  1. Hey All, Happy New Year!! I'm having huge problems with achieving cold and dark in the default C172. Everything is turned off (battery, alternater, all switches, mixture, avionics etc) but the radio and annuciator lights remain on. I have searched many places, and have tried the following: 1. Change to different aircraft (eg. 737 or Learjet) and turn off APUs, generators, batteries but the same problem occurs in these planes, and the C172 is no different when I change back. 2. Assigned keys for APU, master battery, master generator, master aviaonics and pressed these in the C172. Still no change. 3. I downloaded a dark and cold save file. I started FSX and loaded it. The C172 was cold and dark. Changed paint, still cold and dark, selected airport YSBK and slewed to parking, still cold and dark. But when I changed the time from daytime in 2006 to early morning May 2012, all the radios, annuciators and clock turned on again, even though switches all still off. I am at a loss at the moment, and any help would be appreciated!
  2. Even growing up in the 90s/00s, Thunderbirds was a huge part of my childhood!! My dad intorduced me, and from that point, I was entranced by the magic of International Rescue (and still am!) What an amazing creation, RIP Gerry Anderson!! I have this exact model sitting on a shelf in my room!! It's pretty cool, opens up and everything!
  3. Have a look at Paul's How-to doc. There is a handy v-sync section, but basically Standard and 1/2 refresh rate in nvidia inspector for vertical sync tear control and vertical sync in Nvidia inspector, lock fps at 30 in fsx, and in the .cfg: [Display] UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=30 If still no luck, then DisablePreload=1 in [Main]. That one fixed all my tearing woes! Bonne chance!
  4. Is this limited to just this airport? When I first installed the patch all of my runways and taxiways disappeared in most of my airports, and I do beleive it was as simple as reinstalling the patch properly (this was before the installer was released) so I reccomend running the installer again and just making sure that there is not Shaders10 folder in C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\FSX
  5. Just to clarify is it UiAtomationCore or UiAutomationCore? I went throught the process a long time ago, but I noticed that I have the latter in my root folder. Other threads reference uiautomationcore as well.
  6. I have that problem too! I have an integrated laptop, and even though in Nividia drivers and other settings FSX is run with the Nvidia 310M, in the graphics menu in fsx the integrated graphics is the only graphics drop down option. It also means that there are two [display.XXX] entries in the .cfg, one of the 310M from when I was using dx9, and the integrated intel graphics from DX10. However, I have noticed that in NVI the Nvidia GPU is being used when fsx is running, so I would say that it is nothing to worry about, and unless it is obvious that the weaker card is being run in game, I would ignore it. Unless anyone does come up with some sort of fix.
  7. I put this in a few days ago to reduce loading times and I was wondering why there were no stutters all of the sudden! So simple! I wonder what the connection is between smoothness and preloading? Doesn't the tweak just stop it loading the default "falling at friday harbour" flight? Very interesting
  8. Great article! I have also tried the 2xMSAA setting in the cfg, and while it made a slight difference (still a fps drop), the visuals were pretty poor. I will give Steve's beta shader a try, but if all else fails I will have to go with 2x AA. Ideally I'd love a new gpu, but I am on a student budget, and when I bought my laptop I never thought I would get into any sort of gaming… go figure!
  9. I understand that in dx9 when AA was set in app controlled in nividia inspector, fsx excluded the clouds from AA. Is this the same in dx10? The reason I ask is that even with inspector set to app controlled and a fresh .cfg, when I even look at a single cloud in dx10 with in game AA turned on my fps plummets from 25 to around 10-12 which is not fun. I even have REXE dxt5 512 clouds installed. However, by turning AA off, clouds do not have any impact on fps. This seems to say that under dx10 clouds are anti-ailised no-matter what, which is unnessecary and obviously will kill a weak gpu like mine due to the complexity of the clouds. So basically can clouds be excluded from AA in dx10?
  10. Affinity Mask basically allows you to select which cores of the cpu fsx uses. Have a look here for how to calculate it for whatever cpu you have and if you have hyperthreading on or off: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/241915-hyperthread-fsx-i7-and-you/ or to calculate here http://fsxtimes.wordpress.com/2010/08/18/affinitymask/ (or just google it!)
  11. Just wanted to say thanks a lot Steve for all your hard work!! Especially for people like me with pretty average systems, having dx10 preview mode working has made looking great and still getting frames into the 20s!! Thanks again, and I look forward to whatever you fix next!! :drinks: Mat
