  1. I just landed after a flight from MBGT to KSAF. Headwinds were brutal and right out of the west,as is normal this time of year. I don't use a planning tool but here is how I plan my trips: ZFW includes 6 pax + jump sea FA + 800 lb baggage/cargo Fuel Plan 1600 LB taxi, TO, climb out Estimated average GS 380 kts with 80-100 kts head wind today (courtesy ASN). 120 nm climb out 1600 lb; cruise FL390 120 nm descent 800 lb For a 3000 nm trip, hours at cruise 2760 nm at cruise at 380 kts average Time at cruise 2760/380= 7.2 hrs at cruise; long ride Fuel burn at cruise 2200 lb/hr @ M.80 Total fuel at cruise 7.2x2200=15840 lb; uh-oh Reserve 1200 lb Total fuel trip 15840+1600+800+1200=19440 lb Uh-oh. Not getting there today without a refueling stop. Headwinds awful. Much better ride going East. 🙂
  2. Hats off to FSW for creating an environment where aircraft technical experts, simmers, and developers get together and contribute to a dialogue aimed at making the product the best it can be.
  3. Could someone please tell me how to listen for the new flap sounds? In FSX Sound settings I have Engines at 20%, Environment at 20%, Voice at 100%, and Cockpit at 100%. I hear the new wheel whine just fine (great addition), engines ok, and the previous loud flap sound is gone, but I don't hear any sound when lowering the slats and flaps, either in the cockpit while flying, in the cockpit on the ground, or outside on the ground. What am I doing wrong? PS: FSX boxed
  4. So far I have 3 flights completed on 1.8. I saw flashing and artifacts twice. Once at altitude and was able to stop it simply by going to the menu bar and having the FSX screen disappear. When I returned, it flashing was gone. Another time flashing began immediately when FSX was launched. I closed FSX and reopened, and flashing was gone. Seems to be improved. Will keep flying and report.
  5. I also saw the throttles sticking in 1.8. When I throttled back almost to where they would be at idle, they recovered and responded to movements.
  6. Will there be any new improvements for the flashing and artifacts for us poor 32 bitters?
  7. Great news Ramon. Your work will be greatly appreciated.
  8. Hi all: I thought it might be useful to add some positive comments to the forum on the Falcon. First I run FSX Gold boxed. 1. Of course the Falcon looks good, interior and exterior. Carenado has a knack for creating the VC models that result in a high degree of immersion. 2. Sounds are very good and also immersive. 3. The Falcon is solid as rock software stability wise. I have accumulated around 100 hrs since release and I have not had any kind of crash or OOM. 4. The ground handling is excellent and also very stable. Easy to look good while in taxi. 5. Hand flying is very stable and smooth. What I like very much is the trim response. It is gradual and also very stable, just as I imagine the RW aircraft might be. The aircraft in the sim feels heavy and stable, as one would expect in a 40000 lb aircraft. 6. Throttles are smooth, easy to synch, and gradual in spooling up. Again, helps with hand flying. 7. I have flown many flights with Ramon's excellent GTN mod and I have enjoyed each one in VMC and IMC. 8. Recently I have also been flying with the Proline 21 system which is installed as original equipment. I must say that it helps in mastering this system to review the Carenado tutorials on the web. Since I have flown so much with the Boeing CDU in the PMDG aircraft, there is a tendency to jump right in and apply the Boeing experience to the Proline. This, as I found, is a recipe for frustration. After watching the tutorials I was able to master the Proline in short order. I'm sure the implementation in the Falcon is nowhere near the RW Proline but for the purposes of the sim, it gets me where I want to go, and gets me on the ground "safely". And once again, software wise it is very stable. It will recover from mistakes, many of which I have made, and gets the aircraft back on the flight plan with minimal disruptions. 9. I know there is much discussion concerning aircraft systems. I have no experience with this aircraft in the RW so I am not able to judge the accuracy of the presentation of the electrics, hydraulics, fuel management, etc. What I do know is that the controls and displays all seem to be there and one is able to execute RW checklists with the various buttons and switches. Whether the buttons and switches are connected to a system simulation running in the background, I am unable to judge. I have not purposely tried to break the airplane to see if it does indeed break. I'd be interested in comments by members who have RW experience in piloting or maintenance of the Falcon. All in all the Falcon is certainly among the very best add ons I own currently. Rick
  9. Same here for 1.7B, but I also saw flashing in 1.6 as well. Just for the record. I wish some other guys using FSX boxed would chime in yes or no on flashing so FSW would have a larger sampling. Also probably P3D 32 bit, or maybe 64 bit if they are seeing any flashing or artifacts. Rick
