  1. I also experimented with different AA filters: None, TAA, DLAA, DLSS, FSR and it made no difference at 30FPS.
  2. NO...because I previously mentioned in this thread as well as others that I prefer MSFS 2020/24 over XP12. I find the out of the box experience better. This was never about who is the better product, XP12 or MSFS 2020/24. It was and has been about that I don't see any smearing or ghosting in XP12 running at 30FPS where it is visible in both versions of MSFS. You also missed the part where I said I have purchased XP9/10/11/12. So where did you come up with the idea i'm trying to start a food fight? When you pan the view camera, the image blurs (breaks up) both inside outside the plane. It becomes really exaggerated at 30FPS,the image stays very clear at 60FPS when panning the camera around both inside and outside the plane.

  4. You're right, it's called MSFS 2020/2024. If you are not seeing any smearing or ghosting in 30FPS then you have a very special setup, congrats. I'm am getting ghosting/smearing in 4K @30FPS on a 43" ASUS 4K monitor that supports 120Hz. I am also getting ghosting and smearing on a 4K monitor that supports 60Hz. I am getting ghosting and smearing on an Alienware 25" 1080P monitor that supports 240Hz when I run either MSFS 2020 or MSFS 2024. However with those same two monitors, I don't have that problem with XP12.
  5. And I recently discovered that and was both shocked and amazed at how fluid and smooth it was at 30FPS. I can't get MSFS 2020/24 to run at 30FPS without ghosting when moving the camera around both inside and outside the plane. As a bonus I was able to increase the graphics settings in XP12 and it did not have an impact at 30FPS.
  6. (Please don't read this as sarcasm as it's not) Just so we are on the same frequency channel. I get poor performance with XP12 in high or max settings @ 60FPS on my DYI build or HP Omen 30L. I cannot get good performance out of it. As an experiment, I found out that it runs incredibly smooth at 30FPS. No ghosting and extremely responsive. This relates to XP12 only. If I try that either in MSFS 2020 or 2024 at 30FPS, I get plenty of ghosting. This is simply relating to MSFS 2020/24 ghosting when running at 30FPS. On my DIY build MSFS 2024 can consistently hit 60FPS with Ultra Settings so that's what i'm running it at.
  7. I'm comparing ghosting in MSFS 2020/24 at 30FPS. At 60FPS there's no ghosting. This applies to both my recent DIY build and my 4 year old HP Omen 30L. That's why I target 60FPS for MSFS 20/24. XP12 suffers virtually no ghosting at 30FPS and high graphics settings. This thread is simply related to ghosting in MSFS when run at 30FPS. There was never an intent to claim XP or MSFS was the better choice.
  8. I've tried FG in both MSFS 2020/24 and too much ghosting and tearing. I'm patched with the latest for both MSFS 2020 and 2024, so no beta Oh, it's not a snipe at either just a comparison. I prefer MSFS 20/24 because of the out of the box experience but i've also been an X-Plane customer since XP9. I'm glad you found it interesting.
  9. I thought i'd share this with anyone who plays either of these two at 30FPS. I typically try to achieve 60FPS in MSFS 2020/24 because there is a lot of ghosting when panning either inside the cockpit or viewing the landscape when it is set to 30FPS. With X-Plane 12 that doesn't seem to be a problem. I have raised the white flag trying to play X-Plane 12 @ 60FPS with most of the graphics settings maxed out on my recent DIY 9800X3D, 64GB of 6000Mhz RAM, RTX 5080 and a 2TB Gen 4x4 NVME, SSD. With maxed out settings I will typically get around 38-41 FPS at JFK. Smaller cities or airports it will hit on average 55-60 FPS. With MSFS 2024 I can consistently hit 60 FPS with Ultra settings at smaller cities or airports. At JFK with Ultra settings I will typically get around 52 FPS until I am around 1500 ft and then it locks in at 60FPS. No such luck with X-Plane 12. So as an experiment I wanted to see what the result would look like on my 4 year old HP Omen 30L with an i9-10850K, 32GB of 3200Mhz RAM, RTX 3080 and a Gen3, 1TB NVME. The results were really bad in 4K @60FPS so I set my max frames to 30FPS for X-Plane in the Nvidia control panel. At 30FPS, X-Plane 12 is incredibly smooth with virtually no stutters, zero ghosting or tearing. It appears as smooth as you would expect playing it at 60FPS. At 30FPS in full screen mode @4K I can pretty much max everything out and it still plays incredibly smooth. However flying into a big city such as JFK in NYC or Miami you can see a slight/micro lag in the scenery even though the frametime stays consistently in the 33.3-7 ms range.
