my FPS into the teens so I use the DTX5 compressed textures @ 1024x1024.
  4. I think you'll be happy with the 660ti. I have everything maxed out and get around 30 FPS in the PMDG 737NGX. I also run Battlefield 3 at Ultra settings and get 60 FPS. It will take some tweaking but its worth it! Make sure you use Nvidia Inspector to get the most out of the 660ti. My max GPU utilization in FSX is 78% and 1.2 of the 2 GB VRAM being used.
  5. I just purchased and downloaded 2.60.8 and have to say I am impressed with the difference from As2012 not only in terms of depiction but performance. The live camera was really easy to set up on all my aircraft and I figured out how to get the transition speed just the way I like it. Why did I decide to go for it? The fact that you offered a demo that let me fully explore the features before purchasing. That along with the great support I see here on the forums made my decision easy. I look forward to continued improvements as your product continues to mature. Thanks again Cheryl!
  6. I have to say while I do like the live camera I think the transition to another view could be a little smoother and more natural. I have tried different settings but it seems to be kind of abrupt no matter what I do. Your weather engine is excellent and once the winds aloft are perfected I will purchase your product. Good work!
  7. Is the camera supposed to work in the demo? I read the user guide but mine still doesnt do anything. For me the choice between OpusFSX or EZCA will come down to how realistic the camera effects are since I already have a weather engine (AS2012). I tried in both windowed and full screen mode. The weather on the ground seemed pretty accurate to me but no different from what AS2012 displayed so its really hard to judge just taxiing around.
  8. After reaching what I found to be good performance I decided to change some of my Inspector settings. Specifically, I upped my Antialiasing to Super VCAA_64x_8v8 and was impressed with the visual improvement. My frame rates did not drop a bit, but using the Inspector monitor while flying around KLGA with AS2012 running I noticed my GPU usage went up to 90% and VRAM used was 1380. It also really sharpened my textures all around. This is the only thing that has really pushed my 660ti so far.
  9. I added this line to my [DISPLAY] Section : TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=2800 Also, my TextureMaxLoad=6 as opposed to the 512 in yours. See if that helps you. It really improved my texture loading.
  10. For FSX I've used an Nvidia 8800 GTS for a couple of years. Three years ago I built a new PC (i7 860 @ 3.6 Ghz) and got an AMD 5850. I never really had to tweak much...it just worked out of the box with no .cfg tweaking either and I got decent frame rates. When the PMDG 737NGX came along I knew I needed a little more horsepower, so two months ago I built a new i7 3770K rig with two SSD's and an Asus GTX 660 Ti. While I am now pleased with it's performance in FSX it did take many hours of tweaking and testing. Honestly I never had a problem with AMD or Nvidia drivers and I have owned both chipsets for over a decade. You will pay a premium for Nvidia versus AMD. If this is ONLY for FSX then I really believe it comes down to personal preference. The new Nvidia 600 series GPU's are extremely power efficient and thus run cooler than the 500 series (Fermi) cards. While the majority of people claim FSX is smoother using Nvidia there are plenty of us that have used AMD cards and have been very pleased with the performance they offer. One thing to keep in mind is that the 660 Ti has a 192 bit memory bus compared to a 256 bit on the 670. The AMD 7950 has a 384 bit memory bus though this is probably overkill for FSX it may benefit other games.
  11. I would spend the extra $70 and get the 670 but I highly recommend using a non-reference cooler design such as Asus, Gigabyte, or MSI because cooling is better. If you can wait a few weeks for Black Friday you'll probably be able to buy one for what I paid for my 660ti ($299).

Price is a little on the high side though. This cracked me up!
  13. Problem solved for me! I posted my .cfg file here http://forum.avsim.net/topic/389591-ngx-performance/page__st__25#entry2509272 Incredible difference in image quality and performance...it just totally blew me away!
  14. Problem solved! More changes to my .cfg file found on another forum thread http://forum.avsim.net/topic/389953-cure-for-flashing-when-changing-views-in-ngx/ not only completely solved my texture loading problem when switching views, but has allowed me to max out my sliders and get BETTER PERFORMANCE!!! Not only that, but my GPU utilization has jumped up to 61% although VRAM usage is about the same. 15. I have the tooltips enabled so I can see my elevator trim setting. Not sure what other way to do it or if it really has a big effect on performance. I dont really notice any difference whether lens flare is on or off on my system.
  16. Thanks for the suggestions. I did try supersampling and while it looked great I picked up some stutters so I changed back to disabled. I will mess around with it a bit more. One other possibility which as a previous reply suggested, would be to move this to the graphics card forum. I am starting to wonder if the 192 bit memory bus is part of the problem on my 660 Ti. My 5850 had a 256 bit memory bus.
