FSL vs Airbus Extended vs PMDG...Which one ?

Featured Replies

I was asked this question and as much as I wanted to answer it, I could not provide a good answer. So, I rushed to check if FLS Airbus was released...it has not. I hurried to check PDMG's website and saw no Airbus320. I then dived towards the FSX forum and found out some people commenting which one is/would be better.

Then, I put on my thinking cap and I had some questions to my self. Why are we comparing the Aerosoft Airbus Extended to PMDG or FSL ? I noticed this issue has sadly become an issue of more of an Airbus Vs Boeing issue even in the world of Real Aviation Forums. You have folks who have never "flown" or taken the time to LEARN how to fly the Airbus saying that they don't like Airbus. Then you have those who cannot remove their eyes away from PMDG, and they will swear (I even jump off a cliff), that PMDG is better than Aerosoft's. (Go figure)

Now that Airbus X has been released I can assure you that I have not seen a more highly developed (detail) and beautiful a/c in flight simulations. The textures are second to none. The landing lights effects are superb, and only the real a/c could look better. The fight systems are outstanding! And, this is an honest (open-eyed) feedback- not a "fan-boy" feedback ! Therefore, will FSL be better? We don't know; let us wait for it to be released. Would PMDG be better; asked Bro. Randy to develop one...Until then, enjoy your flying and have fun... LOTS of FUN !!! And, please provide realistic feed-back; not imaginary ones...So, we can benefit from an honest and transparent feedback.

PMDG is not developing an Airbus...why would you think so?

Different markets, the Aerosoft is a simpler model, but it packs a punch over their previous Airbus. I quite enjoy it, high quality graphics, some very good features like the ability to have the MCDU on your ipad, the views menu, etc...not bad for a $40 add on!

The FSL Airbus looks to be the ultimate in realism, if their forums and the development team are anything to go by...they are aiming for a level of realism that a $40 add on will not do, so it will cater for a different audience. As far as I am concerned, I am extremely glad to have new Airbus releases in the market!

I'm sure the guys from FSL (inc. all their testing team) are itching to tell you their product will be better.

There are a lot of flight systems missing - or, at least, only partially simulated - on the Airbus X Extended that will be present on the FSL A320-X. That said, the guys at Aerosoft have made no bones about the level of detail their product offers (mid-to-high level product) and the FSL will take it a step further. This isn't me being a wicked "FSL fan-boy", simply stating facts and I think we can all expect to be blown away by FSL.

The inclusion of PMDG as a "vs" in the Airbus discussion is, quite frankly, a silly idea and will only serve to stir up the usual PMDG/Airbus row that festers and surfaces from time to time in their own support forums here at AVSIM.

If i'm being honest- I used to hate airbus, but its beginning to grow on me now that I've learn how to decently fly one. I think the problem before was the lack of high quality airbus simulations available, but that's being solved now with Airbus extended edition and in the foreseeable future, the FSL A320, so over time I reckon more and more people are gonna find that they like the Airbus. The other problem I see with the airbus in flight sims at the moment is that there is a significant lack of high quality training and tutorials for the airbus- I guarantee that on Youtube there are 5 times as many tutorials for the NGX than any single airbus simulation, but the more prominent the airbus becomes in simulation, the more tutorials there will be. My only wish is that a developer would do a decent longhaul airbus, such as the A330, A340, even the A380.

The NGX.

It towers above everything!

Nothing else comes even close.

Well it has been regarded as the most advanced simulation available for FSX but it would be nice to have an Airbus that would be able to compete in terms of fidelity.

I would personally prefer the A330. The A340 seems to be slightly outdated (at least efficiency-wise compared to the B747 and B777), while the A380 seems to be too automated and cool (have you seen how the fly-by-wire systems control the ailerons during manual flight?)—I do not want the A380 to detract from my PMDG B747 experience! Perhaps I will give the B747 less attention when the PMDG B777 is released. . . .

I love my PMDG 747, but I think that in RW Aviation, Boeing beat airbus in the race to create the most efficient airliner ( 787 against A350), while airbus beat Boeing in the large capacity/longhaul market ( A380 against 747-8 ). I am more of a fan of the 747 but in truth I think it's going to disappear slowly, being replaced by the A380 e.g BA and Qantas- users of the 747, now with orders instead for the A380.

Yes—some people refuse to believe it, but it's the truth.

I do not have first-hand flying experience with either the A380 or B747-8, but it seems that the A380 possesses a newer cockpit design. I do not know exactly why Boeing chose to preserve the general cockpit design of the B747-400 in the B747-8 when there was so much potential to upgrade it (to either a B777 or B787-style cockpit). Perhaps this is an indication that Boeing knew that the B747-8I could not survive a direct competition with the B777-300, and attempted to use backwards compatibility with the B747-400 in order to improve popularity?

While I am certainly not the authority on aircraft marketing, there must be good and valid reasons as to why many airlines are choosing the A380 over the B747-8I.

I'm now curious- do all the airbus models share a similar type rating???

I believe a two-week transition training session is required if one seeks to transfer from one type to the other.

If your talking about which plane has the best systems simulation that is currently released then it's the Leonardo Maddog...and the FSLabs Concorde then the NGX. All amazing systems simulations no doubt.

I think the FSL will be the new king when it's released though.

Cheers

Agree with you Lee, the Maddog and the Concorde are in a class of their own.
