August 22, 200421 yr Hi all, I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to set up an X800 PROso that I get maximum performance and quality for FS2004, I went from a 9600XT (I should have bought the X800 XT also, but no one had it) to an X800 PRO, and I still get some choppiness when using ultimate traffic and simflyer's airports. My current computer config is a Pentium 4 2.8 Ghz 1 Gig of DDR Ram a 160 Gig HD and an X800 PRO. Maybe I can take it back and get the GEforce 6800. Anyone have any suggestions for me?Thanks,Jeff USAF Jeff Commercial | Instrument | Multi-Engine Land AMD 5600X, RTX3070, 32MB RAM, 2TB SSD
August 23, 200421 yr Hi JeffBeen thinking about getting myself a new graphics card, have a GeForce4 Ti 4800 right now and a very similar setup to yours otherwise also with UT installed. What kind of FPS do you get with this setup and the new X800 Pro?
August 23, 200421 yr Author I get about 30 FPS with everything on highest with 100% traffic running ultimate traffic (great program). However it stutters down to about 15 when I go to airports that I bought from simflyer's (KLAS and KIAH).Thanks,Jeff Jeff Commercial | Instrument | Multi-Engine Land AMD 5600X, RTX3070, 32MB RAM, 2TB SSD
August 23, 200421 yr OK, that's interesting - thanks! Maybe it's time to give a new graphics card some serious thoughts ;-)
August 23, 200421 yr I have a X800 XT with the newest drivers. Pentium 4 3Ghz, 2Gigbyte RAM, 100% on all slides no AI because i only fly online. I get 70-90 FPS !! But i frees the framerate at 25!. Water, Clouds and Multiplayer-Aircrafts on FPI at the best you can get.A very good card!!KevinCWV777CA-Airways
August 23, 200421 yr Now that sounds great! Just the kind of FPS I would like to see :-) I wonder how much is your X800 XT and how much it's your huge amount of RAM that gives you that kind of framrate? And how much the fact that you're not using any AI traffic does?Anyway I'm sure I will invest in a new card though I think I will wait for a couple of more months until the price drops a bit.
August 23, 200421 yr Commercial Member I have a question relating to anisotropic filtering on the X800 - for those of you who have one, has ATI fixed the whole issue of ground textures etc "crawling" and shimmering when a high level of AF is enabled. It's gotten really bad for me as of late and I ended up turning AF down to 4X to make it bearable. (at the expense of terrain sharpness) If this still happens on the X800, the GF6800 is probably going to be my next vid card. August 23, 200421 yr Ryan,The 6800 has the same problem. Bloody annoying if you ask me. Cheers,John TavendaleTextures by Tavers - https://www.facebook.com/texturesbytavers
August 23, 200421 yr Do not get so excited when you read of somebody with a setup similar to yours haveing higher frame rates: 99% you won't ever get it.That's not just because any (f***ing) computer is different from any other, but because every simmer is different from another:somebody will add autogen, somebody water textures, somebody would add some high detail mesh, some would even modify the default files to allow more mesh precision, some would change the cloud textures, some the building textures...So there is no fs the same as another, apart (MAYBE!) from freshly installed clean ones. That's not to throw cold water at anybody, it's just because sadly the fact that somebody is getting a FR somewhere, doesn't necessarily mean we'll get it too.Too much sadly in my opinion ;)
August 24, 200421 yr Of course everyone get different results depending on how they usually setup and run FS, but I tend to belive I would get better framrates with a new X800 XT card than I get with my Geforce4 I have now...Personally I'm one of those who would like to have FS look as real as possible in every way and still have a good and smooth FPS - quite tricky to perform good landings in crosswinds at a busy airport when you have a FPS that drops below 10 now and then ;-)My biggest question really is which of the new chips, Nvidia's 6800 or ATI's X800 are better suited for MSFS? Also how big the difference is between the GT/Ultra-Pro/XT versions of the cards?Any input very much appreciated!
August 24, 200421 yr I must give Claudio 100% right. It took me over 1 month to tune my FS09 System, Texture, Mesh, Clouds, Obstacals, Water, CFG-Setup.But still the X800 XT ist a great card. KevinCWV777CA-Airways
August 24, 200421 yr You say yopu went from a 9600XT to the x800 Pro.Well I was wondering if you uninstalled the previous drivers before going on with the new card. If you hadn't then do it, uninstall the previous driver get a driver cleaner and wipe clear any reaminings. The problem is there are lot of different settings that are written into ini files for the 9600XT which could complicate matters for the x800 so these need to be wiped and these files that contain settings info need to be written from scratch.Registry keys also will contain old info which could possibly be very bad when making a move to a new card. So a driver uninstallation is necessary.to get a driver clears: http://www.driverheaven.net/cleaner

X800 Pro and G6800GT are compared in many games including FS2004. Based on this review I picked X800 Pro (primarily due to better water reflections and slighly better AA) but you may have a different opinion.Michael J.http://www.reality-xp.com/community/nr/rsc/rxp-higher.jpg Michael J.
August 24, 200421 yr Apparently the 6800 performs much better than the X800 in FS2004.Armen L Cholakianwww.veryquiet.com Armen L CholakianPMDG Sound Engineer
