  1. I know this was discussed years ago (early XP 10); but has anyone found a way to increase the LOD in XP to get rid of the buildings fading (going transparent) at a near-distance? My view distance settings are at max with extreme objects; flying around Miami is annoying with buildings only coming into full view when I am near them. It would by nice to see solid buildings on the coast line from a distance instead of these ghost buildings!
  2. Hey, thanks Tonywob!!! The find / replace method worked perfectly. The scenery looks great..
  3. I downloaded the file and simply replaced the old world-models folder. the flashing lights are still there using w2xp_America scenery. Hopefully I am doing something wrong as I know you have worked hard on this over the past few days. Can you let me know your replace term? I am not sure how to find Light_Named and replace the "entire line" with nothing.
  4. Thanks for your attention to this...I will download and try!!!
  5. Something may be up on my end, then. Because the Newark airport is like a freak show with the lights for me. My light.obj file only has the following... I 800 OBJ POINT_COUNTS 0 0 0 0 Can you confirm what version of world-models you are using? I may have the wrong version...I know I downloaded several of them. Thanks for your input. At least it does work.
  6. Hi, I deleted the two lines in the light.obj file located in W2XP_America. Unfortunately, I still get the flashing strobe type lights on the tall buildings. I am flying out of KPHL and center City Philadelphia look like a Christmas Tree...lol. Could there be something hardcoded in the building files that are used?
  7. Hi Tonywob, I tried to disable the "obstacle-light" in the config file by setting it to false, but when I regenerated the scenery, the building still had the strobe lights. I will try the method you described in the post above. thanks again.
  8. Each side makes interesting points. The bottom line for me is...if you make a broken v2, then you should fix it first before offering v3. Making fixes to bugs in v2 and charging for it will not garner my continued support of the product. At the very least, LM could have given everyone with v2 the core system (optimization, fixes etc.) updates; and then made you pay for the new features such as Avatar, Speedtrees etc offered in v3 if you wanted to upgrade. LM is hindered by their pricing structure.. I don't think many will fork over $200 for a slightly better P3D, especially when you can get it cheaper; which (IMO) is the problem here....too many Academic sales leaving LM wanting more money sooner (as I suspect P3D is a subsidized product line). To top it off, DTG now has the upper hand using steam to reach more of those would be academic customers without the licensing nonsense. So....no V3 for me....maybe v4 or v5...when LM makes some "serious" advances in P3D's features and performance...that is...if DTG doesn't steal the show in the flight sim arena.
  9. Thanks for your help... I am trying the files by state, but I do not know how to save/format the .poly files. The file opens is my browser and I tried to save it in a text format with (.poly) extension. Saving it from the site attempts to save it in html. Either way, the program failed to process this file. I don't know how to get it from the site to my hd in a compatible format that works with world2xplane. Got it to work for Florida...thanks for your help. I only fly in PA, NJ, and FL...so the state only idea was perfect!!!
  10. Thanks for your help. I have 8G of Ram. The initial run showed "Unable to resume: OSM file is different is from source used to generate" I then downloaded the latest World-Models. Now the process just hangs at "First Pass" message; I can still see the memory meter moving and the created file is about 110mb after about 30 minutes and remains the same size after about 18 hours.
  11. Thanks for your first impressions; I also do GA flying and never had OOM issues. If LM really has not addressed the fps / stutter issues, then I think many v3 customers won't be happy about paying for the same (or slightly better) performance.
  12. Thanks Tonywob, The Simheaven generated scenery looks great. But your last post "kind of" puts me back to square one. I also want to get rid of the obstacle-lights, so I need to regenerate the region using the pbf file that never really worked for me using world2xplane.exe. The program seem to rune for 18 hours stuck in the first pass stage. Can you help me with this process?
