  1. Hey everyone, I need a little bit of help For some reason my game isn't loading at all. I press on my launcher, the load screen pops up for about 10 seconds, then disappears completely. I've opened up the task manager to watch the process, and it looks like it just kills the process itself for some reason. I have absolutely no idea why this is happening. Before this happened, I was installing FSInn, then changed the program version to let FSInn work again. Since then, the sim won't start at all. I've even tried running my backup copies of the launcher, and no dice. I have also tried removing the prepar3d.cfg files, and that also didn't work. Any and all help would be appreciated, thanks!
  2. There are a few steps to get the plane to hover, but it WILL work. Firstly, you have to remember this plane is STOVL (Short Take Off Vertical Land). Like others mentioned, it only works if you are within the weight limits which are relatively low. What this means is that the USMC would use short take off to get off the ship, and then after the mission they would weigh a lot less, so they could land vertically. When you do VTOL, you must lower the weight of the plane, the easiest is fuel, as it always loads you full of it. I usually use 25% on everything. After you do this, press the HOOK/STOVL button on the left. You will then notice that the word HOVER is now blue, not red. Press that button, then your nozzles will rotate. Pull back on the stick to climb, push forward to decend.
  3. This is probably one of the best, if not the best aviation-related video I have ever watched. Thanks for sharing!
  4. I actually like the new look. The chrome started looking really... "old" to me.
  5. I have ForeFlight for real world flying, and there is actually a free program you can run on your computer to connect it to ForeFlight, FlightSimGPS. I can't recommend ForeFlight enough, it's a great app, but can be pricey. Also, it doesn't have any airway charts outside the USA, unless you pay for Canada on top of it. Other than that, it has all you need- Flight planning, ETA/ETE, fuel burn, weather (METARs, TAF, Winds Aloft, and graphical charts), arrival/approach/departure/taxi charts, everything.
  6. What settings do you guys use? I just got done with the absolute worst flight I have ever had with ActiveSky 2012. Indianapolis to Memphis, FL380, MD-11. Takeoff was good, and everything was fine until the decent started. The wind started shifting 10* back and fourth a few times a second, along with fluctuations from 100kts to 80kts. All was still going alright until I decend through 9000 ft (still a 100kt headwind, unheard of at 9000ft) and suddenly it shifted to a straight 20kt tailwind. Needless to say, I stalled out big-time, from 210kts IAS to 90kts. I managed to recover at 2000ft and limp my way on to 36L. I don't understand the settings on this program at all. I am running DWC, and have tried all the smoothing percentages with no luck. I haven't bought FSUIPC, but I seriously doubt it would have any effect on the 100kt wind at 9000ft anyway, however I know the wind shifts wouldn't be nearly as bad. Before you say anything, winds aloft at Memphis at the time of the incident I just had were reported 220 @ 53. Winds I received were 190@100, then 040@20.
  7. Ah, I didn't know that. In the 787 I believe that you need to throw some switches, or at least that's what I took from the "Legends of Flight" movie.
  8. Actually, you have to disable the laws of the Boeing first to be able to maneuver the plane outside of the envelope. Same goes with the 787. I don't know that much about Airbus, but from what I understand you can't override the computer if it doesn't deem the maneuver safe. This reflects the philosophies of the companies.
  9. Failures will happen in the NGX... I actually had my nose gear get stuck down one flight, then promptly buckle upon touchdown.
  10. Exactly. It will auto-tune for you. And I support fly-by-wire also, but Boeing's way more-so than Airbus. I can see both sides. Both companies create some amazing aircraft either way. That's not what I'm saying, every airliner is extremely automated. I just feel more comfortable if I can control the end result if I see a bad situation about to occur that the computer can't see. I am a fan of any company that can let me fly.
  11. I don't own the PMDG 747, however I do own both the MD-11 and 737NGX. While flying the NGX, the systems will automatically sequence to the next way-point or VOR, just like in the real thing. Also, just to input my $0.02, I would rather fly a Boeing over an Airbus simply for the fact that if it comes down to it, I KNOW I can have sole control of the aircraft if need be. Honestly, I would fly just about anything though. A mentor of mine flew an F-16 for about 10 years, and it has a similar system where everything is ran through the computer. His pitot tubes froze upon cimbout and the computer wouldn't let him pitch over. He stalled out at 30,000ft. Still unable to maneuver the plane due to the computer, he was forced to eject. I sure hope Aerosoft comes out with their CRJ-700 soon.....