  10. Nope, i'm in Florida and sometimes i've had slowdowns trying to download updates. What worked for me was exiting MSFS 2020 and restarting it. You could also try Ethernet instead of WiFi and see if that speeds things up. You also try restarting your modem/router.
  11. FYI, it looks like MS/Asobo decided to use DX12 as default because a couple of days ago MSFS 2020 started crashing as I was using DX11 on another PC with an RTX 3080 that runs both DX11/12. I had it set to DX11 because it seems to run a little smoother for me in DX11. Crash after crash as soon it loaded the airport. Up to that point it was fine. I thought about this thread and went and changed the graphics settings to DX12 and the no more crashes.
  12. Lets hope so, but don't forget that MSFS 2024 is heading to the PlayStation 5 in December with 80 million potential customers. Even if Sony has the server capacity to handle those buying the game, it still feeds back to Microsoft's servers because they use Azure. Hopefully Asobo won't be caught off guard like they were at launch, with the excuse "oh we didn't think so many would be interested in playing MSFS 2024 so we didn't anticipate the server capacity needed". These are the same people who decided streaming would not be a problem vs storing it on the players local storage device. 🤡
  13. From what I understand and have heard/read is that he was the first to do it, then others followed. What sets him apart is his love and enthusiasm for aviation. He also does military shows and other segments related to legendary airplanes. The other aviation channels for the most part have no commentary and just transmit the Tower radio transmission. That's pretty cool too but I prefer Jerry's style a lot more. I did find the video with his cousin Johnny Heather and Capt Chris in a real flight simulator.
  14. Then pay for the license and add it to the cost of the product. When I compare MSFS 2020/24 vs X-Plane 11/12 graphically, it's no contest and MSFS 2020/24 runs smoother and looks better than X-Plane 12. Instead we are given updates to enhance the exterior look of the planes. The Cessna Skyhawk looks like it just finished leaving the detail shop and has been waxed 7 times. I'm not a real pilot but I had friends who were and I went flying in small Cessna planes. The paint was usually dull or weather beaten especially in the brutal FL sun. The exterior of the planes in MSFS look more accurate than those in XP12. The other thing I would really like is for them to update the windshield look. It is hard to see at night or during the day and the muted colors that X-Plane uses makes it hard to see stuff at times. Perhaps Cessna windshields do look that weather beaten in real life but I don't remember that when I went flying with friends. Again, i'm not knocking either product as I buy both and will continue to do so but XP needs to up its game. If they want more customers, they need to widen the net. MSFS is designed to cater to the novice and real pilots. You can easily select and create a flight plan or just hop from one airport to another. XP is way too barebones. Some may prefer that but as long as that continues, XP will greatly lag behind MSFS. There's a Youtube channel called BigJet TV and Jerry Dyer (I hope I got the name right) had a show in London with a rep from XP. Instead he does a weekly show called Sim Challenge and guess what he uses? He uses MSFS 2024 instead of XP. So does his cousin who did the first Sim challenge on his channel and he did a show where his cousin flew in a real world flight simulator with a real British Airways pilot. He learned from MSFS and not XP and the British Airways Pilot was massively impressed with his flight and communication (VATSim skills). Needless to say he nailed every bit of the test including knowing the process of operating the airliner. It was pretty cool but Microsoft gets the exposure while XP does not. So those who think that MSFS is inferior to XP might want to rethink that. If anyone is interested I can find that Flight Simulator video.