  13. To answer the thread title, Yes, P3D v3 = P3D v2.6....to me. If you don't like it, don't buy it...and if you don't like someone's opinion, then disagree and move on. However, some people seem to want to police the boards to make sure no one says anything contrary to "their" opinion or against P3D. What are we talking about here? V3 release notes are filled with bug fixes that V2 users should get without having to pay more for it. If you have "new" features, then fine, charge for them; but bug fixes should be freely given that V2 had many issues to begin with. LM should have started with a subscription pricing model (annual fee of $50 or so) and gotten ahead of the pricing controversy that put them in the current position of wanting more funds now because many people chose the cheaper "academic" option in v2. While I originally did not like Micrososft's direction with their office suite subscription, at least you have the latest and greatest version instead of being stuck with an old unsupported version. The constant funding pays for constant improvements. So no, I don't need to "play" V3 when I can clearly see in both the release notes and the "quick" vid already posted that noting warrants me spending more money to get V3....that really is v2.6. If you like and buy v3, I am happy for you. However, to condemn the customers who feel abandoned in v2 land is simply selfish. You either like it or you don't, and nothing is wrong with either decision. So I will continue to fly v2.5...it works for my needs. When P3D can have a well running, stutter free performance at 15 LOD radius or more; have a full 3D ground environment; and have more realistic night lighting, then I pay more money. The goods news is....I think they will get there in the future, so I will pony up the cash then. In the meantime, I wait to see what DTG will bring to the sim world mix.
  14. Real Terra Haze allows you to control light intensity.
  15. Thanks Jcomm, I have that, but I was trying to build the entire region using the .pbf file from http://download.geofabrik.de or are you saying that W2XP_America is the entire region? I thought I had to generate the region with world2xplane.exe and the pbf file. My original title / post is misleading as I am not sure what all of the components mean.
  16. Thanks for the responses thus far.... I have the latest "World Models v0.7.3 from (2nd July 2015)" from w2xp, Now the world2xplane.exe program never gets beyond the "First Pass" part of the program and the folder it creates is only about 110mb after running more than 18 hours. I wish someone could post a ready made region for America and have us download it without this process that doesn't seem to have a straightforward method to create the scenery.
  17. Thanks I get an error when running world2xplane.exe "Unable to resume, OSM file is different from source used to generate."
  18. Hi, I downloaded x2wp_America, which directed me to download the following... - OpenSceneryX (http://www.opensceneryx.com/) - R2 Library (http://r2.xpl.cz/) - FF Library (http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=12836) - world-models library (http://simheaven.com/?wpfb_filepage=w2xp_world-models-7z) I downloaded the 4 additionsl files, unzipped them and placed all 5 folders in my Xplane\custom scenery folder. I read on http://world2xplane.com/2014/03/12/quick-start-guide/ that I needed to run World2XPlane32.exe and select a pbf file. My questions 1) What pbf file is the directions referring to? I dont seem to have one for America (found this) 2) How large will the genrated scenery be on the hard drive for w2xp_America? 3) Is there a performance impact? I currently get 30fps stuutter free flights in most rural areas and small ciites. 4) is there an easy way to delete or restore my defaul scenery? Thanks for any help with this!
  19. @alpha12125 - Thanks, I will give W2XPL a try. @cptCaptain - Thanks, I will use these settings.
  20. Thanks for your reply. I don't yet use W2XPL.
  21. I recently downloaded RTH... The initial settings made my plane lights really big, so I turned down the light intensity to get the plane lights to look normal. However, the street lights became too small to see. I then noticed other light setting that I have not yet been able to set correctly to get a balanced lighting effect. Question 1 Can someone share their light settings such that I can have a good starting point? Question 2 When I adjusted the light distance scale at night, the street lights did not seem to become any more visible farther out from the plane. Is there a hardcoded limit as to how far off one can view street lights?
  22. Regarding the whiteout issue, I am running 10.36; was this issue resolved in the upcoming 10.40 patch or is there an option I need to enable to get rid of the whiteout?
  23. I mainly fly approaches (not airport to airport) from saved flights. Is it possible for ASN to create weather from a saved flight or a set airport (and surrounding area) without creating a flight plan from airport to airport?
  24. Thanks...I have the exact same cpu / gpu. I just increased my cpu to 4 ghz. Lowered settings make no difference for me,
