  2. Well, here's what I did; Initially, I did not reinstall 77L; I just installed SP1 over it and then the 77W. When I selected the 77W, the activation window popped up and I used it to successfully activate the 77W. After I discovered this issue, I performed a full reinstall but not once was I asked to reactivate. I just went back to load up the 77L and it too did not ask me to reactivate; and the 77L, like the 77W, did not work. Thank you for your help. Getting a little desperate now...
  3. Yes. I always perform installations with Run as Administrator. I can't be sure. But it was definitely active when I activated my 777. No. I do not have ezdok, this view was achieved with the XyzRate=8.0 CameraDefinition entry in the aircraft.cfg file and with the default viewpoint panning controls. Thanks for your replies. I really hope to get my 77W working soon.
  4. Hi all, I am currently experiencing an issue where the gauges on the 777 will not load after the sim has loaded. The activation for both the 77L and the 77W went successfully without any problems. Symptoms: - No Initializing Systems countdown on sim start - Black screens - No landing gear - No cockpit ambiance / gauge sounds I have already tried these: - Full, clean reinstallation of all PMDG 777 related products - Clearing out fsx.cfg trusted entries and the Roaming\Microsoft\FSX\SimObjects folder - Loading a default aircraft before loading the 777 None of the above worked. A reply to a support ticket I submitted suggested that I install the latest DX9 and DX SDK; I did so and again I performed a clearing out of the fsx.cfg trusted entries and the Roaming\Microsoft\FSX\SimObjects folder, but it still refused to work. Any suggestions and shoutouts will be greatly appreciated, thank you. - Peter Huang
  5. This occurred while attempting to purchase the 747-8 extension and the 777-300ER extension. Is there anything I can do to solve this problem? Peter Huang

Well, perhaps engine flex can be xml or gauge controlled like the wing and gear animations on those Project Opensky 747s and 777s. I also remember those Posky jets have a condensation fx effect file but i've never seen them work. Either ways, it'll be a really neat feature to have on the T7 if it doesn't hit performance too hard.
  8. That's most likely a problem with your default contrail effect files. The PMDG 777 uses the default FSX contrail effect files so I recommend replacing them with something else, like this for instance: http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?DLID=64250&Name=&FileName=&Author=&CatID=root Edit: Don't worry; it's meant for FS9 but it works fabulously in FSX. Tried it out personally.
  9. My FSX ragequits every time I exit it. Good thing it does that when I'm done with it for the day and not while I'm flying. But I don't think you need to worry about FSX crashing on exit; my FSX does that everytime all the time but it doesn't create any problems with the simulation itself.
  10. I can probably run the PMDG 777X on my Mac because it has nothing except FSX installed on its Windows partition; so FSX had full unimpeded access to all the system resources. Also, I wasn't using the highest scenery settings.
  11. Your system can most definitely run the PMDG B77L. I've been flying the 777 on a bootcamped MacBook Pro which only has 4GB RAM, 512MB Graphics card and less processing power and still it runs the 777 flawlessly.
  12. The whole flight took 23 hours. But I used 4x time acceleration so it wasn't really that bad. No need for that LOL. Landed @ NZWN w/ 8 tons of fuel left.

  15. All flights that I perform which are over 2hrs or ~6-700nm in length are done with Autocruise TC with 4x time acceleration, and 16x or 32x when I don't have much time. I typically do medium and ultra long hauls; UOOO-PAFA, MUHA-ZKPY, SBGL-EDDT, EGLL-NZAA using 4x auto TC with pause 20nm before T/D and I'll just do some work on my MacBook Pro or tend to household matters while the flight progresses. I'm not hardcore, I'm just flying for the fun and satisfaction of it.

  18. Longest flight I've done so far is ~6,700nm from MUHA (Havana) to ZKPY (Pyongyang), which will take ~16 hours in real life. However, I used 16x auto cruise time acceleration (and 32x at times where i got bored) so I've only logged ~1.5 hours of actual time in the sim (incl. preparation & shutdown).

  20. The license can be activated on a maximum number of two machines. I've activated mine on my home desktop and on my travel MacBook, both successfully. However, when registering it on my third older backup laptop, the 777's activation tool gave me an error message indicating that the license is only valid for activation on two machines.