  10. Mark: I should add that my flights are always 2-3 hours or more. The flashing and artifacts rarely happens at the departure airport or climb out. Usually well into the flight or at the arrival. Maybe there is some sort of cumulative thing going on similar to VAS? I run Win7 Pro 64, GSX, UT2, UTX, ASN with REX 1024 clouds, and do not load add on airports unless going there. I see frames 30+ and almost never see an OOM. Who knows what might cause the occurrence? So I thought I would throw this in. I'll try that [SIM] OPTIMIZE_PARTS=0 today. I know it is said to be a P3D tweak, but who knows? Rick
  11. I alsoposted this in the 1.7 thread. Didn't know where to go. I saw flashing and artifacts in 1.6. FSX boxed. I parked the Falcon 1.6 for several weeks due to the flashing, understanding that there was a prospective fix for the flashing in the major update that was forthcoming. So I installed 1.7 and made the first flight with no flashing or artifacts. The next flight I did see some but reloaded the aircraft and it went away. So today I installed 1.7A and was flash free until the taxi after landing. Clobbered with flashing and a large blue artifact across the VC wind screen. Of a minor note there are some rectangular artifacts in the overhead in the passenger cabin. So, back to the hanger. I hope we can get a fix for this sometime. On a very positive note the throttles are now great! Easy to manually synch due to the increased displacement at higher N1s. Great! Of course the change in the textures is incredible, with no apparent hit on frames or VAS. Well done!! Rick
  12. Same here Bill, only I also saw flashing and artifacts in 1.6. FSX boxed also. 13. I am also seeing rectangular shapes in the passenger cabin overhead. FSX boxed
  14. Hi Ramon My goodness I never expected you to fix stuff like the floating junk. Your work is way more important. Please forgive me if I gave that impression. Floating objects and the like are stuff Carenado should fix without doubt. Thanks again for your work. Rick
  15. Also the external power unit. Floats in the air.
  16. Hi all: I'm wondering if something went right by me. 🙂 Does the latest GTN 750 have capability to control altitude on arrivals and departures as it does on RNAV LPV approaches? Seems like I saw this somewhere on the web. Thanks in advance Rick
  17. Hi Aharon Yes, I own the same scenery. I do admire your screen captures from different perspectives. Very nicely done. Rick
  18. Did you see Bryan and Joe? Lowell? Or the beautiful Helen? All from a wonderful TV series in the 90's. Rick
  19. Thanks Rich. Very helpful. I did misspeak about the IAS function. On this F50E it is FLCH, rather than IAS, but the same comments hold. The FLCH function is based on IAS and has no automatic or manual switch over to Mach. So I have been doing as you described, watching the tape as the Mach increases and fiddling with the speed wheel to lower the FLCH speed to control the Mach. This is all on climb as I use V/S exclusively on the descent and adjust the throttles to maintain speed. I was hoping the Mach Hold button would convert FLCH to Mach but your explanation clears that question. I do notice that the throttles are very easy to synch on this aircraft so maybe there is some sort of DEEC or FADEC code running in the background to synch the throttles. This Carenado add on flies very well and the ground handling is among the best out there. Do you do sim Rich and do you own this aircraft? It's great to hear RW experience. Thanks again Rick
  20. Hi all: Just a quick question, probably a quick answer will do it. 🙂 I use the IAS constantly in climb out and it works fine. However my question is on the transition from IAS to Mach. There is a knob low on the pilot's panel which can be used to change the left PFD marked speed from IAS to Mach. And there is a Mach Hold button next to the throttle synch button on the center panel. I formed the opinion that the knob and Mach Hold button could be used to switch the hold speed to Mach, and then to make adjustments. However, It doesn't seem to work that way. I cannot find any way that causes the AP to hold Mach during climb. Please tell me what I am doing wrong. Thanks Rick
  21. The flood lights do exactly the same flash and out after dark.
  22. I had this problem early on. After a couple of weeks, great support from FSW, and several new F50 versions, it just went away and I had the sounds. Never understood why. I am using Win 7 64 Pro. Did you mean to say you were using the 32 bit Win 7? Rick
  23. I rarely fly at night but when I do the airports with taxiway lighting are not my issue. It's the airports, smaller ones, that do not have lighting. Then we must follow the stripes.
  24. Thanks Mark. We'll keep our fingers crossed. As you said earlier, maybe at some point there could be a fork in the road for 32 and 64. Remember Yogi Berra...."..when you come to a fork in the road, take it...." 🙂 Rick
  25. But how about VAS for us 32 bitters? I have trouble imagining that such beautiful work doesn't have a price. Rick