  17. If you look at my original post you'll see links to my screenshots. I listed the driver version and another screenshot of my Nvidia Inspector settings. Which other settings would help? This was all installed on a new build so no corrupted drivers. As far as using the built in FSX frame limiter versus an external limiter, there are various opinions on which is better. In my situation there is no difference as I have tried both. I also play Battlefield 3 and get excellent performance (62 FPS) with all settings maxed out but I know FSX is a different animal. Battlefield 3 utilizes 96% of my GPU and 1.8 GB of my 2GB VRAM versus FSX 36% GPU and only 713 MB of 2GB VRAM. As far as sliders are concerned you will see mine are not maxed out either. As a matter of fact these are the same settings I used on my i7 860 @ 3.4 Ghz and ATI 5850 1GB GPU a few months ago before I built my new system. In my new build my frame rates increased about 5 to 8 FPS at identical settings with the Nvdia card. The difference is that now when I switch views from outside back to the vc I have the missing textures shown in my OP. I completely agree that it is unrealistic to expect 30 FPS with sliders maxed, so I turned mine down until I consistently got 30. After that is when I decided to do a bit of .cfg tweaking which did help a bit. Aside from the texture loading problem I am fairly satisfied with the smoothness I am getting. Overclocking to 4.2 Ghz didn't make a noticeable difference to me.
  18. I am having the same issue switching views and like you have followed all the tweaking guides. My frame rates are good and performance isn't choppy at all, but I get a 3 to 3 second delay when going from outside views back to the VC ( http://i1045.photobucket.com/albums/b458/cherokeecruiser2002/FSX/SwitchingViews.jpg) . I didn't have this problem on my old system which had an ATI 5850 GPU. Now I switched back to Nvidia (GTX 660Ti) and I get this. Fresh install Windows 7 Home Premium x64 with 304.87 drivers and recommended Inspector settings. Problem is more pronounced using the PMDG 737 NGX.
  19. Thank you for the suggestions. Just to clarify I have already deleted my fsx.cfg and the problem persisted. The cfg I posted did have some duplicate entries so one again I deleted it and started over with a fresh one. I also followed the various FSX tweaking guides (Word Not Allowed, Ryan, Nick, Bjote) seperately with the same results. My frame rates aren't bad actually....locked using Inspector at 30 and they never go below that. The problem is the missing textures for 2 or 3 seconds when switching views. I read one of the forum posts (cannot remember which one it was now) that suggests when using Inspector you should set your filtering to Triliinear in FSX, not Anisotropic. Honestly I have tried both and don't notice any difference. I do not have this problem in the Level D 767....only in the NGX. The odd thing is that on my old system using an ATI 5850 didn't have that problem...ever. I was rather disappointed after switching back to Nvidia but since it only happens on the NGX. On this new system I did a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium x64 and my Nvidia drivers. Whenever I update drivers I always use Driver Sweeper so I don't believe it is driver-related. I am starting to wonder if upgrading to Prepar3D would help at all. Its more of a nuisance because as I said...my frame rates are acceptable and there really aren't any stutters except the texture redraws when switching views. Maybe I will go back to an AMD card and see if it does away. Again, thanks for all the feedback. These forums are great!
  20. There is a slight hesitation in the Level D 767 when switching from spot to vc but nothing compared to the NGX. I am also getting some tearing in the vc image in both ac.
  21. No luck on any of this helping. I still have the problem when switching from outside view back to the cockpit. I am running the Inspector Monitor while flying and noticed that the max GPU utilization is 36% and maximum VRAM used has been 713 MB out of 2 GB available. I tried increasing my Poolsize= to 70000000 and there was no difference. Then I deleted that line and tried Usepools=0 and there was also no difference.
  22. Thanks for all your responses. I have tried all of these at one time or another but so far not getting good results with the Nvidia card. If I update my Nvidia drivers will Inspector still work?
  23. I have been using the NGX since it came out and recently built a new PC. I have to say that given my new specs I really thought I could crank up the details more but I have been disappointed to say the least. I switched from ATI to Nvidia and I am using Inspector but it seems my older ATI 5850 card performed better than my brand new GTX 660 TI. I currently use the 304.87 Nvidia driver and the recommended Inspector settings I've read on these forums ( AA- 8xS & AF 16x).The most annoying issue I am having now is that I get missing blocks of textures when switching views....something I never had an issue with before. (see picture here http://i1045.photobu...tchingViews.jpg) I tried the Bjote tweaks and various other forum suggestions to tweak my fsg.cfg but had only minor improvements. Then I wiped out my whole fsx.cfg file and started over with a fresh one and it seemed a bit better. I do seem to get slightly better performance not using the widescreenaspectview=true line. I run AS2012 with 1024 compressed textures and my FSX silders are as follows: http://i1045.photobu...X/settings1.jpg http://i1045.photobu...X/settings2.jpg http://i1045.photobu...X/settings3.jpg http://i1045.photobu...X/settings4.jpg http://i1045.photobu...2/settings5.jpg My Inspector settings : http://i1045.photobu...torSettings.jpg My PC Specs are listed in my profile and although I have hyperthreading turned off I haven't noticed much difference overclocking to 4.2 Ghz so i am running at my default turbo mode of 3.9 Ghz. I also have my FSX.cfg listed at the end of the post. It is also important to note that I get noticeably better performance in my Level D 767 but the NGX really takes a performance hit. If anyone can offer any other suggestions I would really appreciate it. I don't need to have everything maxed out but I would at least expect slightly better performance than I got on my i7 860 @ 3.0 GHz and ATI 5850.
