  1. Just out of interest, if there is no wind, are inland water features such as lakes completely smooth as in real life or are there still waves present?
  2. I recently started using AIG, it's a great package (and I agree that Traffic Global from JF is utter junk) Anyway, one problem I have with my AI aircraft is that I can barely hear them. I can't hear them at all from in the cockpit even if I am right next to the runway when they are taking off! If I move to an external view I can just hear them, if they are close to me but not from any distance. Is this normal or am I missing something? Thanks.
  3. Could be your graphics card is not DX12 compatible, worth checking😏
  4. Totally agree. HIs computer should give fantastic stutter free frame rates, but he was reporting it wasn't! So the only two solutions were to reduce settings so that his frame rates were above 100 FPS which is the native refresh rate of his screen, or reduce the Refresh rate of his screen so that his frame rates can keep up. Maybe I should have suggested reducing it to 60 instead of 30.Ultimately, I think he was comparing P3D with X-plane + Vulkan which does feel exceptionally smooth and not liking the results. Or maybe it was gsync that was causing his problems - I'm still not sure it works with P3D even though it is a great screen and should work. Or it could have been a million other things such as background programs, AV software, etc etc etc. I have an even more beast of a computer and with the add-ons I use and the settings I want the 30hz trick is the only solution to keep things smooth and as I said previously most people on this forum use it - just look back at the hundreds of threads on the topic. You were probably right that in his case it wasn't needed but it is not a 'Bad Setup'. A lot of people would say that anything above 30 fps is a waste anyway because the human eye can't distinguish anything over that. And yes, I will agree that you can tell a difference but that is more due to Lag. I fly tubeliners so lag isn't so noticeable to me apart from in sharp turns when taxying, but people who fly fast jets or play games will notice it a lot and want as high an FPS as possible, hence these new 100hz and above screens. I'm sure your opinion was probably better than mine, but to be fair I didn't see you offering it until I had tried to help.
  5. I think you 'll find that is because of DX12. It handles VRAM differently and apparently doesn't allocate as much to p3D as before? Sure I read this somewhere in the Forums. Maybe someone more technical can confirm this.
  6. Do you know how much VRAM you were using in v4. Maybe that 1 Gb is just enough extra to push it past the limit of your card. Just a thought - I am no expert. LM are really the ones you need to complain to, I was just stating an opinion which seems to be a dangerous pastime at the moment🙂
  7. Do you have the new Atmospheric settings turned on?
  8. Sorry, I really don't want to go any further with this. I generally don't give technical advice on these forums but this user was complaining of stutters and no one else seemed to be taking him on so I decided to try and help. In future I will leave it to the experts who know what they are talking about. Please disregard everything I said.
  9. If you are on minimum specs then yes it is ludicrous. If someone was using 6 to 7 Gb in v4 and is now seeing OOM's with 8Gb of VRAM then that is understandable which is what I meant!
  10. In v4 I was getting autogen problems even when my system was well within its capabilities, especially when descending from high altitudes when it would disappear altogether - even with draw distance set to medium! Thanks for the info.
  11. Yes, unfortunately a rip off I know, but probably the only way to beat the VRAM OOM's unless LM provide a fix. But that will probably mean compromises in visuals which is probably what is causing this - with improvements comes increased requirements.😏
  12. Thanks, I'll really have to look into this scenery. Yours shots look so much better than anything else I have seen so far!! What frame rates are you getting and is autogen popping still evident with v5? Thanks.
  13. Your screen shots are really amazing! I would like to know what addons and settings you are using to achieve this🙂
  14. Stutters and smoothness are generally related to the correlation between fps and monitor refresh rate. If the two are in sync it is smooth, if they aren't you get stutters. You are correct that you do not have to run at 30 fps and it isn't a perfect experience. However, the more add-ons you run and complex aircraft you use and settings you ramp up, the more your fps will suffer until it WILL go below the 60 fps that most monitors need to run smooth. This doesn't indicate a bad setup as you suggested. It is a trade off. If you want that extra complexity and eye candy, you accept that you will have to run at a lower fps and then you need to sync that frame rate to your monitor. There are a number of ways to do this and I suggested the most widely used one. If you can run at over 60 fps then great but you still need it to be synced with your monitor and as far as I am aware G-Sync does not play well with P3D. Stutters can be caused by other things and P3D has never been ultra smooth like X-plane with Vulkan which is what the user I was trying to help is comparing it to. Each to his own.🙂
  15. As far as I am aware, virtually everyone on this forum is running at 30 FPS or less unless they have a virtually vanilla set up or very low graphics settings with default aircraft. Please tell me your secret .
  16. Yes you are right and it depends on a million different variables in P3D. If you are running at 1080p with a default plane you should be able to run at 100 fps no problem. I have a 9900k overclocked to 5.1ghz and a Titan RTX graphics card and I can still bring it to its knees with the wrong settings.
  17. Then you have two options: 1. Adjust your settings so that you can achieve over 50 fps consistently and use the method I described. 2. If you can't live with those settings you will have to get a monitor or TV that will support lower speeds. Also, bear in mind that you will always get the odd occasional stutter in P3D even with a perfect set up, it is just the nature of the beast, although I can't speak for v5 as I haven't upgraded yet. Or 3rd option, stick with X-plane 🙂
  18. Not necessarily. You can use Nvidia Control panel to set up a new custom resolution at 30Hz if your monitor will support it. If it won't it will just not work and you can revert to normal. I have a Samsung 49" curved monitor with native speed of 144Hz and I can set up any speed down to 25Hz and it works. You just need to try it out. Without doing this, the only way to get your current monitor running at 100hz to be smooth is to ensure your FPS never drop below 100, which is virtually impossible.
  19. Forget G-sync with P3, it doesn't work well. To get a smooth experience you need to get a monitor or TV that can run at 30Hz. Then set V-sync to 'on' in the simulator and as long as your settings allow the FPS to stay consistently above 30 you will have smooth. You can set the FPS limiter in the sim to fixed at 31 or unlimited which ever appears best to you. There are a lot of threads on Avsim on how to avoid stutters with P3D, but this is the best solution most people use. X-plane with Vulkan is very smooth, I also have it but P3D can be almost as good. I am also a real world pilot and have spent years trying to achieve smooth so I understand what you are saying. Give it a go.
  20. I think he means how does he add a picture to his post. I'm not sure how to do it, but maybe you do? 🙂 Edit: Or maybe not, just ignore me.
  21. That looks much nicer than in Robs earlier video of the float plane, which to me looked like a giant oil slick. I wonder how inland water will be handled by v5? For instance, if there is no wind will it be mirror smooth with amazing reflections as in real life? Still not sure about the animations at 2.50, a bit unrealistic?
  22. Yes, I get that too. Just feeling hard done by at the moment 🙂
  23. I don't expect them to support it, or update it or correct anything that isn't working. It would just have been nice to say they would maybe update the installer so owners could use it 'Sold as seen' , not just refuse point blank. It's not as if it was a $20 purchase. Anyway they won't so that's that. I may try a manual install but that's probably a minefield with a complicated product like the NGX.
