  1. For the purposes of VATSIM (not real world) you can plot the RNAV waypoints of the SID (Same for an arrival) into the GPS. That will work 95% of the time just fine. You just have to pay attention what the departure is having you do fly a heading and then get vectored on course or if it is to a RNAV fix off the runway you will most likely be golden. If you do mess up you will still be closer than most VATSIM pilots. You will want to get your clearance first as if I give you a different departure then you have a lot of work to do.
  2. I do not think that is your imagination. I changed this setting after reading a post a while back. I have multiple monitors but setting this to single display yielded noticeable improvement. Not 50% for me but probably 5 to 10 fps. I will see if I can dig up a link to the post as it had the why this was the case in it which I do not recall off hand.
  3. Very nice, that mounts nicely too.
  4. The really good news is you handled that perfectly. Any instructor would love to hear these words. I so wish more pilots would do this. Just go around. It is five to ten min tops.
  5. So first off I have not tried the radio stack with the NGX. However what I was going to comment on is the task saturation flying online. This is very real in the real world flying single pilot IFR. Also why there are two pilots in airliners. One flys the other talks and monitors and they swap on the next leg. With single pilot IFR communications should be last on your list. The controller can get over it. Fly the plane first, navigate second, and last communicate. Hence the term aviate, navigate, communicate in that order. A real world CFI-I will literally smack you if you miss a fix or hold or altitude because you were trying to talk or do something with the radios. I known,,, have been on the receiving end of that one. I am also a VATSIM controller, I would MUCH rather you hit your fixes and altitudes, runway assignments, or correct taxi ways than talk to me. While I may wounded what is going on it is far more work if you get off the approch or fly into the parallel approch path.
  6. @ J van E thanks for the clarification. That makes a great deal of since. Out of curiosity could one still use REX for all none cloud textures and ASCA for just the clouds? Or are you asking for trouble? I am assuming based on this that even when REX releases Skyforce 3D that you would still have the same limitation.
  7. I am new to P3D, have used X-Plane for years, still do but that is another story. I have AS16 and REX4. Since I am new that was more of a fluke than an educated decision. I just saw what everyone was talking about and got the latest version of both. With that, I am seeing amazing weather generation and clouds, etc with the combination. I did not go back and reread prior to this post so this is memory only. I think there was something that about the only thing you loose using Rex over ASCA is cloud movement in the clouds. But not so sure on that so do not hold me to it. My point is, I am VERY impressed with the combination and I flew a KPHX to KATL last week and the weather was clear as could be in KPHX and thunderstorms over Texas and overcast to 200 ft above minimums in KATL so the clouds/ art is changing and it looked fantastic. It is also very smooth transitions into and out of the weather. X-plane does a drop in weather update that will slap you off course (about the only bad thing I will say about X-Plane so that one was free )). Oh and @mtrainer, right there with you on Sublogic, Your Avatar brought back so many memories. I would love to get a copy of that screen shot. I bet I have a couple of thousand hours logged on that sim.... Maybe I should not have admitted that......
  8. I have found that NVIDIA likes to, every so often, go in and change a few settings back to defaults. I usually notice with a frame hit or something looking a bit wacky. I have mine documented after the third time that happened.
  9. Kevin, wanted to say thank you!!! The fact that the keyboard did not work was driving me crazy for the past week. You gave me two pieces of info that solved my issue. 1) I changed EzCA.exe to NOT run as administrator - This fixed the issue. 2) I did not follow your advice here (shame on me) but you did give me what I needed to edit the EXE.XML file so that it loads ezdok when P3D loads so that is awesome, and it works. If I have issues in the future I will uninstall and install to C; but I am trying to keep the OS on C, Flight Sim on E and File transfer and logs on F (if you have not figured it out by that format I am an old Wintel IT guy). That also makes me stubborn Anyway appreciate the post and the solution it lead to. Maybe we can introduce the developer to variables in their code so they can place the right path in the XML file in the next version LOL!!
  10. I use G2XPL and I like it a great deal. It does a great job. It is command line but once you get a few things down you just plug in the next 1x1 tile and let it rip. It did take me a little while to get the config file the way I wanted it. I am on vacation this week but when I get back happy to share my config file with you. That will make it so you only need to change the lat and long of the tile you want to process. Here are a few links I use. Keep track of your 1x1 tiles. http://www.goeldenitz.org/map_grid.html Good overview, pay $10 to $20 to get the full version well worth it. http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?/forums/topic/59170-g2xpl-get-it-in-post-1/ Step by step video of how to do it. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=e_4efqe614Y Hope that is helpful.
  11. Hello, So I have just take the plunge into the P3D world. Yes I am/ was a die hard X-Plane fanatic but am looking for deeper systems simulation in the aircraft. So this seems to be the path for now. And as I have found not necessarily a cheap one. However I digress. I have created a massive amount of Photo Scenery for X-Plane all in DDS files. I have found some topics on taking FSX/ P3D scenery to X-Plane but not so much discussion coming the other way. Short story is it would be great to utilize the photo scenery I have in X-Plane for P3D if that is possible in any way to convert. Otherwise I will start looking at creating it for P3D from scratch I suppose. Thanks, and for anyone wondering I am on the fence after using P3D on which is better they both have their pluses and minuses. Not sure I have a clear winner. I think they are two tools for two different things honestly. None the less I am enjoying it and learning a new simulation platform has kept me busy for sure.