  15. I forgot how I disabled the co-pilot in the game which was several years ago. Now I notice that in the cockpit view of a Cessna, he's not there but in the external view, the co-pilot is visible. I did a search for that but mostly the answers were related to MSFS 2024.
  16. As an X-Plane and MSFS player, there are tradeoffs with every product, right? Microsoft Flight Simulator uses real maps and has better graphics out of the box. Why doesn't X-Plane have that? They charge a similar price for X-Plane as MSFS 24. Why not incorporate that into their product to compete graphically with MSFS 20/24?
  17. Hey huge thanks, that fixed the problem. I experimented a bit once I got MSFS 2020 to launch. I changed it back to DX11, quit the game and it crashed again. I changed the setting again in the config file to DX12(Beta) and it worked again. So apparently my RTX 5080 will only work with MSFS in DX12 mode and not DX11 which is the games default setting. I am now able to hit pretty consistently 60FPS at JFK in High End mode at night. Once I get over a 1000ft, it pretty much locks in at 60FPS. I tried Ultra and it jumped around until I get over 1500ft and it starts to hit 53FPS. I always use DLSS (Quality) regardless. Without DLSS for some reason I get some shimmering looking out towards the landscape.
  18. I disagree especially with MSFS getting ported to the PS5. Now if X-Plane were on consoles that might raise Microsoft's antennas. Slander doesn't work because the product has to stand on its own. It is the paying public who decides if a product is successful or not. The only exception is in the case of Electronic Arts paying for the NFL License to make games, shutting out competition. That doesn't apply here with Microsoft. They can claim that the X-Plane team never take showers and program their game in the nude, so don't buy their flight sim. None of that matters because if the product meets the approval of the paying public then Microsoft has no influence whatsoever. So I disagree with your take.
  19. If you are referring to the original XBOX released in 2001 and the PlayStation 1/2/3 then yes that is correct. I purchased the OG XBOX and it had an Intel CPU and Nvidia GPU inside. Up until the PS4, Sony was using boutique parts, i.e. (Emotion Engine, Cell Processor). IIRC when the PS4 arrived along with the XBOX One and later on the PS5 and Series X/S they share a similar architecture based on AMD parts. That's why MS decided to port its games to the PS5. Supposedly the PS6 and Next Gen XBOX will. both use AMD hardware so backwards compatibility won't be an issue and porting XBOX games to the PS6 shouldn't be either.
  20. Thanks I will try that once my 150GB update is finished. What's weird is I can successfully install MSFS on my HP Omen 30L with a 3080. I tried copying the entire folder from the HP Omen 30L to a USB drive then copying it to my DIY PC and it too crashed and burned.

  23. I have the Series X and S as well as the base PS5. I wasn't aware that the Series X supports VR. I can't do VR because of poor eyesight and I get disoriented when I have tried it. I don't like that feeling.
  24. This one baffles me as it is consistent. Specs are Gigabyte Eagle AX Mobo AM5, 9800X3D, Gen 4 NVME 2TB, RTX 5080, TeamGroup 64GB Expo 1, 6000Mhz RAM, Corsair Tier 1 PSU @ 1000W. It's a new PC build, all drivers and BIOS are current. I can install and play MSFS 2024 and any other game, no problems. With MSFS 2020, I install the 2GB setup files from the XBOX App, launch MSFS for the next part of the installation process. It will download the large update, the screen changes right before you get to the Main Screen. At that point it locks up, then I get a CTD. I relaunch the game again, same thing happens. I tried installing it on my Gen 4 SSD C : drive with all defaults, CTD after the huge update. I tried installing it on my 2nd Gen 4 drive and CTD after the huge update, same result. The update prior to download asks where you want it to save. I chose the default which is the operating system drive but it doesn't matter because it will install the update files where the MSFS resides. Any ideas?
