  1. Tell that to these guys: https://nasacentral.force.com/s/course-offering/a0Bt0000004lS6jEAE/xplane-11-flight-simulator-development-virtual
  2. Amazing how every topic that may slightly criticize something in here is immediately shot down by a parade of low voters...
  3. WOW!!!! So, if the OP was an x-plane user, it was all good to insult him ain't it? This is your take from here? Look at my comments, am I the only one who wrote about water interaction? About helis? About the flight model? Also I never said I was an MSFS beta tester, I did say I occasionally try what is new, 2 years passed and yawn. Am I allowed to express that in a thread that literally talks about that? @Ray Proudfoot, what about this, that came way before my comment:
  4. There is a difference between "this is needed for VFR navigation" vs some nice eye candy that you can enjoy on a particular route. We are discussing the first one. I agree that x-plane 11 scenery is very outdated visually, but still has everything needed for VFR navigation.
  5. What matters is what you have on the map, don't twist my comments please. Anything else is pure "eye candy" but I prefer mine to look better than photogrammetry, my own preference and watching many others turning them off proves that what I'm saying totally makes sense. A "prominent" landmark that can't be identified by the map, is not a good one period, otherwise once you enter an unfamiliar zone, it is going to be much harder for you to identify. There is a reason they teach this practice. This is how VFR navigation works, clock, map, surface. Please mention what you think x-plane 11 is missing compared to a typical map that one uses in VFR. My credentials don't matter, unlike others here who like to mention them every other post.
  6. Now x-plane uses SSAA, which means X times the native resolution, meaning that 4X SSAA on a 1K monitor means a 4K load for the GPU, even worse, since just native 4K is more efficient than 4X SSAA on a 1K monitor. MSAA is another method for AA, which yields pretty much the same quality as SSAA but with much less FPS cost. FSR is an upscaling method, so x-plane can render stuff at lower resolution (more FPS) and then FSR will upscale it back. There are typically multiple modes for FSR, it remains to be seen how it'll be quality VS fps.
  7. According to the last blog post x-plane 12 will have MSAA & FSR, great news for FPS.
  8. Yes I do. Tell me, if this "prominent" photogrammetry landmark is under some rennovation and now it's surroundings now look different than MSFS, can you count on it? I agree, it can help preparing for a flight, it might help when getting lost, but frankly if you are teaching your students to navigate based on photogrammetry or orthos, it is imo a horrible and unsafe practice and I mean it the nicest way possible. What is more improtant for VFR? Roads/mesh/water bodies/vectors/towns/cities OR the colors of the ground and the roofs (those are not even in maps...)?
  9. Thats my point, if somebody is flying vfr based on "this building roof is green" or this "terrain should be brown mud" his practice is not safe imo. If it works for southcal, great, not in my home country and many other locations I experienced that can look radically different from bing and other sources.
  10. It can help a lot prepearing for a flight I agree. BUT you can't count on MSFS ground colors match what reality is right now, you can't count that a certain landmark does not look different now etc.
  11. It helps a lot indeed being familiar. But you can't count on it as a safe pilot imo, many times stuff can look to familiar and recursive in this world and you CAN be mislead so you better know the proper practice. You never count on stuff like ground colors, espicially in a world that has seasons.
  12. Maybe, english is not a native language for me. But people here backlashed me based on previous record and I wrote this statement at least a dozen times before. Im not the defensive one here, trust me.
  13. VFR is done based on infrastructures and mesh/waterbodies, with a map (that has no landmarks, colors or roofs or any indication of the colors of the ground) and a clock. x-plane has all that, MSFS lacks crucial vectors like powerlines by default. This also includes obstacles like radio masts, street lights etc.
  14. Did you compehend what I wrote?
  15. That's a nice post. I actually wrote it multiple times in many occasions, for a normal simmer who just wants to meet POH numbers, the whole flight model discussion is mostly irrelevant, you get those in both as long as the aircraft developer did some good work. For research and development purposes, both x-plane and MSFS approaches are radically different with x-plane more suitable for real life development (not home simmer mods) uses like NASA use it, BETA and Austin building a real life vehicle and many others. I'm interested in this second aspect as well.
  16. Good for you! If I have both, but chose to fly x-plane 11 more am I allowed to express my own opinion about it when *someone else in here* mention it?
  17. *My*! *Bet*! What can be more speculative than that?! Where does it say, I promise x-plane will be released at x timeframe? Apologize.
  18. I expressed my own opinion about available products! I tried MSFS, I already had x-plane 11, I chose the latter dur to the exact reasons I wrote based on my own experience. On the other hand, x-plane 12 is not released and declared inferior, not for the first time rather for the 1000th time by @abrams_tank. So I did excatly the same as him deliberately just from the other edge of this whole debate presenting a hypothitical x-plane 12 condition (unreleased!!!), why I am the wrong one here getting the backlash?
  19. Someone mentioned something that I have a different opinion about, I have every right to write it. Note how many people jumped in just because I said something nice about x-plane.
  20. Don't run away from your own statement, you said I promised stuff to people, where?
  21. So I expressed my own opinion about available products. How does it compare to comparing to an *unreleased* product other than trying to provoke another debate like @abrams_tank is always doing? He mentions x-plane 12 in here more than anyone else!!! Why he is fine but i'm not?!
  22. I said "news" about x-plane 12, that came 6 months later (fscon keynote) But I fail to see where "I promised", are you going to provoke me for not predicting the future and how is it relevant to my credibility as a normal avsim user?
  23. So then why me, only 1 user with a different opinion, is now provoked by multiple users? You guys are the defensive, not me!
  24. You said I promised. Quote the promise, I dare you. If I was wrong about my own speculation this makes me one out of many in avsim forums. Besides, I remember what I said, and it was regarding footage and announcmenent, I was wrong for 6 months. But I never promised anything to anyone as evertything I write is my own opinion. so I ask again, either prove it or apologize.
