"Melting" scenery in MSFS2024.

Featured Replies

I finally took the leap and bought MSFS 2024 (Steam version) and took a trip around Sydney, and was surprised to see melting scenery and ships floating in the air. I thought that melting scenery was a thing in the first versions of 2024, but maybe it's a setting that I need to change. Any ideas?

My $200 is lost, if you still have time get a refund, I would do so.

I have actually turned off the photogrammetry as I think the sim looks better.  I am not a fan of the melted tree blobs and other structures.  You could try changing that and see how you like it.  You will lose the cities though that at times can look very good with PG turned on.  The AI autogen does a lousy job with big cities....

I often think that's due to repetitive buildings and textures. How many times have I flown with PG off, and come down surrounded by a sea of little red apartments.....

And I also wonder if building "footprint" matching and melted tree blob removal is a bit less accurate now, than when blackshark was handling it.....

It's deffo server related, one day it looks great the next day it's melted horridness.

I would disagree with that to a certain extent. I do not recall looking at autogen city buildings when on final approach, and thinking "OMG, that looks rubbish". On the other hand, trying to ignore melted PG buildings (and texture resolution from the 1990s) is impossible for me.

In 2020 I experienced PG issues (aka melted buildings), in 2024 haven't experienced it, PG detail is phenomenal ... doesn't seem to matter where I fly.  I use a 32GB rolling cache.

Without more details, it's hard to suggest anything.  Denmark isn't remote so I would think you'll have good access to MSFS PG servers.

If your PC signature is accurate, your system doesn't meet "Ideal Spec" for MSFS 2024 which you can find here:

https://flightsimulator.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/12702272798364-Microsoft-Flight-Simulator-2024-FAQ

PG is more demanding that AG so meeting Ideal Specs would be my recommendation.

You can blame the servers if you like, but not sure how that's going to solve anything?

Waiting for your rolling cache to fill up might help, but I've never needed to do that so far in my MSFS 2024 journey.

Now on that one I totally agree. It surprises me that Blackshark AI did not have that one sorted out from the start.

Unfortunately for me its so hit and miss with 2024 (not that its hugely different in 2020).   Some days the PG is phenomenal and as crisp and clear as its ever been....then days like this AM into JFK where it was horrible.   Nothing changes on my end so its server related and how much it can serve to me...its just frustrating its not stable.

Does downloading the areas you intend to fly, to your hard drive? Does this help??

I'm still experiencing the melted buildings. I live near NYC so my test flights are Manhattan and so much of it looks melted. I'll give them some credit as some of the big bridges around Manhattan have stopped showing up as bridges with apartments underneath them.

Lets hope so, but don't forget that MSFS 2024 is heading to the PlayStation 5 in December with 80 million potential customers. Even if Sony has the server capacity to handle those buying the game, it still feeds back to Microsoft's servers because they use Azure.

Hopefully Asobo won't be caught off guard like they were at launch, with the excuse "oh we didn't think so many would be interested in playing MSFS 2024 so we didn't anticipate the server capacity needed". These are the same people who decided streaming would not be a problem vs storing it on the players local storage device. 🤡
