  1. Hi Dominik, It really seems that you know your way around keeping an older PC running older software, so I really don't think there's many tricks left. It's the CB clouds, they're a killer. Options I used when I was using V3.4 were to look down at my aircraft when using external views when flying - that always helped gain a few FPS back. In the cockpit I'd lower my view a bit as well, not looking directly through the cockpit windows. That helped a bit too. The fact you have a Radeon card doesn't help - V3.4 didn't like those much... Sorry, but it seems you've tried all the good ideas I can think of... hope this helps a little bit. Mark
  2. I just had something strange happen flying the JF Comet; After 5 separate flights with absolutely no problem, P3D V5 started dropping to desktop as soon as I would throttle up for take off... The problem was the smoke effects used - once the engines started producing smoke the game would crash. Fix was simple - just go to the lights section of the aircraft.cfg and edit out the last 4 lines (the effects are actually listed as lights due to the way they worked).
  3. Yes, I've had the converted 1-11 running in V5 with no problems - everything seems to work just fine.
  4. The weak taxi/landing lights seem to be a feature of all pre-V5 native aircraft. Like you said, hopefully an FX tweak will come along... Glad you got the Jumbolino going!

    Clouds

Thanks for this, it's all starting to make more sense to me now. But about the slider - that's not what I'm seeing on my system. With the slider on 1 I had no clouds (not matching the reported wx) and with the slider on high I had wall to wall clouds (again, not matching the reported wx). I'll go watch those videos and see if my tiny brain can figure this out - or discover that I'm mis-reading the reported wx!
  6. More good news! The Just Flight/Aeroplane Heaven DH 106 Comet 4C runs just fine in P3D V5, and looks better than it's ever looked before, too.

Coastaldriver, Where do you set the slider for the volumetric clouds ? That's the part that keeps me confused beyond words...
  8. Blaunarwal, I just tried the QW RJ70 -a model with the glass cockpit and advanced autopilot. Everything is working fine, no issues with any of the displays. I'm running latest Win10 DX12 etc. I had to get the latest version of the installer from F1 to load the package into P3D. Maybe the newest version has been updated ? Anyway, it's worth a try if you want to run the modernized 146's.

I'll try that to - all I want is accurate, but pretty weather 🙂

Rob0203, When you say "Start only Active Sky" - are you inferring to stay away from Sky Force clouds ? Thanks!

I'll admit to being totally confused as to weather settings in P3D V5. I have FSGRW, Rex Skyforce, and Active Sky. Of course, Skyforce has been relegated to providing cloud textures only. Between FSGRW and Active Sky, I find Active Sky is simply prettier to look at, FSGRW works fine, just doesn't somehow "populate" the sky the same way Active Sky does. Now my problem with all the various WX apps - it used to be simple. Purchase an add on weather program of your choice, and voila! The weather in the sim matches the weather outside... but now with V5 we have this EA thing and volumetric clouds. I can't figure out how to use EA/Volumetric clouds, as all I want is the sim to match real-world weather conditions... It seems with EA/Volumetric clouds I can play with the sliders and make the weather pretty much whatever I want it to be right now - regardless of what the weather engine is putting in... Where should my sliders be to keep the weather as realistic as possible, yet to use the enhanced visuals provided by EA/Volumetric clouds ? In the the end, I just keep it turned off... 😞
  13. Here's another one gents; I managed to get the CLS/Just Flight 747 HD package running in V5. They weren't really useable in V4/V5 due to the VC not showing, but after playing in Model Converter X I managed to get them up and running. The altimeter and airspeed gauges are missing their needles, and the ADI and HSI are running but missing bits - but otherwise they're working up to spec. It's nice to have round gauge 747's working! The 2D panels are working as well. Something to hold me over until JF finally get around to releasing their all new bright and shiny "classic" 747 package. If you're interested in knowing the "gory details" on how to do it, send me a PM. I should be able to swap gauges from the DC-10 package into the 747 to fix the gauges that are messed up, but I'm too tired to try right now... Mark
  14. Hi, Search for "BMPDXT" - that application will take care of you. Mark
  15. Hi Coastaldriver, Captain Sim (yes I know, many people get grumpy when they read that) make a 757 and 767 for V5 as well. I haven't tried, but I imagine their older 727, and 707 won't install into V5. But as I said, I didn't try... Mark
  16. I'm glad you've (almost) come round to JF's "Sport Model" Tristar. Sure, it looks like it's been parked at Davis Monthan for far too long, but when it's up in the air where it's supposed to be it's actually quite nice 🙂 And at least it'll follow a nav course... (I had the Csim one drop out of nav 3 times in a row due to waypoints being too close together...) Mark
  17. Thanks Blaunarwal, Very helpful info - which means I think I'll give it a pass. I own a copy, but I have so many 737's that actually work "out of the box" I don't need another one! Cheers, Mark
  18. Tim, Regarding the Milviz 737 - is the autopilot working ? I remember that being a bit awkward... just wondering if everybody's home in V5 ?
  19. Yes - I had Accufeel on with the DC-8 once and it was like flying a tin full of worms... all squirmy and mushy. That's GOT to be it...
  20. Ah, if you're switching into Tamil you didn't follow the instructions! If I recall correctly, there were a couple options once you'd installed the font, and I remember one of them basically allowing you to have a bilingual keyboard, Tamil/English. Funny, but I agree with you - sometimes more simple models end up appealing more than the full-blown variety. Let's face it, sometimes you just want to kick the tires and light the fires, instead of trying to remember page 57 of the manual that you glanced at a couple years ago... Cntl-E start, wip in the numbers in the AP, and lets go watch scenery coast by! Yeehaw! And... I just landed the Flying Tigers DC-8-63CF at Rome. Not a hint of mushiness anywhere on the peninsula... sorry 🙂
  21. Which aircraft ? Any that I've installed it into. I just used it in the JF DC-8. Last time I used it was in a Carenado King Air I think. That GPS shouldn't care which aircraft it's installed into, it's basically the default GPS with a TFC function added - and the AP is a separate item. Mark
  22. Hi Treetops45, I'd check your installation - I've got the WeFly GPS/Autopilot working just fine in P3D V5.2. No idea why yours wouldn't work... so maybe just reinstall it again and see what happens ?
  23. DC-8 "mushy" on landing ? Not here... but then again, they don't call me "Captain Crash" without reason...! 🙂
  24. I'd forgotten about the McPhat livery packages; I just re-downloaded them all through my F1 client, and the license keys still work. All Super 80 packs installed correctly too! Hard to believe I just reinstalled software I purchased over 11 years ago...
  25. Just checking in - the Sky Simulations DC-9's and their new MD-10 all work fine. I hate to admit it though - I just landed the PMDG 777-200ER at LMML after flying in from Dubai. For some reason I couldn't get the Petula Clark song "Downtown" out of my head - finally had to start singing along on final into Luqa 🙂 Next flight will be in the 10... Life is good... Mark
