Paul!The 737NGs don't use beacons, they use strobes. I think rotating becons are a bit out of fashion in most modern construction because they entail lotsa moving parts that you don't get with a strobe....Only part of the strobe that moves is the light beam....and that is cheap!

No not really, only a/c after a certain date I belive is like 92 or something must have a red becon light. Older a/c like pipers only have white strobes and no beacons on some. Also a Red strobe will be called a beacon and works fine. When they say beacon it is now loosley meant as a red light and strobe as white even though both in reality will be strobes. Hope that helps. Nothing beats the double rotating red becons of the L1011. Those were neat to see on the ramp.
