  1. I did not check the "Do not update airport files" option. The reason those changes do not appear is the scenery contained in FTX Global openLC Europe which I also have installed. So, actually, the behaviour is correct and as expected. Now I need an updated scenery too. Either purchased (when it becomes available), or maybe I'll get my hands dirty and begin playing with ADE. Thank you all for your replies!
  2. You were right, the navaids do get updated. The only things that do not get updated are the PAPI lights (they don't show up if they've been added), the runway numbers, basically all that has to do with the scenery.
  3. Hmm... interesting! I will definitely take another look at this and try reinstalling the update. Fortunately, I have .gho images of the partitions on my simulator system, so it's easy to make another test with "untouched" scenery/navaids. Thank you!
  4. I cannot use the navaids update mentioned above, because of this: http://www.avsim.com/topic/481971-update-of-magnetic-variation-and-navaids-not-effective/ Anyway, it is a relief to read that the PMDG aircraft is able to operate without relying on the stock navaids, most of the time. When the latter will be needed, I guess I will have to adjust a few .bgl files in the add-on Orbx scenery, so that the navaids correspond to the updated charts. Thanks a lot for the answers!
  5. Hello! The information I have been reading until now regarding the navaids, the FMC, Navigraph etc. got me a little confused. I understand that the FMC data of the PMDG aircraft can be updated from Navigraph, and up-to-date navigation charts can be used thanks to that fact, but the question is whether the aircraft use any of the stock navaids in FSX/P3D, like VORs, NDBs, ILS etc. Suppose any of those navaids has been changed (updated frequency, position) in the updated FMC. The simulator database hasn't been changed since 2006 (as far as I know). Won't there be any conflicts? Are there any workarounds that you guys usually use in this case? Some say that the PMDG aircraft don't use the stock navaids, some say that they actually do. So... which one is it? Thanks in advance!
  6. A few months ago I applied the same update and it worked. And now I remember why: I made a few small adjustments to the parking spots, using AFX. But the application could not load the Orbx scenery file, I don't remember what the error message was. So I loaded the stock one. Because of these changes, the new airport scenery got the highest priority. So I had the updated runway numbers, PAPI lights etc. So it seems that I can use either the navaids update, or the Orbx products... I don't see another solution for the moment... I'll have to use only old charts that are compatible with the old Prepar3d navaids, while flying GA aircraft that use them and don't have their own navdata in the FMC. Thank you for the answers!
  7. Will your solution be able to update the simulator navigation data even after Orbx products like FTX Global, Vector and openLC are installed? I am asking this because of this problem that I have with the solution provided by Hervé Sors: http://www.avsim.com/topic/481971-update-of-magnetic-variation-and-navaids-not-effective/
  8. Hello! I have upgraded my Prepar3d v3 simulator by installing the following Orbx products: FTX Global Base, FTX Global Vector and FTX Global openLC Europe. I am trying to update the files containing the magnetic variation and the navaids in Prepar3d, by applying the following: http://www.aero.sors.fr/navaids3.html A very short test showed that the effects are not visible: runways 15/33 from LRIA should have become 14/32, the runways should have had PAPI lights etc. The scenery contained in the FTX products has greater priority in the Scenery Library, and the navaids update is applied only to the stock files of the simulator. Do I have any chance of using the navaids update together with the Orbx products? If yes, how? If not, how do you guys manage to fly on VATSIM, for example, where (I understand) the ATC controllers give instructions based on updated scenery and navaids? Thanks in advance!
  9. Hello! I hope I am asking this question on the correct forum... Before flying as a Captain, I would like to practice as First Officer in FSX (using a PMDG add-on like 737, 777 etc.). So I would like to have an add-on that actually flies the plane from gate to gate and gives me (the First Officer) commands like "set flight level X", "gear up", responds to checklist items that I specify etc. I have been unsuccessful so far in finding something like that. Does anyone know of such an add-on for FSX? Thanks in advance!
  10. Yes, I know there are hundreds if not thousands of pages to read before actually flying these planes. I will definitely enjoy doing that (that's why I chose PMDG). I am very well aware of the fact that they are not "beginner aircraft". Of course, I will start with Cessna 172 But I wanted a few hints in order to make a better decision when I will eventually purchase my first PMDG aircraft. Thank you for your answers!
  11. Hello! I am an absolute beginner regarding the MS Flight Simulator and the PMDG products. I would like to purchase one of the PMDG aircraft. I'm interested in MD-11, 747, 737 and 777 at the moment. The problem is that I cannot decide which one to choose. Which one (from those listed above) would be more suitable to begin with? What I would like to do is to begin flying the (let's say) "easiest" to maneuver, the one with less engine power, and things like that. And then progress to the next one, bigger, more engine power etc. Something like a "career mode". Could anyone give a few hints? (like "Hey, start with 737-600, then 737-700 etc. then 777, then 747, then MD-11", for example). Thanks in advance!