Question: Did "messing around" involve failing the engines, hydraulics and the APU? That small two bladed turbine is meant to provide power to the 777 only when both engines have failed and the other redundancies built into the 777 can't supply enough hydraulic and electrical power to keep it from dying. It can also be deployed if "messing around" involved pushing a flipguard covered button labelled RAT that's situated on the overhead panel anterior to the hydraulics buttons. Overall, I do agree with you. "Messing around" is a fun and time efficient way of learning to handle the complex and intricate systems in PMDG addons. I do it all the time.
  22. Thanks for the answer. And now that you've made me realize it; yes, I guess I should trust the pros' work. After all, PMDG did promise absolute realism with that 90USD price tag and ~18 months of development work... Ah... The manuals... I admit I am not an avid manual reader but I did try searching for the answer in the FCTM and the FCOMs (the furthest I got was in chapter 8.7 of the FCTM, gave up after I couldn't find anything regarding APU autostarts); I really admire you guys who have seemingly next to no problems with reading and digesting entire 30mb pdfs. All that aside, thanks for pointing it out. Thanks for the answer! Thanks for the answer and sharing your observations! Thanks guys! Really appreciate your answers; they're very helpful in helping me understand the 777's intricate (if that isn't an understatement) systems.

  24. Hey guys, just wanted to share some observations I've made while messing around in the PMDG 777. First of all, let's start out with a scenario where an engine cuts out during rotation. The aircraft will be a 777F with full payload and short range fuel departing from PAFA's RW20R: A VR right engine cutout is programmed via the CDU menu... Observations: 1. The Thrust Asymmetry Compensation system does its job well, it trims the rudder hard left to compensate for the rightboard engine failure. Apart from the rudder, the thrust asymmetry compensation doesn't touch anything else; a slight roll to the left is observed with the left engine on TO -10% power and the rudder trimmed to the left. The roll wasn't caused by me, but I do think it is one of the side effects of the rudder being trimmed to the left. 2. Even with one engine out, the 777 was able to climb away at ~1100fpm at a speed of ~240kts to ~12,000ft. 3. When the DEP/ARR button is pressed on the left side CDU, it automatically displays the arrival procedures for PAFA. 4. Apart from yaw, the pitch and roll handling of the 777 seems to be the same as with both engines running. Good work, PMDG! 5. On another flight, I programmed a left engine flameout and disabled both the thrust asymmetry compensation and the FBW computers to see what will happen. Provided that the engine failure occured before the FBW functions are turned off, the rudder will remain trimmed in the direction of the failed engine. Once the rudder trim is returned to the normal position, all the usual symptoms of thrust asymmetry reappeared; the 777 yawed and rolled to the left with the left engine failed and the right engine on full power. However, this is where I also encountered a weird problem. After programming a flameout in the left engine on the CDU menu, the engine went out for a moment and... seconds later... coughed back to life and spooled up to full power. How can this happen? The fuel control levers on the center console are left in the run position but I'm pretty sure the autostart button was left in the off position. Back to the PAFA flight, after reaching 12,000 feet, I failed the left engine to see what will happen during a twin engine out scenario. Observations: 1. The RAT did not deploy automatically (I always thought the RAT deploys automatically whenever both engines lose power and the APU is not turned on). I'm not sure what happens on the real 777 but does the RAT deploy automatically or do you HAVE to press that RAT button on the overhead? 2. With the RAT deployed, the first officer's DUs and CDU remained off, though the primary flight computers still worked and the FLT CTRL MODE remained on NORMAL. There are no noticeable differences in control sensitivity apart from pitch up movements. 3. After ~2-3 minutes, all the electronics, hydraulics and air packs came back online. Somehow, the 777 has started the APU without me touching anything! Does the real 777 do that? (Even though the EICAS pages showed the APU was running, the APU off/run/start knob on the overhead was still in the off position. Weird...) One final note to make: On Oct 22, I was in the Pan Rong Village in the GuanXi province doing some menial work for the Habitat for Humanity project. That morning, my roomate has slept through 3 whole barrages from his phone's alarm clock and he only has a few minutes left before he will run out of time for brushing and grooming. So this was what I tried to wake him up: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbWGZ6MoQrg YouTube Link Observations: 1. With the MacBook's speakers at full blast, the 777's siren is LOUD! It will certainly slap any drowsy pilot out of his power nap in no time flat. 2. But my roomate slept on. 3. Other members attending the project said they could hear the 777's siren from two rooms away. 4. But my roomate still slept on. One last question: I noticed that in the CDU's options menu, there is an option to make silencing the siren possible with just a push of the master warning button. Does the real 777 have that option? Thank you for reading & answering. Peter Huang
  25. Well, I landed first but it wasn't a fair race as I had to use 16x time acceleration during cruise. 'Cuz MacBooks really love to drain their batteries at an astonishing rate when running programs like FSX. Wow. That's hardcore... No time acceleration at all?
