  1. Ok, you guys are way over my head with this discussion but I have one question. Is it possible that the next FS from Microsoft will have embedded ads? Now that would be a very strong deal beaker.
  2. Security. Any work I do on the web is done with a laptop with the best possible security I can buy. And the laptop runs Win 10. My desktops (2) are single purpose for running FSX.
  3. Thank you Fr. Bill. I didn't know that. You just saved me a large expense. I'll just stick with what I have, which is more than adequate. Rick
  4. I will buy it unless: 1. I must be on line to use the sim. I run FSX off line except for maybe 30 sec to download weather for each flight. 2. There is a subscription or monthly charge. I want to buy it outright and use it via a license, as in FSX and all before. 3.It is not compatible with Win 7 64. Rick
  5. So sorry to hear of his passing. A giant in our world. May God Bless.
  6. I wonder what market size they plan to address with this new sim. They obviously have all the data on the earlier sims. I've always wondered how many serious simmers (as we are) there are out there as an addressable market. Anyone have any idea? Rick
  7. I was trying to say that the P3D shot looks better than mine, but the MS2020 view blows them all away, except Google earth.
  8. Correct Al. I was trying to say my system looks better than the stock FSX (it better after thousands of dollars spent:), but not quite as good as P3D with Orbx. P3D has no real LOD constraint and I give Orbx the nod over GEX/UTX in this setting.
  9. I agree with all. I run FSX with GEX/UTX/ASN/REX and so on. I run LOD=6, and Autogen on Very Dense. I flew over to Marseille and made a screen capture of the point shown above. It looks much better than the stock FSX shots but not as good as P3D and Orbx. I have no way to upload it though. But none of those look as real as the MS2020. But then france89 posted the google earth shot and that amazed me. Note in particular that MS2020 captures the transition to shallow water. I would be great if MS2020 starts out at FSX+++++ Rick
  10. Ooops. Typo. Should have said "...would NOT trade good aircraft, good weather, and good airport models for high quality landscape...." 🙂
  11. After staring at these for hours, I conclude that we are not in bad shape now. It all depends on the individual simmer desire. Sure, I like good scenery, emphasis on "good". But I would trade good aircraft, good weather, and good airport models for high quality landscape. I want the terrain accurate, but I don't really care if I can't find my town, my street, my home. Other guys want high res scenery. That's great. I fly a lot at 370, other guys fly VFR low and slow. This is what makes this such a great lifelong pursuit. Bring it on MS !! 🙂
  12. Very impressive. I just worry we will need 6.0 or higher on the CPU and who knows what on the GPU.
  13. Thanks Simmer. Think I'll go look at Marseille with my fully tricked out FSX. Rick
  14. Very instructive and helpful. Do any of the shots of FSX include UTX, GEX, Autogen upgrades, and something like Genesis? Thank you all. Rick
  15. Thanks Jim. I guess I need another re-install. I like the Capt Sim stuff so far but I have needed multiple reinstalls to get everything to work. Thanks Rick
  16. Hello Jim: I am a newcomer to CS 757 and like what I see so far. I've flown a number of flights and have 2 nagging issues I don't understand and would appreciate any light you can shed. I am running the latest 1.4 level, having just downloaded it yesterday. 1. I do not hear v1, Rotate, v2, or any callouts at all on approach. Isn't there supposed to be such? All other sounds seem fine in the cockpit, switches, buttons, etc. 2. I can't seem to get the terrain display to work. I see the callout on the HSI but no terrain. And I just flew into RNO with lotsa terrain. Grateful for any help or pointers. Rick
  17. Where I say "panel cfg" above, it should be "panel state". Sorry Rick
  18. Hello all: After installing the latest version of NGX I am seeing some unusual behavior in loading panel cfgs. At start up, I have specified NGX Short, which works fine. However if for some reason I need to close FSX during a flight and save the flight, when I reopen the flight later the correct panel cfg does not load with the FSX flight. Instead I see the cockpit but the "warm up time" does not occur and the panel screens are blank and buttons or switches do not respond. This behavior started after installing the latest update. Previously when I loaded the interrupted flight the cockpit would load perfectly including the route in the FMS and all the AP settings. Perfect. So I wonder if anyone else has seen this, or would have a suggestion for me. Thanks Rick
  19. Thank you for the quick response. I do use the Pause at T/D function, and there is a little custom lua that one of the guys coded up that supports pause after a chosen number of minutes, and that also works well. So it is not that I don't have options, but I was curious if anything has changed. And I also understand that 1/2 time probably is not used very much, if at all. I suggest you give it a try sometime when you have few minutes. It would be interesting to know that my system has a bug, although I do use the 1/2 time with other aircraft. Thanks again, Rick
  20. Hello all: Occasionally it is useful for me to run an FSX flight in slow time, 1/2 real time, for a period while I attend to another matter away from the computer. I run FSX Boxed. Earlier versions of the 737 NGX apparently did not support 1/2 time as the aircraft would lose control and drift down to crash if left unattended in 1/2 time. Does anyone know if this is still the case with the latest version, which I just installed a couple weeks back? Thanks in advance Rick
  21. Thanks Sam. Yeah, you are probably right. From an implementation perspective it is tied into the anti-skid brakes and of course the WX and may be beyond the sim's capabilities.
  22. Let's remember that the Lion Air crash may have been averted had the crew previous to the accident crew been more descriptive and conclusive in logging their problems on the previous flight. The accident crew took over an airplane that should have been grounded for equipment fault.
  23. Hi all: Does anyone know if the braking action with Autobrake is affected by the runway condition? Of course in the RW the braking action is definitely affected by water or other contaminant on the surface. I just wondered whether PMDG had gone to that length depending on the WX. Thanks in advance Rick
  24. Yeah Asticou (Maine?), I don't buy a lot of Carenado but I think their business plan is to turn out beautiful visual models and good FDE, but just provide clicking switches for the systems, then move on quickly to the next project. I don't really expect them to fix our issue.
  25. Just so you know, I went the ticket route on this and Carenado said they could not reproduce the problem. They asked to send them pics or a video, but I had no way to do that so it died right there. Problem still exists in my system
